What happens when a curvy girl wanders into bear country...

Riker Brolin has always been the responsible one of his brothers. Whether it's watching out for the entire, tiny town of Bear Canyon or supervising the annual Brawl where bear shifters from all over trek to his mountain, he does it all without complaint. Well, maybe a complaint here or there, especially when a curvy human woman somehow wanders into Bear Canyon, drawing the attention of every hungry bear shifter in the vicinity, including himself.

Ana Johnson is having a rough week. While hiking for help after being abandoned in the mountains, she stumbles upon a strange camp and finds herself plunged into a world where men can shift into larger-than-life predators and curvy women like her just happen to be prey. All that stands between Ana and a bunch of hungry bears is a tall, rugged man with storm-gray eyes and a wall around his heart that Ana would definitely like to scale.

Riker knows his bear wants the curvy redhead with a kind smile for a mate, even as he vows to strictly protect her until she can leave. But Ana is determined to work her way into his heart and his arms, and after a few steamy encounters, he almost considers having a life for himself that he never imagined. But how could he ever expose someone as wonderful as Ana to the dark secrets that lurk in Bear Canyon?

Trapped in Bear Canyon is a brand new series starring stubborn bear brothers who own a tiny mountain town.  Each book contains heart-pounding action, sexy scenes with tons of heat, and a satisfying ending that won't leave you hanging.

I LOVE this writer but this book wasn't one of my favorites. It had a generic feel to it. Perhaps it's just me. It just had a cliché feel to it and was overly predictable. In this read, unlike the others this author has written, I didn't feel a connection to the characters. Perhaps that's why this one was an overall miss for me. I will still read her future work, just not this particular series.

A toss up between a 3 and a 4 I think. So maybe 3.5.

I was really digging the beginning! I started off liking everyone. But then it kind of went downhill for me. After getting to know about Ana, I just didn't end up clicking with her. She honestly kind of annoyed me sometimes. She actually REALLY got to me towards the end. Ugh, if I could slap sense into anyone it would be her. It just made no sense why she would think Riker cheated on her when there weren't any other females around for him to cheat on her with. Like I just don't get it. Otherwise I really enjoyed the premise and Riker's brothers! Really loved them and look forward to reading their stories!

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

The Brolin brothers, Riker, Rock and Ryland. Three sexy, amazing and messed up males, bear shifters, dealing with a legacy passed down from generation to generation in the form of a tiny town, and a week long bear brawl. In years gone by, the week long brawl gave bear shifters of the mountain and surrounding area bragging rights for dominance on the mountain. Modern day brawls are a competition, oh, the best bear still wants to win but now it’s bragging rights for the year and a hefty amount of prize money. The yearly brawl has begun, the canyon is shut off to tourists and the bear shifters (and one wolf shifter) have control of this tiny spot of a town all to themselves… until one young woman wanders towards town and sees something she wasn’t supposed to see. Life is about to change, and who knows if that’s a good thing or not.

Ana is not having a good day. She’d discovered her boyfriend was indeed cheating on her as she suspected, and when confronted the jerk walked out of the forest leaving her abandoned behind at their campsite. She knows there is a small town nearby, so she’s hiking to get to somewhere that her friends can come and pick her up and go home to rail against fate and jerks. On the way she comes across what she believes is an outdoor illegal animal cage fight… ah, no. And she is now in a ton of trouble.

Sheltered By The Bear brings us Riker, the eldest brother’s story in the first of the Trapped In Bear Canyon series. If you’ve followed Terry Bolryder’s stories before you may find this one to be a bit gritter, darker and, if possible, even more intense. These brothers suffered horrifically at the hands of their physically abusive father. While he may be gone, the effects of the abuse remain long after. None of them believe they have the ability to be a good mate to any woman, the scars run deep and it would be a very brave woman to take any of them on. While Rock and Ryland have moved off the mountain out into that real world, Riker remains behind tending the small town, it’s people and the tradition of the brawl. Riker never expected to actually find his mate, yet here she stood before him spitting fire from her eyes and standing up to him bravely, if foolishly.

Ana is a strong character. While it may look at first as if she’s a pushover, don’t let first impressions fool you. In her own way, she’s also been beaten down by a situation, one person and she’s coming out of that into something more her natural self. Rock and Ryland are a major part of Ana and Riker’s romance. This is a tight knit band of brothers, and even if it doesn’t always seem like it, they do have each other’s backs. Ana has a lot to take in, she’s been given a huge information dump in even beginning to accept that shifters are real. She’ll be placed into some tense and dangerous situations, fall in love with a man who turns into a bear and trust him to not break her heart… which of course he does through some serious miscommunication between the BOTH of them. Never assume. Haven’t we realized that by now? *shakes head*

This story is an excellent beginning to the series, and I wold highly recommend this one for any Shifter Romance reader who enjoys a more intense, slighter darker feel to a story than usual. I am definitely looking forward to the next two books in this series.

I read this story through my Kindle Unlimited subscription. For ten dollars a month you get access to thousands of really great stories across all genre, and the authors get paid for you reading the story through to the 100% mark. It’s a win-win. Probably the best 10 bucks I spend a month.

Loved it!

Ana and Riker's story was HOT and I had a hard time putting it down to even sleep. Ana was dumped into Riker's world by a jerk, but it was the best thing that could've happened for both of them. They had their ups and downs but that's to be expected even for humans let alone an alpha shifter male and a human female. Terry, you are the queen of the shifter books, and anyone that has read your books would agree. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about shifters.

This is an OK bear shifter romance and start to the Trapped in Bear Canyon series. I didn't like it as much as I've liked most of Terry's later series, mostly because I had some issues with the couple. It gets 3 stars from me.

Riker was OK, but he was so damaged, and sure that he could never be "good enough" for Ana. He tried to resist her for a while, then suddenly decided to go for their relationship. He even agreed to her demand that they take it slow, when he knew that it would hurt him if she left. His complete change from fighting a mate relationship to being all in was just too sudden for me. In reality, someone as damaged as Riker would probably need a lot of counseling before he could ever be ready to take a mate.

Ana was hard to like. I get that she had just been cheated on and dumped by her Ex, but it was unfair of her to assume that all men, including Riker, would treat her just as badly. Then to automatically make the wrong assumption about him, without confirming it, was just too much. I get that Riker let her get away with that because she was his mate, but she should have had to grovel for his forgiveness. Instead, he asked her for forgiveness for something that was partially her fault.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Me, I'm not a camper. Poor Ana, she should have passed as well. Maybe not! Her human boyfriend took her on a “special outing” and ended up dumping her in the mountains. Literally. That's right, the jerk of a guy just left her there. He'd been cheating and she paid the price. That was just the beginning. She was about to be taken by some huge guys when an even bigger one saved her? At least she thought he did.

So goes the meeting of Riker and Ana. She has ended up in the middle of a bear jamboree—of the fighting kind. A bunch of bear shifters get-together once a year to battle it out until the final winner. He gets the jackpot. Since humans aren't supposed to know about them, the mountain is closed off until they end. What are they gonna do with Ana? Riker is in charge with his two brothers who don't live on the mountain or run the small town. They live in “the real world.”

She is a strong lady, heart hurting, but strong and comes to the aid of a shifter after a fight becomes more brutal than expected. She proves herself useful, the brothers all like her, Riker most of all. He tries to resist as does she. He doesn't need another complication and she doesn't need another man in her life. However, when the mate calls beckons, fighting is useless. Enjoy this story of pain, strength, growth, family honor and loyalty, lots of steam, and of course, love.

Another winner from Ms. Bolryder who never disappoints. I'm hoping for a story for the brothers too. I strongly recommend.

Riker is a bear shifter who lives in a dying mountain town. Every year his family holds a week-long brawl where shifters mostly bears come and fight each other for the cash prize. Riker and his brothers are the hosts and judges. This year on the first day of the Brawl, Ana a human stumbles across their fighting ring. Riker has to protect her from all the aggressive bears.
Ana was camping in the woods with her boyfriend and finds out he has been cheating on her. Her now ex abandons her in the woods where she is wandering lost with no working phone to call for help. She is happy when she hears voices but is shocked when she sees bears fighting and a man turn into a bear.
Riker is developing feelings for Ana but he is afraid to express them since he feels stuck in town and he knows there is nothing else there for Ana. Ana has strong feelings for Riker but she is afraid she is on the rebound. She is also determined that she will no longer forgo her dreams for a relationship.
I enjoyed the characters in this story especially the brothers. I can't wait for their turn. This is a sweet love story where the characters have to overcome their pasts and have hope for the future. I received a copy of this story and this is my honest review.

A beautiful and sweet story for everyone who loves shifter.
The story about Riker and Ana was really great and I enjoyed reading it until the end.

SPOYLER!!

Riker the tall bear shifter, who scarficed but everything to protect bis younger brothers, has found bis mate in the curvy Ana, who was abandoned by her (now) exboyfriend in the woods and just had to stumble on the Brawl that the Brolin brothers run.
Together they have to decide if they can give their hearts ho one another or risk destroying them forever.
It is a very sweet story with its ups and downs, that make it just perfect, nice characters and a happy ever after.

The only thing that bothered me was that the shifter could talk in their animal form. I mean real bears only 'roar' and 'growl' so why should it be different for shifters?

This was my first book by Terry Bolryder and I'm really looking forward to reading the story's of Rock and Ryland, inclusive other story's from Terry. (I grew to like Francis too, so i hope he gets gis own story)

Disclaimer: This is an Adult paranormal romance (aka it contains graphic sex scenes).

This was an enjoyable read. It felt like it had elements of one of my favorite fairy tales. You have the heroine who finds herself stuck with a closed off "beast" of a man with issues he won't speak of. She befriends those around her and also falls in love while helping to open up her "captor". What's different is that she knows something is odd about how quickly things move and really thinks about the consequences. I didn't give it a better rating because it felt slow and almost like it dragged a couple times. Also, I felt like there could be a little more character development so I'd connect with them more. I liked Ana well enough but I didn't really get to know or understand her.

I plan to continue to read other novels by this author.

I really enjoy Terry Bolryder books (and I especially love her dragon shifters). The Brolin brothers are fantastic and unique individuals. Riker is the responsible one that puts everyone's happiness over his. Ana has sacrificed for the happiness of her low-life boyfriend. Fate brings these two together and mixes in a bunch of bear brawlers and a wolf or two to make things interesting. Riker's two brothers (Rock and Ryland) are great support characters and add a little more action to the story. The story flows smoothly and was thoroughly entertaining. I cannot wait until Rock and Ryland get their stories.

I was given an advanced copy by the author and voluntarily reviewed this book.

Riker Brolin, eldest of the bear-shifter Brolin brothers and long-time resident of Bear Canyon, runs a small mountain town and the annual Brawl competition which brings shifters from all over to compete for money and bragging rights.

Dumped by her boyfriend and stranded in the woods, Ana is forced to hike to the nearest town for a phone. Stumbling onto the Brawl and being confronted by strange men who seem intent to do harm, Ana quickly turns to flee only to run right into Riker, who becomes her protector.

Riker knows Ana is his mate, but as hard as he fights the attraction, she pushes forward -
determined to get her bear.

I loved this story

This book caught my eye because it is a shifter romance. And I have read other books by this author. Ana and Riker had me in a turmoil one minute they were happy and the next they were upset with each other. I loved how Ms. Bolryder have a detailed background on the brothers and the abuse they suffered. Can a person heal from that kind of trauma? The answer is yes with the right person to love and that loves them back. Come find out what is lurking up in Bear Canyon

Ana is dumbed by her boyfriend in the middle of the woods and stumbles upon a bunch of bear shifters.

So Ana and Riker both suck. They are quick to say how much they love each other, after a few days, but they aren't willing to compromise at all. Oh and Ana just jumping to the conclusion that Riker cheated on her even though she herself said that she was almost literally the only female around. Just two ridiculous people who refuse to talk or make decisions....but they just love each other so much.

An enjoyable read, where you will fall in love with all the Brolin brothers and their emotional scars.

I thought that the way Ana fell instantly in love with someone after recently being dumped and swearing off men was annoying, but that's to be expected with bear shifter books.

I liked the way she didn't want to straight away stay and get her head straight, although her assuming the worst of Riker was not her finest moment.

Will still read the rest as the other characters were nicely fleshed out.

I've read a few of her other books, the ones about the dragons, and this one just wasn't as good...

I don't know if it's the fact that they can talk while in their animal form that felt slightly odd or tacky. Or if the conflict between the two characters seemed over the top. Basically I didn't think the climax in this book was a true climax. Maybe if a different plot or obstacle was given it would have been a better book.

Sheltered by the Bear

When ana gets dumped by her boyfriend and left alone in a closed off area in the canyon she's pissed. When she stumbles along and sees a brawl with a man and a bear she tried to leave, but there men stop her. Riker sees a human women in an all shifted area, he rescues her. Ana wants to leave but she can't until they open up the area after the brawling. Can Ana last that long. Will Riker do what he can to protect her and have her as his mate? Great read.

Bear Brawl!

Kindle Unlimited Purchase
By Terry Bolryder
Ana is lost in the woods when her boyfriend leaves her. When she walks upon the Bear Brawl.
Riker and his brothers are in charge of the Bear Brawl every year. Riker lives in their hometown while his brothers went out and found their lives. The brothers had it rough growing up with an abusive father. And due to this the book as triggers. I really enjoyed this book and I think you will too

I enjoy this authors work. I really appreciate the way the story draws me in. The characters are interesting and there is enough sexy hot guys. I do wish the heroine wasn't so caught up on her own body issues, it distracted from the story. We live in a world of difference, healthy is what we need to stress not size.

I'm pretty sure I have read something like this before: bear shifter series, 3 books on each brother, last one on a friend, first brother falls for a human, second for his childhood friend, third for an outsider who has a different motive, all 3 brothers conflicted, one a murderer who keeps it a secret...
Could be from the same writer. If so: please try something more original

Yet another promising series begins from an amazing author! I love everything I read by Terry and can't wait for the next book in the series. This was a great book with some unexpected twists and turns and some misunderstandings that all work out in the end for a great story.

Really good read. What is sexier than a bear shifter? Hot, hot, hot. But, warning, the stories in this series are around childhood abuse. For those who who find that hard to read, just want to give you a heads up. However, I thought the issue was addressed respectfully.
