I'm a small town girl who in early 2000 moved to New Jersey. I had been writing for years. I have so many manuscripts I started and never finished I don't know what to do with them all. I happened to be stuck at the Philadelphia airport with an editor from a publishing house in New York. She read one of my first manuscripts and offered me advise on how to improve it. I lost touch with her with my career in IT taking over. In 2013 I lost my job in IT after ten years with the same company. Found another, lost it again in 2014 due to cutbacks. During this downtime I started writing again and decided to explore Self-Publishing. I love living out the lives of my characters on paper. I love reading other author's works as well. There is nothing like getting lost inside someone's fantasy just for a little while because life sure isn't easy. You can forget your troubles inside the pages of a book.

What a great story!

I want to say up front, I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion in review.

Let me tell you what I liked about this story:

1. The characters—all the characters. Adone & Sonnie, Lucas & Savannah (main characters) + all the others, were all so well drawn and so complex and complete that I felt as if I’d know what they were going to say before they said it. That’s not to say that the story was predictable—far from it—but, I felt as if I knew them all. I felt like a member of the family. The author’s ability to make them so real for me is admirable.

2. I LOVED the time traveling aspects of the story. Each setting, each difficulty to overcome was intriguing and exciting. When things went wrong, I felt the pain. When things went right, I felt the joy. I was completely invested in this story line. I read this book—cover to cover—in just 5 hours over two days. If I didn’t feel the need to sleep it would have been done in one day!

3. I truly enjoyed how easily the author went from time period to time period so seamlessly. Not once did new settings and the change from one story to another feel awkward or forced. Very well written.

Here’s what I didn’t like:

1. Both the Introduction and the 1st chapter (both written to “set up” the story) WERE awkward and clunky. As a matter of fact, in the first ten minutes of reading I seriously thought about putting the book down and not picking it up again. HOWEVER, once I got past that first chapter, once the story actually began, it was almost as if the writing had changed hands. I don’t mean to imply anything here. I’m sure the author, Lee Wardlow, wrote every word of the entire book. I just mean to say the “clunkiness” went away. Suddenly, it seemed to me, that the author became comfortable with her story and the words began to flow seamlessly.

That Intro and the 1st chapter were ten minutes of reading…maybe. So, I want you the next reader to know, it did not spoil the rest of the book for me. I LOVED this book. The story was unique, the characters were well written, the pace was steady and exciting and intriguing…. This was a great book. I would recommend it to anyone!

I would, if pushed, rate this book a 4 ¾ star rating (because of that first ten minutes) but since I don’t have that option… I’m going to go ahead and rate it a five. I think it deserves it.

Great read from Lee Wardlow. This book was a winner of Goodreads for a review. It is a good clean story from an author with a vivid imagination. The Timekeeper will keep your interest from beginning to end.
