Eclipses are visual phenomena. Yet many eclipse books are “sciencey,” text-based with lengthy verbal descriptions but only a handful of illustrations. In contrast, Eclipses Illustrated employs a visual medium to present visual lessons for understanding this most visual subject. Eclipses Illustrated is a five-part series of detailed depictions of eclipse phenomena, presented in an approachable, “user-friendly” illustrated format.
There has not been a total eclipse of the Sun over the Continental United States since the 1970s. An entire generation of Americans has come of age never experiencing this mind-blowing spectacle in their own nation. But this “dark age” ends with the total eclipse of August 21, 2017, when a “golden age” of American eclipses begins! There will be FIVE total solar eclipses in the United States over the next 35 years! And many lunar eclipses will be seen over the USA in the next decade. The majestic spectacle of eclipses will be a defining feature of 21st century American life. Eclipses Illustrated will help prepare readers of all ages to observe and appreciate the amazing eclipse phenomenon.
Book 1 – The Eclipse Experience teaches the elements of solar and lunar eclipses. Special emphasis is given to American eclipses of the 21st century. Many visual aspects of eclipse observing are explained, including detailed instructions for safe viewing and the importance of viewing the eclipse from the right location.
