Set in Kashmir, and dealing essentially with the spiritual quest, The Mountain of Shiva is not only a good story but has profound undertones which would be of great interest to the discerning reader. In spelling out Adi Sankara's philosophy as expressed in his works, a dialogue is introduced in the novel between a preceptor and an aspirant -- "What is it that you seek?" "I seek to achieve the state where all sorrow and strife cease and where shines the eternal light of bliss and certitude." "You seek well. You seek what is your birthright," answers the master.
I like the writing style but the story is predictable. It’s a classic love triangle, we have seen in the movies or read in the books before. If only the story was a little bit more innovative, I would have enjoyed this book more.
