Crazy short, it's really just laying the foundation for the series. But I enjoyed it. It feels a little young, maybe New Adult, but I'm gonna give the first full book in the series a chance.
I found the cjinn (pretty much djinn in form of a cat) to be one I want to read most *lol*. Probably because a gorgeous vampire who used to be Apollo's servant to be a little too 'perfectly boring' as a plot for me.
BUT, the first novel of this story seems to have a mystery to it? SO maybe this is more of cozy-mystery with a side of paranormal territory; which can be interesting. Let's see how it goes.
This was a funny, short start to this series. Maddy has had enough of the rules and regulations in her condo and enough of her creepy ex-husband spying on her and decides on a whim, following a drunken night with her best friend, to buy a run down mansion on the island of Bedlam. It needs a lot of work doing to it, but she feels she needs a project just like this to take her mind off things, but there's more to this house than just crumbling walls and peeling paint!
A mysterious man living in the basement is just the start, a man who Maddy can't stop fantasising about! Has he bewitched her somehow? He shouldn't be able to, yet Maddy can't help but feel a connection to him from her past but she cannot quite place him just yet!
I think this series has the potential to be hilarious and romantic at the same time. Love the idea of a cjinn in cat form - how naughty is Bubba going to get?
A nice little prequel story for a new series starting new year by Galenorn. I'm looking forward to reading it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Book synopsis: When fun-loving witch Maddy Gallowglass moves to Bedlam to restore an old mansion and turn it into a magical bed-and-breakfast, the last thing she expects is to meet her match in the gorgeous vampire Aegis, a former servant of Apollo. The prequel story to the Bewitching Bedlam Series
I really enjoyed this short story. Maddy is so fun and i feel as if i can come to connect with her in a special way, Maddys friend Sandy reminds me of a really close friend of mine. Bubba (OMG) i love this kitty and I can't wait to see what kinda trouble they get into.
Prequel to the Bewitching Bedlam series. maybe because it was too short I still don't know how to feel about the series. Will reserve judgement until I finish book 1
This book is an introduction to an entirely new world by Yasmine Galenorn which makes me very very eager
I’ve followed Yasmine Galenorn’s Sister of the Moon/Otherworld series (the name seems to change depending on who you ask) for a long time and I’ve always enjoyed her world setting, her characters and her stories. I haven’t enjoyed the massive massive bloat that besieges the series because there are so many ideas that it’s heard to fit them all in
So a new series entirely? That is promising.
And it is – promising pretty much sums up this book because it is an excellent introduction book. There isn’t so much a plot to this book as there is a general laying out the land. We meet Maudlin (Maddy) and learn a bit about who she is, what she does,
One thing I really like from the offset here I that we’re introduced to Maddy, he recent past and experiences, the fact she’s a witch, her friends and some nice world building around her but there’s no sense of specialness. That doesn’t mean she’s not an interesting character – far from it – she’s intriguing and strong and determined and has a really good relationship with her friends. And she can definitely become special and awesome – but because of what she does in the books, not because she’s come in to this book with the special heritage/magic/woo-woo of specialness. Neither tragic nor ordained for greatness.
She does have a past- but it’s a very mundane bad past. The simple but powerful story of a woman leaving an abusive and soul destroying relationship and beginning to find herself again. And that’s an excellent story – because having someone with a compelling history that doesn’t have to be epic, soul-shattering or so extreme is a wonderful thing to see. I want to see Maddy leave her ex in her dust and build herself an awesome future
I also really like her cjinn – a wishing cat with a mischievous streak. Who doesn’t like a mischievous cat?
Along with the cat, Maddy has some great friends and an obvious community that had her back. We don’t know much about them yet because it is an excellently brief introduction to the world, not overwhelming us with extraneous facts before we’ve had time to digest this.
A fabulous introduction to Yasmine Galenorn’s new Series, Bewitching Bedlam.
Maudlin (Maddy) is a sassy and spunky witch who is on the recovering side of a divorce. She has lost part of herself within a relationship gone sour and rules that make her apress part of who she is. A few margaritas, her best friend and a crazy idea is the just the thing Maddy needs!
Purchasing a mansion that has seen better days but has a charm that Maddy can't resist, it's just the restart she needs. Bewitching Bedlam B&B is born. However the first guest arrives well before check in time. The biggest danger and something completely irresistible all wrapped up in one.
Ms. Galenorn has me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what is going to happen with Maddy and Aegis. Blood Music perfectly sets up what I am sure to be a very interesting, exciting and sexy series. In the short prequel you get a wonderful feeling for the world building and a great dose of personality from Maddy, Sandy and Aegis. Intense chemistry, a lot of humor and a very sensual underlying feeling to the book have me very excited and very much anticipating the first full length book of the Bewitching Bedlam series.
This is a great introduction to the Bewitching Bedlam series. But actually, "The Wish Factor" should be read first. It tells how Maddie and her cjinn cat Bubba first met, hundreds of years ago. It gives a much greater understanding of the relationship between Maddie and Bubba. This book is about how the relationship with Aegis started. Was it brought about by Bubba's magic? Or was it fate? That is the question Maddie is asking herself by the end of the book. A romance between a witch and a vampire is unheard of. This romance will be developed much more fully in future books. Eventually, they will remember why they are mutually attracted and seem so familiar to each other. This is an engaging series, filled with lots of action, romance, friends looking out for each other, grave dangers, and several mysteries. I read this book after I read four of the books following in the series, and I can highly recommend the series. It’s short, but if you have Kindle Unlimited, it’s a great read for a bargain price. Otherwise, get “Bedlam Calling: A Bewitching Bedlam Anthology”
This series must be read in order. is the first book. I can't wait to read "Bewitching Bedlam"!I
Maddy has had enough of her old life. Too many rules and too much noise in the Condo she used to share with her abusive exhusband. And the fact he stops over sometimes is a real problem. Also she is tired of having to hide her Cijin cat Bubba. When her best friend Sandy suggests she move to a decrepit mansion in Bedlam it seems like Fate is finally throwing her a bone. Finding a Vampire laired up in her new digs... Not so much. What will she do with her unwanted guest? Will be try to eat her? Why did the cleaning crew skip the basement entirely? Is there no good help these days? One thing is for sure, no one and nothing is going to chase her from her new, beautiful house in the Supernatural community of Bedlam!
Centuries old witch Maddy Gallowglass, just out of a very failed marriage, makes a drunk decision, sells her condo in Seattle and moves into a dilapidated mansion in Bedlam. Bedlam, for those who can find it, is paranormal centre and home to vampires, satyrs and other magical creates. The witches are top of the heap. Maddy's no sooner moved in than she finds a vampire in residence - he's got a hideaway in her basement, and he claims he is the rightful owner. Not only that, he's ancient (thousands of year old) and insanely attractive. For some reason Aegis, a banished servant of Apollo, feels he knows her and the feeling is mutual. As the book moves on the reader gets an inkling of what that attraction is based on (it'll probably feature in a later book). Bubba, the cjinn (a cross between a djinn and a cat) is back – just don't make a wish when rubbing his tummy. “Blood Music” basically sets the scene for further books in the series. It's a fun read. 3 Stars.
This, the first book in the Bewitching Bedlam series, was a very quick read and a nice introduction to the series. I actually read the first full book before reading this novella, but I wanted to get the background after falling in love with the characters. I've been a fan of Yasmine's writing for many years and love that she's started this series. So far, it's a bit tamer than her other books, but I love the comedic edge, the magic, and the fun story line.
I first read this as part of the anthology Taming the Vampire. I loved this story. This author's writing flows so well. It's a very short story but has a lot in it. It's a great introduction to what I hope is a wonderful series. I love the characters and the world building. I'm hoping to find out more about Bubba the cat who is also a Cjinn. And what is being done with the mansion Maddy purchased will make for some interesting future stories.
When I began reading book 1 in this series, I felt like I had missed something. It didn’t read like a introduction novel, so I double checked that I had opened book one and not a subsequent title. After that I looked for a prequel, and found two including this one. Highly recommend beginning with the prequels, they are short, but give a little more backstory on the characters and the inn adding to the overall experience of reading.
A fantastic introduction to Yasmine Galenorn's new series, Bewitching Bedlam. Maddie Gallowglass has lost herself and a move closer to her friend Sandy seems like the answer. Maddie moves into an old mansion to renovate it, but things don't go as planned. I'm really looking forward to this series.
Maddy moves to Bedlam to get away from her still controlling ex. She buys a house and plans to turn it into a bed and breakfast. Of course she didn't know she had a vampire squatter who also happens to be a famous cursed former servant of Apollo.
This was ok. I'm just not into the whole musician thing, I find those scenes incredibly awkward to read.
I love the backstory for the vampire and the hinted common thread. Her discovery of Aegis living in her house was quite hilarious. Service businesses seem to suck around her area. Definitely a great start to a captivating series. I look forward to reading more.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading about how Maddy & Aegis met! I don’t know if I would have enjoyed it as much if I had read it in the proper order or in the order that I read it in. But it filled in a lot of gaps that were very enlightening! Highly recommend!
As with all of the other books I have read by Yasmin this one gets you hooked and asking for more without the let down that the book has ended, looking forward to this series
This was such a fun/sexy way to start the series! Since it's a prequel I read it first and I'm already in love with Maddy and Aegis! The forbidden romance and promise of secrets to be discovered draws you in and makes you want to sit down and finish the whole series.
Wow this series is going to be a must read. I couldn't put this book down. Wonderful characters that follow through out the series and great plot twists. I highly recommend this series
I forgot how much I love Galenorn's writing. This was a fast, fun, sexy read into the new world she has created and I can't wait to fall into it and never leave!
