Emery Lannier returns east to visit her difficult parents for the first time in ten years, and gains a new perspective on the way her father's alcoholism shaped her childhood
This book started out quite promising, with Emery being an interesting protagonist. Coming home after a ten year absence, she finds her alcoholic, abusive parents even more broken. The first night she is there, the house burns to the ground (her mother tries to douse the fire by pouring a bottle of Scotch on it - you can see the direction this tale takes…). None of the characters are that intriguing, and their actions and reactions to life become tedious and repetitive. In the end, you just don’t care. Not recommended.
