The Mars Family base is under attack, besieged by Hum and his army of deadly cryptids. To save his people in this epic battle, Grahame must step forward as a leader, putting everything he cares about on the line to salvage the broken remains of the Cryptocracy. * A blend of The X-Files and Marvel’s A.I.M. “Cryptocracy sets up a grand stage that will play out for years, and creates enough questions that it leaves the reader enthralled after the last panel.”—Capeless Crusader
Van Jensen is the acclaimed author of the award-winning GODFALL trilogy (Grand Central). The sci-fi/thriller genre mashup series is in development for TV with Academy Award winner Ron Howard attached to direct and Jensen serving as executive producer.
Jensen was born and raised in the farm country of Western Nebraska where he wrote and drew stories as soon as he could hold a pencil. He became a newspaper crime reporter, then a magazine editor, and eventually an author of comic books and graphic novels. He has written some of the world’s biggest characters, including James Bond, Godzilla, and The Flash, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern for DC Comics. His original graphic novels include ARCA (IDW), Two Dead (Simon & Schuster/Gallery 13), Two Dead (Dark Horse), and Pinocchio, Vampire Slayer (Top Shelf/IDW).
A sudden attack on one Family leader prompted a meeting of all Families, which became an ambush at the hands of the mysterious Hum.
Grahame, a Senior in the Mars Family, led an effort to find and kill Hum. He and Jason, a bugbear agent, followed a lead to the Preserve, where they barely survived an attack from rogue cryptids that then broke loose.
Grahame and Jason tracked down Bela, a conspiracy theorist who had leaked a trove of information revealing Family operations. After learning she was manipulated by Hum. Grahame and Jason returned to the Mars base... where they discovered that Family Elder Nick had been murdered by Hum.
Grahame challenged fellow Senior Temple for the right to rule and defeated her, becoming Elder... just in time to watch as Bela's followers detonated explosives atop the Mars Family base.
This is not a series for those with a mind towards conspiracies. Hidden families rule everything we do, have advanced alien technology, and plot against each other with no regard for the cost of human life.
Very busy and rushed, and as feared, the series is left open ended. 3 stars.
