A native of Southern California, Christine Pope has been writing stories ever since she commandeered her family’s Smith-Corona typewriter back in the sixth grade. Many reams of dead trees later, she’s happy to announce that her debut novel, Fringe Benefits, was published by Pink Petal Books on April 8, 2010. Her short fiction has appeared in Astonishing Adventures, Luna Station Quarterly, and the new journal of dark fiction, Dark Valentine. Her paranormal novella, Playing With Fire, was released on August 5, 2010.
While Fringe Benefits is a straight contemporary romance, she writes in a variety of genres, including paranormal romance, fantasy, horror, science fiction, and historical romance. She blames this on being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects, which could also account for the size of her shoe collection.
After spending many years in the magazine publishing industry, she now works as a freelance editor in addition to writing fiction. She lives with her husband and an explosively fluffy Pomeranian mix. Her house is pink, but don’t hold that against her.
As well written as every other Christine Pope book, but a bit disappointing to me. This is the latest in the Witches series, and historical. I guess I didn't really care enough about Jeremiah to worry about his HEA. And I didn't think this was a very satisfying way to outwit the curse.
One of the more charming love stories within this series. The characters are well developed and the reader can imagine the affairs of the heart with the lead people.
The Arrangement (The Witches of Cleopatra Hill) Book 10
Lorena Simms is a beautiful woman, a widow, wealthy and on her way by train from New York to San Francisco, CA. She had homes in New York and San Francisco, which she had shared with her late husband. The train was stopping in Flagstaff, Arizona for a little sight seeing. It had been 5 lonely and long years since her husbands death in a carriage accident. Lorena, herself, had been seriously injured, but had recovered. She headed toward the hotel she was to stay at, along with her personal maid. Jeremiah Wilcox, a warlock, was going about his normal day and noticed the train pull in. He also watched as Lorena Simms disembarked from the train. From this point onward, this story brings the lives of these two lonely souls together in a strange, carefully planned and a loving relationship. Jeremiah has a long history of sadness with loosing wives, 4 to be exact, as well as two unborn children. The "curse" put upon him by his second wife, prevented any future relationships for him. Lorena still grieved for her dead husband, but meeting Jeremiah brought feelings back to her that she hadn't felt since his death. This beautiful story tells of their courtship, sharing of secrets, struggles to keep the curse at bay and their new found love for one another. I cried at the end and not ashamed to say so. An amazing love story by Christine Pope!! A 5 star for sure. Kathy Barber Doyle - 2/15/2019
This novel captivated me from the beginning, and right through till the end. You could understand in why they sort this type of arrangement, however captivating is the only word, that I could use to describe the resolution they took. Unfortunately I don't see any other way, they can conclude to finish the novel. Pity!
I have read the entire series and enjoyed reading them all. The only area I did not like is I felt they had way too much and too vividly described rounds of sex. The 1st book did not start off that way and I gave it a 5 star rating These others really only deserved a 4 star rating b/c of the sexual content. That is just my opinion.
Jeremiah Wilcox believes he is destined to forever be alone. After his first wife died in childbirth, every woman he has married since barely makes it out of the first year of marriage before succumbing to illness or accident!!! But when he meets a newcomer to town, a widow herself, he feels that he may just have another chance at love!
This is a different kind of HEA! It was truly novel how our couple attempt to elude, deceive and break the curse. Whilst not a HEA that most would see coming, I saw that they decided a little bit of happiness, frequently, over a longer time, beat out a full on HEA with a short date! Set back in 1800's this has a very atmospheric feel to it and was not the time period I would usually pick to read about.
Brilliant way to fill in any gaps in your knowledge of the Wilcox clans history.
This book is so lovely, yet tinged with such sadness. It's lovely that Jeremiah finally gets to meet someone who can give him the love he desperately needs, but sad that it takes such a situation a this to defeat the curse, especially as it means they never get to declare their love, or be together properly, even at the end. The story is beautifully written, with such care and attention paid to the characters, settings etc - as with all the books in this series - and it really draws you in and invests you in the outcome of Lorena and Jeremiah's story. I highly recommend this book, and all the rest of the series. They're great for both people who like stories with a magician theme running through them (though most have not a lot of magic actually happen), and to people who just like a good story, usually with a bit of adventure, romance, and sometimes some historical happenings. I've enjoyed every book in the series, reading them several times, and always look forward to the next!
