When Deep Sleep Falls

Kara Fisher has an uncanny ability to communicate with the dead. Unsure of where her special power comes from, she sets out to uncover the truth about her past, which her mother has never revealed. She teams up with another psychic, Sauscha Wilkins, who helps her unearth her family secrets. Together they search for answers, starting with her father, who she knows nothing about, not even his name. Just bringing him up causes her mother to tremble.
Thinking they have a special gift to help others, they discover it’s actually no gift at all. Along the way, they learn their supernatural insight is powered by evil. They learn it’s not the deceased they’ve been conversing with, but dark entities who are out to control them, and one in particular is following them. She and Sauscha turn the tables and start spying on this entity through astral projection in an attempt to learn his identity.
As Kara searches for the truth, she uncovers horrific secrets concerning the past with her mysterious father. She discovers he is searching for her. While trying to piece her life together, this unknown entity reveals his shocking identity along with revelations about their future … causing them to make unthinkable decisions.

The plot seemed good at first, even though it's rather unlikely. But it all went pear-shaped two thirds of the way in.
Also, a lot of whether you enjoy this book or not depends on whether you like the two leading characters. I didn't.

Don't Bother , Just Set Up For Next Book
This isn't really a stand alone story as much as a set up for the next book , ( & the next book ..). The premise undergoes a big change in the last few chapters that totally lost me. Lots of promise that didn't pan out.

I read this book in only a few days. I couldn't stop once I started it. There's too much suspense to be able to put it down. It leaves you constantly wanting to know what happens next. That's what I'm looking for in a good thriller. I don't want to be bored in certain places. This book was very intriguing and has a lot of truth in it when it comes to mediums and psychics, which makes it all the more intriguing. I know a lot about the paranormal, and this book is spot on!!
I think what I loved the most is occasionally there will be a chapter which allows a mysterious “entity” to have a voice who adds much intrigue to the story. These chapters were quite scary to me and kept me guessing until it was finally revealed who this mysterious entity is.
Though kept short and to the point, they give the reader insight into how dangerous he
really is. It added to the suspense making it like nothing else I’ve read.
If you’re looking for a story like no other, involving a lot of twists and suspense, this book is the one for you!!!

I loved this story! There was one twist and turn after another, which is exactly the kind of thriller I'm looking for. It is NOT a set up for another book, as someone mentioned in their review. It is a stand-alone book with a clever ending that "seals" the story.
The story is about two mediums (Kara and Sauscha) who are searching for answers to Kara's past in an attempt to find out where her ability came from. It is not a Christian book, nor are there religious undertones, but the author does touch briefly on religion and mediums/psychics, meaning satan, hell, God, heaven, etc... which made the story that more exciting for me! It demonstrates a lot of knowledge on the subject by the author, which is what I like in a good fiction book. I want the author to know what they're writing about.
If you're into the paranormal/mediums/psychics and a good psychological thriller that will keep your on the edge of your seat then you will not be disappointed in this book!! I highly recommend!

Riveting!!! This is the first book I’ve read by Karyn Masters, I read it in two days because it is impossible to put down. From the beginning, I was entranced wanting to know what perils awaited Kara and Sauscha, and was absolutely stunned by the plot twist at the end. The intrigue that develops as the storyline progresses commands your attention and compels you to keep reading as you try to imagine what the outcome could be. The author builds suspense wonderfully and creates loveable characters; not only do I recommend her work, I am looking forward to future works from her, as well.

Karyn Masters you are a wonderful story teller! I haven't read a book in a long time. I could not put this one down. I was intrigued the entire time. I grew up in San Antonio and I love all your references in this book. I have never read a book like this one. It had my attention from the very start until the very last page. l think there needs to be a sequel because you left me wanting more. This book will not disappoint. Now I am off to read her newest book The Girl Inside!

This is the third book I've read of Karyn's and she never ceases to amaze me!! She is a phenomenal writer!!! When Deep Sleep Falls was full of suspense like a movie being played out in my head!! A page turner, you will not want to put down!! When I had to, it lingered with me until I picked it up again!!! I screamed several times at the twists- What?!! The characters seemed true to life and I had to keep telling myself, this is fiction lol! As a Christian I wanted it to be true because I loved the overall stand against evil. I highly recommend this book to even the most skeptical critical reader!! You WILL love it!!

A good description of this book would be a psychological thriller with a paranormal twist. The characters are real to life and very likeable. Their southern disposition jumps off the page, which I really enjoyed. I also liked how detailed the paranormal stuff was. For instance, the two main characters both work as medium/psychics and it's all very true-to-life. It's what one would expect if they went to see a medium. This is a masterfully written fiction story that's based on a degree realism. I loved that about it!
There are several twists throughout this story that I never saw coming, but the one at the end totally blew my mind!!! One thing that really annoys me about most thrillers is you have to wait until the end for all the action. This book starts with action from chapter one and doesn't let up!!!! At the risk of sounding clichéd: There's never a dull moment.
This is a rollercoaster ride of scary and thrilling story. Be prepared to be entertained. I read it in two days!!
