The Winkle On The Bus - And Other Stuff

Rate this book
Another Stand Alone Chapter of Memoir from Celebrated Houseboy Gillibran Brown - a legend in his own lunchtime

So what’s this winkle stuff all about then? Basically it’s the houseboy doing what he does best - chuntering and wittering about stuff in general, anything to avoid getting stuck into the housework. This chapter concerns more recent happenings in the houseboy's life.

This short story emphasises even more how unequally Shane treats his subs. When Dick has emotional problems, Shane is supportive, loving and lenient, but if it's Gilli, then there is only abuse, punishment and total dismissal of his feelings. Gilli is always excluded from the couple, denied information and treated like annoying pest. I think this is the cause for his self-destructive attention seeking and silly antics.

After finishing Gilliflowers, I was so angry and emotionally drained, I couldn't sleep and couldn't put away the thoughts about poor unloved Gilli, but after this chapter I've reached the last stages of grief: depression and acceptance.

Gilli is really a third wheel in Shane/Dick relationship and I hope (in vain) he will finally do something about it.

I must confess, Gillibran Brown is my Literary Revelation of The Year and I am looking forward to his next book.

Oh my! After finishing this I have the same feeling as after finishing The Snail Affair: Memoirs of a Houseboy! Shane and even Dick are just insensitive and in keeping important stuff from Gilli they contribute to his jealous fits! And after all these years they really should know how important Valentine's Day is for him - even if they don't believe in it, at least they could have chosen another date for their trip.

And I'm still waiting for some away-time of Gilli with his daddies!!!

Nevertheless, it was so good to read something new about him and therefore - 4 stars.

I love reading about Gillibran and his crazy life. I can't imagine anyone else who would have me laughing while he is talking about his epileptic fits.
This is just a short chapter but there is so much to tell here and he kept me reading to the last page.
The Gillibran chronicles are very British and so may not appeal to everyone but I adore his stories. I visit his blog every day in the hope of a new snippet.
Keep the stories coming, Gillibran. I, for one, cannot get enough of you.

I really enjoyed this one. Despite being a short story, it was a great read. It's set in 2015, 5 years after Revelations and there's a clear growth in Gilli that I love to see. He's still the same at the core, in terms of how he feels about things but I really love how he's changed his reaction and just generally, I love the relationship these 3 have and could honestly read about them for a long time.

Funniest Series Ever! And absolutely one of my favorite ever - 5 novels and lots of shorts (plus the website mentioned below). One day Revelations will come out and I'll re-read it again, although if it takes too long (and it's already been a long time), I'll probably end up re-reading what's already out again because it's just a great time - I literally laugh out loud (that's always fun to explain to the family). It's light domestic BDSM, menage, sexy, fun - yes!

Lots of shorts on the www.gillibran-brown.com/diary website - well worth visiting - literally hours of reading and dozens and dozens of laughs.

Some much needed levity (and the requisite bit of drama of course as it’s Gilli) after the rollercoaster emotional years of the previous few books. I truly adore this houseboy and his stories.

This American girl had to Google what a Winkle is though. It sounded much dirtier than it is. 😂 The differences between our languages always fascinate me.

This tore my heart out. Poor, darling, lost Gilli. There's a lot that's not stated explicitly in the relationship between Gilli, Shane and Dick, but I do believe there is caring there. It's just not stated in traditional ways.

I love Gilli and his writing.

Same old issue in this one but it never gets old. Poignant and funny. Gilli is trying very hard to fight his irrational emotional self and act selfless for Dick's sake. Love it!

Can't say enough....Loved it.

I was so excited when I read that Gillibran Brown was going to put out a new sort story. It was worth the wait. I love all his books and was not disappoint in this chapter of a house boys life. I can't wait to read more in the future and will continue to read his monthly updates on his day to day life. I highly recommend all his book's and know you won't be disappointed.

A short foray into the mind of my favourite houseboy. The way his mind works and the way he puts it on paper always makes me smile, although I was quite worried about him at the start of this chapter and could feel the tears welling up. So happy to hear from him again.

Things are pretty much the same: Daddy Shane is still mean, Dick is still lovely and Gilli is still a beautiful flower! Always enjoy Gilli's trials, tribulations and adventures.

I just love Gilli and his stories. He is so funny. I literally laughed so hard I had tears running down my face. I really can't wait for another chapter or full novel. Gilli is a clumsy, bratty houseboy, who probably deserves more spankings than he gets. I was sadden to hear

Gilly Gilly, I love getting a new Gilly story.

I've yet to be disappointed by any Gilly story.
Gilly seems to have matured in this story. Not just recognizing how his actions will have negative effects, but actually trying to avoid it....he's not always successful in that regard.

The scene with Shane and Gilly choked me up. I love those moments with Shane when you get the warm and fuzzies from him.
