Police detective Joe Cabrera used to have a pretty good life. Promising career, plenty of flirtations, and he never once needed to question the nature of his reality. All of that changed when he discovered the truth of the lalassu. Suddenly, he fell deep into a rabbit hole of paranormal powers, shadowy conspiracies and millennia-old secrets. Now, his old no-nonsense approach to his job just doesn’t work any longer. If he wants to stop his old enemy, André Dalhard, from hurting anyone else, Joe will need to find a more flexible option.
A master of disguise, Cali has assumed so many identities over the years that remembering who she was born to be is impossible. Abandoned on the streets as a child, she was rescued by André Dalhard. She’s served him loyally for many years, using her shape-shifting abilities to take on new personas in the blink of an eye, such as Boomerang, the master thief. To save Mr. Dalhard from prison, she becomes Colleen Avila, a meek and mild personal secretary.
Joe initially planned to use Colleen as a confidential informant, but wasn’t prepared for the intensity of his feelings for her. When he meets the arrogant and brash Boomerang and the determined and fearless Cali, he finds himself torn between the three women. For Cali, she knows she must inevitably either break Joe’s heart or turn against the man who saved her from a life of uncertainty and poverty.
As Joe and Cali work together, they discover an even greater threat to the lalassu, one that could send everyone tumbling down into a new rabbit hole. If their fears are realized, neither their friends nor their enemies will be able to escape.
Thanks for looking me up! I've taken the advice to leave Goodreads to readers, so I'm not active on here but you can find me on Twitter (@jclewisupdate), Facebook (Jennifer Carole Lewis) and Instagram (Jennifer_carole_lewis). Happy reading!
I am a full time writer, full time admin person and a full time mother (which is at least two more times than I actually have but somehow I'm making it work while still finding time to watch TV and read).
I've always loved stories: watching them, reading them, or telling them. I've recently self-published my first novel and I'm very excited to see about making my dreams come true.
I like alternate realities, urban fantasy, paranormal romance, superpowers, alternative history and secret societies. That's what inspires my work.
"Spectacular" is not a strong enough word for this book!
Jennifer's writing is exceptional. Her word choice, imagery, dialogue, EVERYTHING is so perfectly done. Add to that nail-biting elements of the suspenseful drama entwined throughout, and that makes for one heck of a story!
As with the other books in this series, I was sucked in from the first page. This was one of those books where I would sneak even a paragraph into any spare moment I could find.
When I think of "romantic suspense," this is my ideal story. While this does have paranormal elements to it, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this to anyone looking for an AMAZING romantic suspense. The "suspense" is definitely present, but so is the romance!
I am sincerely hoping that Jennifer adds more books to this series. An underlying plot has unfolded over the course of the series. I would absolutely suggest reading them in order, and reading all of them because they're amazing.
But don't say I didn't warn you. You'll be HOOKED!
(I received a copy of this book in consideration of an honest review)
'Inquisition' is the third book of the Lalassu series, my favourite paranormal romance series. This book focuses on police officer Joe Cabrera, who takes centre stage after playing Michael's sidekick. Cali is a complex love interest who's an interesting character in her own right. This book felt more like a Marvel story to me than a romance, which worked for me.
My favourite part of this book though was the rise of a new super-villain and the introduction of his sister. I look forward to reading the next book 'Judgement' to see how what these bad guys do next.
Fast-paced, great interaction between the characters and a suspenseful plot. Even though it was a bit of time in between reading book 2 and 3, I never felt lost or taken out of the story. Great to read as a series, but also easy to pick up on its own.
For those of you who read my reviews you will know this is not my normal genre - i have always been a bit cautious with paranormal reading - and to be honest i am not sure how i got this book - its was probably a free download - but i will say as I find, it was a really good book, well written and full of suspense and romance. I have not read any previous books form this author but if they are all of this quality I would not hesitate to recommend them.
