'Evolve or Die' includes some weird and wonderful facts about survival and extinction. It covers the time when bacteria and slime ruled the earth, it explains why mutating mosquitos are man's worst enemy, and why rabbits eat their own poo.
Dr Phil Gates lectures on biology at the University of Durham, UK, and regularly writes for BBC Wildlife. His other books for children on natural history include The Aliens Are Coming, The Amazing World of Plants and 365 Days of Nature and Discovery.
Bought this series for when the kids are older. So glad I did! I read this one in an hour an a half. It's the perfect length to offer a primer on the topic, without overwhelming a middle grader. Good for refreshing my memory on some of the basics of evolution too. I can't wait to read to rest of the series.
This book is filled with weird and wonderful facts about survival and extinction. Go back millions of years to find out about insects as big as birds and fish with teeth, why you could be related to a chimp, and which incredible creatures are still being discovered....
This is hands down my favourite horrible science book to date! And i actually think this is the first book of the series I've given full marks to. And I think that's because this book was written by somebody else so it felt different, it felt more adult like the children it was written for, was being taught as if they where older, and that's what I've always thought was missing with these books is that they are fun and silly and to the point, but i always felt dumb down, but children are smarter than given credit. And it shows here with the subject matters, evole or die is the true facts of life of nature, we started at A and we still haven't read Z because all things are still evolving and changing! Dinosaurs ruled for centuries, now we use them in our cars, whos to say the same wont become of us, as humans evole and spread out and eat up all the food and take all the lands and kill the earth, the only shot we have to survive is leaving earth, and life in space and another planet will change us and we will evolve differently, change is a constant in the universe, after all it is what it says on the tin, Evolve or die.
The best book yet. I haven't left my eyes off it even when I was late for class. I was so proud that I found the best book ever in the world. It never can be more improved. The best yet.
I loved this book because it reminded me of blooming rainforests which was really good so this one was to it had loads of interesting facts in it so that’s why I rated this book five stars
‘Evolve or die’ was such an amazing book filled with lots of history jokes just to make the read a lot more intriguing to younger children! I give it a ⭐️🌟⭐️🌟⭐️
This book tells about different species. I learned that the book, The Origin of Species, is actually called: The Origin of Species by means of Natural Selection or The Preservation of Flavored Races in the Struggle for Life. In 1620, Archbishop Ussher worked out that God created Adam and Eve at 9 am on Sunday 23 October 4004 BC. Actually, the Earth was created about 4550 million years ago.
Again, like all of the Horrible Science books in the series, they mix humour with facts which makes it so much more fun to read. The jokes actually make us understand the facts more! This is a really go to book for all ages!
This is a really good book for teens, it explains evolution very clearly and it's quite entertaining and funny. It also is a very light read and it seems to be well writen.
