Welcome to Twirled World Ink where the crazies run the asylum.
Gene Sheridan earned the appropriate nickname when Legend Gib Phelps employed him at Twirled World Ink—Scary. No one made it out of his old neighborhood without scars both mental and physical. At one time, Scary thought he had a chance that is until his ex-boyfriend discovered slumming with someone like him wasn’t worth his trust fund. No-strings hookups became his go-to when he needed to relieve some tension. Co-owning a bar called Brawlers with his best friend, Tank, made it easy to find a body to use for the night. If not happy he was content with his life, but one man made content seem like such a terrible thing.
Elijah Vaughn worried about everything. His life was put on hold at eighteen when his mostly-absent parents died on one of their many adventures leaving him to raise his six-year-old brother, Brody. He’d never had anything or anyone that was just his. When Brody met a tattoo artist named Trouble, Elijah hadn’t realized how much it would change his life too. He met a huge man named Scary and how the man made him feel terrified him.
Tank Davis lost his voice the night he was attacked and had this throat slit ear-to-ear. It kept him in a world of silence. Silent and intimidating, he scared off more men than he drew to him. His best friend Scary and him made a life for themselves in small town Georgia with their bar Brawlers. Most night everyone could find him working security at the door. Scary called in a favor, and Tank met the one man he couldn’t resist, proper and upstanding Elijah Vaughn.
Can one man accept that there’s not one perfect man for him, but two damaged souls who need him to be whole?
Author's Note: Although this is the first book in a series each book is standalone and every book deals with a separate couple.
USA Today Bestselling author J.M. Dabney is a multi-genre published writer of Body and Fat Positive Romance & Fiction. They live with a constant diverse cast of diverse characters in their head. They live for one purpose alone, and that’s to make sure everyone gets the happily ever after they deserve. There is nothing more they want from telling their stories than to show that no matter the package the characters come in or the damage their pasts have done, that love is love. That normal is never normal and sometimes the so-called broken can still be beautiful.
The author is Non-Binary and uses the pronouns They/Them.
Yes, it hasn't been long since I read these books but they're easy reading and I enjoy them. I want to be friends with all these guys.

There's just something about these characters I love and will probably continue to keep coming back to.

Really enjoyed this ménage. These 3 guys were great together and with their little addition, Juvie. I loved seeing the crews again and look forward to their stories. I can't wait for Lucky and Priest's book but have to wait a week dammit!
Holy Hell, what an absolute trainwreck. Seriously, this was just completely terrible.
First things first, let's get the obvious out of the way: it's honestly embarrassing how badly this book was written. I am 100% convinced the author simply wrote this stuff down in one go, didn't glance at it again, and just send it off on its merry way. The spelling mistakes, typos, grammatical errors, odd sentence structures; it was all too much and can genuinely be best described as headache inducing. It was non-stop. I have no problem with a few mistakes here and there, but this was almost offensive, as it seemed no one had bothered to take a second look at the product before it was published. It's just weird, because really, how much effort does it even take to read a moderately short book again to fix all the glaring mistakes that have been made? Ugh. Annoying. If someone doesn't even respect their own work, then why should I?
In any case, it was seriously hard to follow what was even going on, but that was not only because of the weird and mistake riddled writing style. It was also because everything that was happening in this story, happened with a snap of a finger; you could read two sentences along and suddenly something monumental had happened. It genuinely gave me whiplash. It was also absolutely impossible to connect with the characters or the story this way: everything was glossed over and was never explored in depth. It was all nothing more than superficial nonsense participating in some sort of confusing sprint to the finish line.
Now, with regards to the plotline, I must say that at first I thought I actually quite liked it. I liked the idea of both Scary and Tank being besotted with Elijah, and rather than one of them or even both of them being willing to let him go, they decide to share him so they can all be happy.
"We want you, and we're willing to share because neither of us is going to let the other have you alone."
Two big bad boy bikers falling for the shy and sweet Elijah? Yea, I kind of liked that. Although I must say that in my opinion Scary was totally redundant and Elijah and Tank would have been adorable together as a couple without him, but whatever. Anyway, it doesn't matter, because eventually things were totally ruined for me regardless. When Scary suddenly (and completely out of nowhere) decided that he was also in love with his bestie Tank, it totally threw off the entire dynamic. Instead of Tank and Scary both being Elijah's boyfriends, they were now also involved with each other, and it just didn't seem balanced to me anymore. It felt off and I didn't like the development.
Oh, and I was also absolutely bored out of my mind, so this whole thing wasn’t even ‘entertainingly’ bad, you know?
Long story short, it was all just kind of... awful.
J.M. Dabney books: Scary - 1.0 star By Way of Pain - 1.0 star
* A Twirled World Ink, book three. Each can stand alone. * This fun book has a wild bunch of characters. *** Elijah raised his brother Brody, who is now with Trouble and his girl, little Mina, "Princess". So, as her Uncle, Elijah gets to join the crazy crew. Elijah is the Mayor, but not up-tight and judgmental. Scary and Tank own Brawlers Bar, and are part of the Twirled World Ink family of friends.
As honorary Uncles, Scary and Tank love Princess and she's a great kid. When someone hurts her feelings, they all help her. Elijah has had a crush on Scary, and then meets Tank, and wants him too. Could there be a problem? Elijah's a virgin, but knows what he wants, and big, hairy, muscled, tattooed, scarred bikers, Scary and Tank, want him. I loved these bigger than life characters, their openness, smart ass banter, and fierce protectiveness. We get hot ménage sexiness, and Elijah's friends try to help him by taking him to the sex toys shop, funny stuff. These characters are gloriously crazy, the tale is gripping, and we love it. There is some violence, a bit of angst, but everything holds our interest, and we can't put it down. Each man will touch your heart, and the trio really does belong together ! There's a kidnapping, rescue, and an adoption, which all lead to a HEA. Highly recommended ! ENJOY !
Scary is book three in JM Dabney’s Twirled World Ink Series! Scary can totally be read as a standalone but why would you do that? Seriously! With each book my love for this series has only grown. I really feel the connections, ongoing jokes and tidbits, and you appreciate these guys more invested you become.
This fabulous book it’s called Scary… Because we are dealing with that character. Here’s the thing; it’s also a ménage! I know I know. I was like over the moon! I love ménages and where my hope was for Scary to get with Elijah I had so much love for Tank! So when the three became a thing… Yeah I needed to be resuscitated.
Now, the big question… Did it live up to ménage standards? I’ve only said it a billion times; ménage is one of those tropes I’m very critical with. Because I’ve read exceptional and horrible threesomes I know what I love. I know what makes them work perfectly. And Scary has fit the bill.
The psychological element is ALWAYS the most important for me with threesomes. If I can’t click with that and understand the three, it won’t work; regardless of how sexy they are. Tank intrigued me from the beginning. I knew there was sexual tension with Scary and Elijah so I was desperate to know more about how they all would click.
JM Dabney did not fail at all. She brought three brilliant characters together and made their story worthy of being a top favorite ménage for me. If you’re like me and though you love the gorgeous physical element of it but long for the psychological, look no further.
The Twirled World Ink Series is fast becoming a favorite series of mine on top of all this amazingness! The characters are not models. They are gruff, scarred, hairy criminals. They have hearts of gold and fists of iron. They’ll break your heart one way or another and I adore that. Make this series one you read!
*sighs* This one was okay and I mostly liked the m/m/m relationship between Tank, Elijah and Scary but I felt like some je ne sais quoi was missing. Which is odd to me because this story is so much longer than the first two books, so I felt like there should have been more.
I don't know. Might just be my mood.
Once again the editing and proofreading were sorely lacking. But, frankly, I was expecting it to be bad so I was able to largely ignore it. The thing that annoyed me once again though? The time jumps. It felt like we got told a lot, but not shown much.
And why was Brody missing from so much of this? Elijah is his brother, the dude who raised him, and they were very close in the last book, but barely spent any time together in this one. Come to think of it, the crew is really only peripherally in this one...
But I digress.
Anyway, I did like that it is told from all three men's POV, the throuple sexy times were good when we actually got to see them, and it has a sweet HEA.
I just wish there had been a little more on page relationship building, and maybe even gotten to see Tank get his voice back.
All in all, while I can't claim it's my favorite, I can't say it was a complete disappointment either.
Although this is the third book in the series each book is a standalone featuring a different couple.
I'm a little bit obsessed with this series....Even though the author is allergic to question marks and some of the editing is a bit dicey... I'm not one of those grammar nazi's so I really don't care about it, as long as the story is awesome.... but for real, at least add the question marks.... it's not like you're only allowed so many!
But, okay, so.... I'm not big on m/m/m....not at all, it's just not my cup of tea...but I loved these three together. I couldn't wait for Scary and Elijah, but then you throw in Tank and it was like, a giant, happy bonus! Now, this one was a little more angsty than the others, we had more to go over...I was disappointed at first because Scary and Tank didn't have a relationship and I Just wasn't sure how that was going to work out... but, it got fixed, so if that's something you're worrying about.... don't. They work it out and it's hot :D
I think all the guys in this series, kind of thinks that they're not good enough for the guys they fall for, or they're utterly clueless about whoever having feelings for them.... it was no different with this one. Scary and Tank both thought Elijah was too good for them and Elijah couldn't believe they wanted him. But, of course they did, why wouldn't they? I also wasn't a fan of Juvie at first, but how sad... because she just wanted a family and I loved that the guys could give it to her, even if everything happened so fast with them- with all of them.
I LOVE Psycho... I'm excited as he ll that his book is already out so I can jump into soon. I don't think I'm going to stop this series until I read him. I'm not sure how I feel about Lucky, I know he's next, but he's so obnoxious... I know he means well, but my goodness, I'm exhausted with the little page time he gets, I can't imagine a whole book about him.... I may need a good nights sleep first! But, Psycho... well, Psycho I can't wait for... He's scary and yummy and crazy and hot and....well, psycho....all jumbled up together... I'm looking forward to him!
Overall though, this was an awesome addition to an already awesome series and i can't believe i'm only just now finding it....and burning through it. 5 stars for me!
Geez Louise, this was bad. But it didn't start that way. I read the sample and really enjoyed it. Then I paid my $5.26AUD and suffered a major letdown. If I had given up on this sooner I would have returned for a refund.
I haven't read any of the other books in this "world" by this author and I can honestly say I won't be. Here we have a shocking case of insta-love, caveman style. There was so much talk of "claiming" that this could have been a shifter novel. There's hardly any on page relationship building. Tank and Scary all but throw Elijah over their shoulders and grunt "mine" at anyone who passes by.
And Elijah? The mayor? Hmmm. I don't think so. In my experience mayors are actually busy and are surrounded by a slew of staff. Not Elijah. He strolls about town by himself whenever he wants and at about 50% he finally rang his "secretary" to rearrange some "meetings". And don't forget he's a 35 year old virgin. Now, there's nothing wrong with that, but in this story I just didn't believe it, no matter how many times he comes across as a fragile flower they have to rescue.
And then we have the time jumps. If they're done right they can help move the story along. But here large chunks of time are missing so it's like all of the time they spend together outside of the bedroom is on fast forward and we don't really see it. And that, IMO, is lazy writing. It felt like it was too hard to get their chemistry right so we get a whole lot of "telling" about how good they are together instead of experiencing it ourselves.
What I did like was how two of the MC are older, scarred and not the picture of perfection. But alas, this was not the book for me.
I didn't know how this triad was all going to work but it ended up hot and sexy. I loved each H and their relationship with the others. One of my favorites by this author.
I am certain this would have been a good book if Dabney had an editor. As it is, I was confused for much of the time. You see, Dabney is trying out MMM, which is slightly harder than MM because you have three way conversations, three people doing things and, as it's a book, you need to describe things so people know who's doing what. When it's two people in a scene, you kinda get what's going on with less description, but when it's three you need to signpost. Conversations were just impossible. Dabney is aware of the technique of a new line denoting alternate speakers, but is not aware that this technique doesn't work in a three way conversation.
It's possible that she thought the italicising of Tank's lines would denote the different speaker and it did, but it didn't clarify who, out of Elijah and Scary, was responding to him. This got even worse when Elijah's voice morphed into Scary's style of speaking part way through the book. Then the formatting style of having Tank's lines in Italics wasn't consistently maintained so that confused things further.
Add into that that Dabney just doesn't really believe in descriptions at all, and you have no idea what's going on. For example At other times she does describe it, but with maddening economy such that it's not really a description at all. It took a while to work out that Psycho and Elijah were talking when lines of conversation suddenly started happening. I was convinced the conversation was between Psycho and Scary.
Like most Americans she has a tenuous grasp of the English language, the worst of this being a complete inability to grasp past and passed. Dabney, here's a quick lesson.
He walked past me [not passed].
A great deal of time had passed by [not past].
He wasn't going to get anything past me [not passed].
He passed me a coffee [not past].
Past is something that has passed and passed is something that is stilling passing. See? Ok, maybe I won't make a great English teacher but I know the difference between passed and past.
On the plus side, she doesn't use literally like other Americans, which earned her an extra star (the first being for her world building).
I know there's some unofficial rule that it's bad form to criticise an author's writing and, on that, I call BS. Being an author isn't just about coming up with characters, story arcs and plots, it's about being able to TELL that story in a coherent fashion. And whilst I really liked the idea of this book (a buttoned up lonely guy finding love with two tattooed bears) I just couldn't get on board with a story that I barely understood because I couldn't decipher the writing.
Okay, hold up, we have to talk about this book - because, wow, this is the one. No joke, this is by far my favorite in the series. Like, if you’re reading this and haven’t picked it up yet, what are you even doing with your life? Seriously, from the first page to the last, I was hooked. You know that feeling when you open a book, and it just pulls you in so deep you forget where you are? Yeah, that was me - completely lost in this one.
The plot? On point. The chemistry? FIRE. The action? Tension* Don't even get me started - this book hit every note. You could literally feel the heat between the characters through the pages, and every twist and turn kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t put it down if I tried. Honestly, it was like I was chained to it, and I didn’t even care.
Now, let’s talk about Psycho. Because, seriously, this guy? STANDOUT. I mean, if he doesn’t get his own book soon, I’m going to need someone to explain how that’s even possible. He’s a total mess in the best way. I can already see the next book brewing in my mind. Because if we don’t get more of his chaotic brilliance, I’ll be over here throwing a full-blown temper tantrum. Like, this man needs his time to shine, stat. The buildup to his story is already making me crave more, and I’m not here for any more delays. Give him his own damn book, please.
If you’ve been sticking with the series, you already know this book is an absolute must-read. It doesn’t just add to the story - it takes it to the next level. This one has me counting down the days for the next book, and honestly? I’m not patient enough to wait that long. It’s gonna be a long wait, and I might need to invent a time machine just to speed things up. Can you imagine?
But really, if you’ve been loving the series so far, this is the one that’s gonna make you 100% hooked. And if you haven’t started the series yet? Do it. Like, right now. No excuses. Don’t come to me later saying you missed out on this gem because, trust me, you’ll regret it. This book has everything - the plot, the characters, the drama - literally everything you need.
So, yeah. I’m over here salivating for more, and I’m not even sorry about it. Next book, please, because I need it.
wow I loved this story. all three of them are interesting characters and I love how they fit together it could have been 5 stars if it would have been longer because some things did need a bit more page time.
When life is in a rut, and here comes change. Is Elijah ready for the Unexpected? Enjoy this story of how Elijah finds love with Scary and Tank. And the cast of characters that make this book a great read.
So happy to get this book. I was all excited to see where Elijah's story would take him, I was not disappointed. Fun, lighthearted, and growly I will definitely be reading this book again. Now to see where Lucky and Priest go!
So I actually really enjoyed this. Loved the characters, the pacing and the storytelling. My issue was that half the time I didn't know who was speaking, or whose point of view I was following. The head jumping is unreal. I would think it would be one person talking, but then they would be the one responding. I would think it was just two of them having sex, and then suddenly the third one would be taking a shirt off. I didn't even know he was home! I've seen people complain about the lack of editing, so I was more looking for spelling/grammatical errors. Those weren't as bad as I expected, but an editor was definitely needed content-wise.
Still, I enjoyed Scary, Tank and Elijah and I definitely want to read Psycho's story.....Priest and his guy's not so much.
I wished Tank would have said a few words at some point, and it really would have taken this story to another level if Elijah had called Scary 'Daddy'. I mean he so was....and they both called Elijah their boy...but I guess it was fine as is.
The editing is AWFUL !!! Or I should say, it lacks editing. At some point, I guess she liked the way it sounded when her characters used the word “ya” instead of “you” and she took that and ran with it, marathon style.
As far as the story goes, it was ok. I found it interesting that she made it such a point about Elijah engaging in something with Tank & Scary, enough to write a whole chapter around it, yet it never actually happens. These are tough books to rate, because although I’m drawn to them, the editing is just so bad, that it truly takes away from the books.
OK I really tried but had to DNF at 42%. I can't with all the possessive "boys" & "my man/men". Also the virgin brother... I had hoped to see the series through to Lucky & Priest's book but this made me nope out of the rest of this series & the spin off.
I'm really enjoying this series of books but they seriously need an editor. Over the three I've read so far there have been a few mixed up names or times I've had to re-read a sentence to ensure I understood it but for the most part I can read through the errors.
Loving this great group of rough and tumble characters finding love and looking forward to more
Scary is book 3 in the Twirled World Ink series and is a ménage. This is an odd one – Loved the characters but the story didn’t really feel right to me until almost the end. Until you get to the last 20% it’s actually 2 couples sharing the same space and sometimes a bed and that imbalance felt wrong. Then there was THAT kiss and holy hell the world righted itself.
As the name Scary implies Gene ‘Scary’ Sheridan has a darkness around him that not many see past. Scary is another one in the group that has been turned away from love after a previous disastrous relationship left him closing off his feelings. I just loved his interactions with Mina though that proved there was more to see if only you looked more closely. Scary’s best friend and business partner is Tank but when they both fall for the same man they find themselves closer than ever before. Tank has a rough past that saw him nearly dead when he tried to escape his old neighbourhood – the repercussions of that still play a huge part in his life as he hasn’t spoken a word since it happened.
We met Mayor Elijah Vaughn in book 2. He is Brody’s uptight and aloof brother with a lot of jealousy towards his niece’s new uncles. Elijah is another one that survived a rough past when he was left to bring up his younger brother when he was still a child himself. With his younger years spent as a surrogate father he has little to no experience with relationships or sex and it makes him awkward – painfully so at times. It’s funny to watch this shy and unsettled man fall for not one but both of the scariest men in the group but it’s equally delightful to see him grow in those relationships and finally come out of his shell.
As with the previous two books the editing is still very poor but once again my rating hasn’t reflected hat fact.
For one, the writing is horrible. This needs a big scrubbing down. There are missed words, spelling errors, continuity mistakes. The dialog sounds put on and the overuse of profanity just for the sake of sounding "rough" is not helping. It's also hard to keep track of who's PoV it is or who is talking, since everyone sounds basically the same. Then, everything is told. What little is shown often downright contradicts what we are told. The characters aren't fleshed out at all, we are just told how they are supposed to be. I'm also pretty sure the author never researched or checked up on anything. They just wrote it down as it got into their head. The story feels unrealistic and unbelievable throughout. It's kinda like reading very mediocre fan fiction. It just does not feel like this is the work of a professional.
Then there is the insta-attraction, insta-love and insta-family. The two big guys just decide at some point they are going to date Elijah and fuck what he's got to say about it.
The book is essentially just a collection of scenes with big time-jumps in between. We never really get a complete picture of the relationship, just glimpses of the most juicy drama. Often the scenes feel like they are incomplete and there needs to be some follow up, but that never happens on page (like Elijah telling Tank he loves him first, but we never get the scene where he tells Scary for the first time).
All in all, it's a mess. Some of the sex scenes are kinda sexy, if you like rough and dirty, but other than that the book just annoyed me for the whole duration.
As far as Menage’s go this one was alright, and written well. I was a little worried at first they wouldn’t get it together just each taking turns at “sharing” Elijah. But Scary and Tank figured out what they needed in the relationship as well. It was a little predictable knowing something was going to happen with the “ex” hanging around. But there was the perfect amount of suspense and drama when it came to that part of the book. Good story, will be on my re-read list.
I love the story line and characters and will continue to read the series but the books need a good proofread. The world and characters are very well thought out. The only flaws are grammar errors and train of thought drops. The stories are worth a read and I believe as the author sharpens her skills she is going to write some heart stopping stories.
This is the worst ménage book I have encountered in a while. The story is inconsistent and dull, the characters a mismatch of no chemistry, Scary was not needed and everything else about this book just sucked.
Very badly edited, and a fairly far-fetched story. I don't really get what they see in each other or how on earth the relationship between them is supposed to last.
"Tank and Scary were coming through the door, and the look on their faces was enough to scare the hell out of sociopath. “Oh hell.” He ducked into the circular rack of fetish wear and sat in the middle of it."
I'm not quite sure how I feel about ménage romances, so far I can deal with them but they're definitely not my favourite. I probably wouldn't have read this had it not been in the middle of this series which i'm really enjoying.
However this was another enjoyable addition, I didn't dislike it in the least, it kept me entertained and endeared. I didn't feel the deep emotional connection as much in this one, as much as I did in the others but that could very well be because I'm still on the fence about a relationship that includes more than 2 people and not necessarily because the author didn't do their job.
We also welcome an addition to the series, Sophie, better known as, Juvie. She was okay, we didn't get to know her extremely well and I definitely wouldn't say there was enough page time with her to have an emotional investment in her character but I didn't mind her as an addition to the cast of characters we already have, perhaps if we didn't have so many lovable characters to follow then I would have found her .. unwelcome but because there's so many people already then she fits in to the story fine. I will add that whilst I praised the author for getting Princesses age and maturity right, I was a little befuddled by Juvie, am I right in saying that she was picked up at one point? Just randomly held like a child? And Elijah wanted to read her a bedtime story and tuck her in? Hm I thought that was a little young.
The romance was great, no need to sweat too much about the chance of these three being a successful trio together, I know that's something I had concerns about. There was a few tricky bits, they did need to find their feet a little but in the end we got our HEA.
This series is going really well for me and I'd definitely recommend it if your someone who likes a huge cast of vulgar, gay, badass and unique characters. It's light and packed with romance and affection (my favourite) whilst the characters still pull off the badass, slightly biker, slightly criminal, "we don't care what people think" vibe.
“I did not, he’s trying to get me in trouble.” "I didn’t know you wanted to switch, baby?” "That’s not what I meant, Trouble.”
A few things that bug me; as pointed out by nearly every single review - these books are filled with mistakes, I'm not a genius when it comes to grammar, most of the time I don't get it right and a lot of the time I don't even try to but I feel like question marks are one of the first things you learn and something that should be fairly easy to remember, where the fuck are they all?!?! And the second thing that's been niggling at me as I make my way through this series is the unrealistic way in which everyone is gay or bi. Everyone. Ok not some of the parents, but everyone else is. We have siblings and adopted children and everyone in the crews and part of me is absolutely fine with that because it means more gay romance books for me to read and another part of me is having a hard time with it because it's so beyond fictional.
Also - we met Psycho!! The very man that made it so this series caught my attention.
Safety. •completely safe (this series is looking to be that way so far - please god stay that way) •a little violence - nothing squeamishy •the Villain of this book is Tanks "ex" he causes drama and at one point kisses Tank and tank punches him in return •no cheating, no OP (outside the three), no disloyalty
