Pete on Repeat

Rate this book
Samantha Jo Cartwright and Peter Warrick were once an item. And then... they weren't. Finding Pete lip-locked with the town hottie pretty much put an end to things. When her mom insists she come home for Christmas, all Sam can think about is the possibility of running into Pete and opening wounds that are still festering.
But, hey, it's Christmas, right? And she wants to see her family. Her mother insists things have changed...Peter and Tiffany aren't together. In a moment of weakness, she agrees to make the trip. Repeating past mistakes is something that doesn't interest Sam, but the fates have other ideas.

I received this from Insta-Freebie in exchange for subscribing to A. E. Easterlin's newsletter. I chose it from a list of items being offered in the same manner because I liked the cover. (What's that saying... Never judge a book...)

Anyway... The cover notes it is a short story; short being the operative word. This is about 10 e-pages long and really not much of a story. Samantha left town two years ago after seeing her fiance kissing another woman a week before their wedding. She is "guilted" into coming home for Christmas by her mother and sister, but wants to avoid Pete, her ex. That doesn't happen.

As mentioned the story is short. However, I do have to say that the writing is enough to make me look at other works by the author. In a few short paragraphs, we get a glimpse of what might have been a good novella. I wish there had been more to it and am glad it was "free."

Wow! A really short story! Not even a chapter!
Samantha ran from her fiancé, thinking he was cheating on her when he wasn't. Her mother convinces her to come home for Christmas and Pete is there to pick her up from the airport.
He declares he still loves her and he is not letting her go again.

This is a very short story, but it resonates with me. It is a story of how true love may triumph even with excommunications and time separating the two lovers.

This sounded like it would be a really interesting story, but I was greatly disappointed. I didn’t connect or warm to the characters at all, so it was hard to even care what happened to them.
