The Sauvage Domicile

Rate this book
The Revolution just entered the wild. Q’s escape from the Vrai Domicile was supposed to be the final spark to ignite the people. But that spark was doused by a sacrifice that threatens to destroy her. Now Q must forge a new path. Led deep into the woods to find the elusive Transients, she must not only protect those who escaped the Sixth Domicile with her, but also align with Transients who have their own plans of warfare. And their war calls for more death and destruction than Q ever thought possible. As Q unites both Transient and Domicilian, she quickly realizes that even in the wilderness, no one is free. They must take the fight back to the Domicile. But this war brings with it more secrets, heartbreaking betrayals, and even worse sacrifices, as Q fights to protect her people from Elders who always seem to be one step ahead. The face of the Revolution has changed. Q has entered the sauvage – a place she isn’t sure she can survive. Book 3 in the Readers' Favorite Domicile Series by Courtney Ruggles.

Thankfully picking back up from where we left off at the end of the Vrai Domicile, we rejoin Q and the others as they make good their dramatic escape from the sixth, although tragedy has struck and not all of the group make it to the forest beyond. Q and U are initially split off from the others forcing their bond to strengthen and when Q’s life is again in danger, B is the one to help bring her to the others albeit in an unexpected way. An unlikely band of escapees has gathered, including some who Q would never have thought to have supported her cause. They must learn to work together in order to explore the wilderness, the Sauvage, and move forward with the quest to bring everyone.

Q settles uneasily into her role as poster girl for the revolution, beset by the grief of the lives lost indirectly from her actions she struggles to deal with the new emotions freedom affords her, including the experience of platonic love. However, she finds herself riddled with self doubt and guilt, with little in the way of support from her fellow escapees who struggle to understand her actions and her love for someone other than B. Respite is at hand though in the form of Chrysanthe, a Transient girl and all round free spirit who helps Q embrace the new life and freedoms.

The group are still haunted and hunted by the domiciles, reminders of their cruelty litter the path to the Transient stronghold and despite freeing themselves of the means to be tracked they still find themselves battling the Guerriers whilst seemingly far from their radar.

Where there was once great hope we are then sucker punched by betrayal on the grandest scale and truths from the Vrai Domicile are revealed in a way that shakes both you as a reader and also Q to the core. Q’s fate seems sealed but when she receives help from the most unlikely source she is struck by an epiphany, which can only mean that heading into book 4 we are dealing with a very different girl who is very clearly set on her path.

This series continues to grow and mature alongside of Q, I was utterly captivated by the writing of the emotions wrought upon her and the feelings brought about by that. This remains one of my most highly rated series and the plot twists and revelations coupled with some phenomenal writing makes this another 5* read for me.

Courtney Ruggles’ “Sauvage Domicile” felt like “Hunger Games” meets “Divergent” meets “The Bourne Conspiracy”. It was a thrilling read full of danger for the main character, Q437B, and those who escaped with her. Lies are exposed and truths learned in this third book in the series.

I had moments when I just wanted to put the book down and scream ‘why’. The plot was unfolding faster than I wanted it to. To make matters worse, it veered onto a different track that I was unprepared for. By the end of the book, however, Ruggles turns things on its ear, literally, one more time. If you’re patient and stick with it until the end, you will be rewarded. I was able to breathe a huge sigh of relief by the final chapter.

Ruggles continues to craft a well-written tale with characters that you will feel for (the reason why I became upset). The story is riveting and does make a reader think. The Elders did their best to create micro-worlds where people don’t have to overexert themselves making choices. They took care of all the decision making for those who lived within each domicile—what to wear, where to live, what to eat, who to marry, and what job to do. Only thing Domicilians had to do was exist. Q and her comrades are an example of what happens when free thinking is taken away. Sometimes people want more. Once they get a taste, they’ll do whatever it takes to keep it.

I highly recommend the “Sauvage Domicile”, and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Q has escaped the Vrai/6th Domicile at an incredible loss. Both her grandmother and B were killed. Now, she is with the other escapees running for their lives in the sauvage and trying to find the Transients. While she tries to unite the Transients with the Domicilians she must come to terms with who she has become and at what cost.

Ruggles’ third novel in The Domicile Series, The Sauvage Domicile, continues Q’s quest to free everyone from the Elders’ rule. This book does some serious world building outside the confines of the domiciles. It also introduces the people of the sauvage, the transients who live in fear of the Elders outside in the wild.

As much as I’ve liked this series from the start I must say that this book disappointed me. For the first 25 chapters out of 33 total everyone is walking in the woods. This part of the story is rather boring and I kept losing interest. The pace was slow and most of the story was Q wrestling with the actions she has taken to get where she is now. The last chapters were great! They were full of action and moved the story forward.

3 out of 5 stars.

I really loved this book! I love the story of Q & B. This is the 3rd book in the Domicile Series and I know at least 1 more book to come. What would happen if "for the good of mankind" We took everything away that makes us different or unique. And set up marriages at birth to try and make the best match. This is the Domicile world. I love the characters in this series. Some I want to slap and others I want to hug and tell them everything will be ok. I laughed out loud at parts, Then cried at others. The author kinda of broke my heart there for a couple of chapters. I couldn't believe what I read. Poor Q the journey she goes through in this book. The craziness of it all. I loved the new characters that we meet in this book. I can't believe that this is only the 3rd book the author has written. This is a fantastic series. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes dystopian books, With a great love story. Grab all 3 of these books you won't be disappointed. I need book 4 now.

Thank you Courtney Ruggles and Elephante Publishing for providing a copy for review! As always, Courtney did not disappoint with this action packed, heartbreaking tale. There were so many twists and turns I had to pick my jaw up off the floor a few times. Q is finally becoming a strong independent woman outside the domicile, while trying to survive. B's death hit her hard. If it wasn't for U, she wouldn't have survived. I'm not going to spoil it, but the ending.... Oh my goodness. I never saw any of it coming!!! It's exciting, thrilling, heartbreaking, and enrapturing all in one. I couldn't put it down if I had wanted to, and I really didn't want to. This is a definite, MUST READ!!!! I cannot wait for the next one!!! Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of this!
