The first night I meet Gabe Forest, he gets me off using his fingers. The second night, he gets me off with his mouth. The third night, he gets me off with his…
He’s everything I detest.
A tattooed, arrogant, sexy, football player. The kind of guy who owns people on and off the field.
He has demons and secrets, and I’d have to be a fool to trust him.
After all, I’m a good girl. My dad’s a senator, and my life revolves around always being perfect, always doing the right thing.
But when Gabe kisses me, I’m helpless.
When he touches me, I burst into flames.
And when he tells me I’m a dirty girl and he owns my heart and soul…
I start to believe him.
PUMPED is a standalone sports romance with a guaranteed HEA
Harper James writes about love. Her debut young adult novel, Fight for her is available now on Amazon and Nook. Her second release, Break Me, is a new adult romance that can also now be purchased. Both of her books are part of stand alone series that will be contined soon!
She is also the wife of a rock star, the mother of the two greatest babies ever made, and a die hard Modern Family fan.
I am forever on the hunt for sport romance with an aggressive j/p H. I'm sad to say they are few and far between. So, I jump on anything even remotely promising. This one wasn't too shabby.
What I liked:
• h is a college student with her v-card. She's pretty likable - she's a senator's daughter
• H is a cocky confident college football stud 😍 - he is aggressive from the very start - he's got an unsavory past
• this is a fast burn - plenty of smexxy-times - he's sexually aggressive and dominant and she's natural submissive...so...😍
• the book isn't super long, but there are a few times the H is j/p - I would have liked much more, of course, but it's there
What I didn't like:
• this is a fast burn 😅 - they literally start getting down on THE DAY THEY MEET. I know lots of people will like that, but I need a bit of build up, especially since she's a v*rg*n. It seems a bit far fetched that a 20-yr old v would get completely naked with a dude they just met.
• there is very little character development or relationship development. I'm not even sure I know what either the h or the H look like, other than he's a big dude and she's petite. lol - They don't really spend much time together on page other than to smexx each other up
• I would have liked for some of the scenes to be played out a bit more. I felt like the author kind of pulled the H back at some crucial parts, when it would have been more satisfying to set him free to revel in all that testosterone 😉
• lots of belaboring consent 👀 I know some readers really want that, but it's annoying to me. 🙈🤷♀️ #justdoitalready
• no OW drama at all. Some OM drama, but I wish it had been used to create more drama and j/p scenes than it actually did #imadramahoooaar
• little to no angst - nada. zilch. zero. 😕
• there were some noticeable typos
Bottom Line: if you like a quick fast burn college sport romance with an aggressive dominant football player and a v*rg*n h, this will be fun for you. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Loved Gabe! 😘😍 Lucy was annoying up until she FINALLY stood up for herself. 😁😁 The smut was mediocre and for the first time in a LONG time I continued to read a book for the relationship and not the smut! 😩😩 This shocked me so much. 🤯🤯 The ending was amazing! 🤩🤩
I purchased this book because I love a good NA College sports star romance, the cover hit all my hell yes buttons, and I was intrigued by the blurb. Sadly, that is where my love for this book ended. Where to start... firstly this is NOT a New Adult college romance, it is not even a contemporary romance. To me, it is erotic fiction through and through. For the length of the book (I'll come back to that in a moment) there were far too many explicit sex scenes and I found myself skimming over them. Secondly, I felt seriously confused. There was no romantic build-up between the H and h, no slow building attraction, no easing into a sexual relationship. When they did start discovering each other's bodies Gabe was far too Alpha, by that I mean all I felt was a domineering man that wasn't caring for his partner. And this pretty much felt the same throughout the story. At no point did I really feel the love he apparently had for her, or her him. She seemed more hung up on his looks and body than anything else. I couldn't connect with Lucy and Gabe at all. Editing. Or lack thereof. It was evident throughout that the book hadn't been edited or proofread professionally, it was littered with typos and grammar issues. I can usually tolerate this when it is a handful, but when there is something on virtually every page, I tend to lose patience fast. And don't get me started on the book length. Don't be fooled. It states it's a 300 ish page novel. It is half of that. I battled to 50% expecting there to be so much more to the story and then BAM; I'm hit with an epilogue that transports up forward an unspecified length of time with no explanation of how the characters got there. The rest of the 'book' is another short that I didn't bother even looking at. I have to admit adding unnecessary shorts to the end of books is one of my biggest pet peeves. I apologise to the author for my negative feedback and hope it is taken as the constructive criticism it is intended. I believe there could have been so much more potential with this story and these characters. I can't recommend this book. I'm sorry.
I enjoyed the storyline and the characters were well written. Gabe's character had many layers and it didn't take Lucy long to strip them all away...in more ways than one. As soon as you start reading this book you quickly get a sense of the chemistry between the two of them and then it only gets better from there! I would have liked to read Gabe's POV to get his perspective on Lucy, but either way it was a nice read with some steamy scenes that won't disappoint and a HEA.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review that was previously posted on another website on December 13, 2016.
First book by this author and I'm presently surprised! Going to go back and read her other books. HOT READ HOT!!! The senators daughter thought she has these two dorm rooms all to herself but finds out that this football player also got assigned this room. The Hero Gabe is hot and dirty, and he goes after Lucy right away, she has hang ups with trying to please her father and parents I really liked it when she stands up for her man at the end.
This was a really good short book. If you are looking for a sports romance with a virgin heroine and dirty talking alpha male this is the book for you.
REALLY REALLY these could be in paper back i reread all the time and for some reason it keeps disapearing out of my library ive repurchased this and the the other 2 like three times each
I loved this quick read! So cute with a decent story line within it.. Gabe is 🔥 and I love how Lucy stands up to him I'll be reading more Harper James from now on 😍
Big missed opportunity here. First of all, Amazon says it is 300 pages, it's more like 150 pp if that. If I had bought it I would be pissed, but as I read it through Kindle Unlimited, I just view it as a missed opp for the author to make something really good. As it is, I consider it simply porn. Hot and steamy for sure, but it had a shot at being much more. It had all the makings of a good story, sexy hero, prim but very shrewd heroine, makings of a good scandal, etc. However, it was all rushed. And I mean rushed. The author went right, and I mean right, into the sex in a very unbelievable way. There was no tension or buildup, which would really have added to the story. Also there were some possibilities for some very good supporting characters later in the book -- Finn, Jacob, Sasha -- but they all got 3 sentences as the author rushed to finish. I literally thought I accidentally skipped to the end of the book. Reading along happily and suddenly "Epilogue." It was like entering the twilight zone. Who do I recommend this to? Someone who like "sports star porn" with a sex slave edge, but nothing more than that.
Great read. I love reading sports romance books. Lucy was the Senator s daughter always did what was expected of her. She goes back into her dorm room to find a guy holding a pair of her panties .They argue over the dorm room to find out he really has been assigned there. She moves into the other room, he all move out when the football dorms are ready. They talk and start having sex behind everyone s back. I admire Lucy for standing up for Gabe. Gabe had a hard life growing up and has a chan e to change that. Lucy just has to make him believe that. The sex was great and made me wish my hubby was around.. Cant wait to read more by this author.
I volunteered to review an ARC in order to provide an honest review. I have to say that I absolutely LOVE a strong female lead. Especially when she makes her own weaknesses and vulnerabilities evident in the story. Lucy and Gabe came from such starkly different backgrounds and what they found with each other was so genuine. I love how Lucy schooled her dad and the others. Great book!
Good book. I liked the characters. I would've like a little more romance from Gabe. I didn't feel the love from him until the end. I finished it quickly. Enjoyed it!
