Rate this book
Set in New York, the novel follows the adventures of ex-con Dick, who comes round from what feels like quite a bender to find that there's a corpse in the boot of his Oldsmobile. It's Dot, recently his boss on the Breakout Program and also his on/off girlfriend. That's bad enough, but Dick honestly doesn't know whether he shot her himself or whether someone else did it. Meanwhile Dot's friend Lydia is wondering what the hell has happened to her co-conspirator - they've been embezzling the company and they're due to fly to Nassau with the proceeds shortly. And if Dick needed any more bad news, Dot's former squeeze, the very powerful, very clever, very dangerous Nestor Garcia, is headed for Manhattan, having decided he wants Dot back. He won't be at all happy to discover that the chances of a reconciliation are nil.

Who would have wanted to kill, Dot, recently his boss on the Breakout Program, who had been the first runner-up in the Miss Ohio beauty pageant? How did she end up in the trunk of Dick Miller's car, her former on again, off again, lover and ex-con? He had a lot to drink that night, and he doesn't remember if he had killed her or not.

Dot's friend Lydia, who with Dot had been embezzling from the company they worked at,Feldman Real Estate, and they were getting ready to fly to Nassau with the money they stole from the company. Some of it is already in the Bahamas waiting for them. Another one of Dot's former lover, the very powerful, very clever, very dangerous Nestor Garcia, who is on the run from the carte, .is headed to Manhattan. He wants Dot back in his life, and is also interested in Dot's keys to safe deposit boxes in the Bahamas with more than a million dollars tucked away inside.

How does Breeze fit into all this? She uses sex and deception as her primary weapons. Breeze plans to let Dot's lovers and business partners kill each other off. After they're all dead, Breeze thinks she will walk away with the money, but nothing happens as anyone has planned.

Like all Quinlan’s books, this kept my attention. It was captivating and exciting throughout. Highly recommended if you like a crime thriller.
