Few small *SPOILERS* One of my favorite series ever!! An absolute MUST READ! I could not out these books down. This series has everything an amazing series needs. It had horror, romance, thrills, action, comedy, drama, and everything. I loved that it was set up like a TV 📺 show. This author is so very talented. As I was reading, I could literally picture everything that was going on like riot was a movie in my head. I could see all of the characters clearly. It takes real talent to write like that and this author, Rachel Higginson, has that talent in spades. I love Reagan, OMG she is super amazing. She is strong, independent, funny, beautiful, outgoing, and she dont take shit anyone. She's a true female heroin. Her best friend Haley is amazing. I know that if the end of world came with zombies I would want someone like her by my side as well. They have been thru so much together, both, before and after the zombie apocalypse. I love how they meet the Parker brothers lol. It was funny what they were looting for and then got trapped by zombies for a while. Hendrix is the love of Reagan's life and those two have sparks between them for sure. The sexual tension between them is palpable. I love how Hendrix is with Reagan. He is a bad ass but he is also sweet at times. He is fierce and loyal. His brothers are all the same. I love that they all became a huge close family. The Parker brothers are one in a million. They are all badasses. Their dad taught them how to survive before the zombie apocalypse came. They got to fine tune all of their skills during the apocalypse. They try to save people and help others. They believe in the good of people. They fight for family and they believe in each other. They trust each other and they are just an amazing group of people. This series was so hard to put down. I wish it would never end but alas, all good things must come to an end. It stinks, but I'm excited to start the next series with paiges POV and to see what she gets up to on get adventure. Paige is the Parker brothers little sister. They are all fiercely protective of her. Reagan and Haley become just as protective of her. They are all one big family who kicks ass.
I will say that this last part of the series had me crying for reals. I never expected there to be such a loss in this family but there is and it's heartbreaking. It really made my heart hurt as if I was really losing them too.
This author made an epic book series. I hope that they turn it into a TV 📺series. That would be amazing. A MUST READ series for those who love a good apocalyptic zombie story.
The plot of the story is very good. Loved the family. Hated the female leads cyclic inner monologue. I found myself skipping the repetitive thought processes. Hoping season 4 has good changes.
I can't with this one. I'm exhausted after reading it, but get this: the series is still not done, people. It's not done! Gah. I can't. After reading the first two books, or seasons, that were 700+ pages long, I just barely finished season 3. It drug on, and on, and on it seemed, though it might have been shorter than the first two seasons. I just felt like so much happened in this book in such a short amount of time that it's hard for me to wrap my head around.
DON'T READ AHEAD IF YOU'RE ALLERGIC TO SPOILERS. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.
My biggest issue with this book? One of the main characters just up and died with only 95% of the book left. 95%, people. Like, what the hell? Someone please explain that to me. When I started this series, I knew not everyone was going to make it to the end. I knew that. It's the apocalypse, after all. But to kill Vaughan with only 5% left of the book? ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? WHAT THE. WHY? God, I'm so frustrated with this author. You kill Vaughan, sure, I can handle that. But don't do it when he's so close to reaching the final destination. Don't do it when Tyler finally admitted her feelings to the guy. Don't do it in the last book of the series, at the very freaking end. Kill him at the beginning of season 3, or hell even in the middle. Better yet, kill him in book 2. I just... I don't even know what to say. I can't accurately describe how I'm feeling right now, other than disgust and utter disappointment.
I was so enjoying this series, then Reagan started to annoy me (I couldn't sympathize with her anymore) but then she kinda sorta made a comeback, then Vaughan died. And he didn't die in a heroic way saving one of his family members. Oh no. He didn't get that honor . He died by a measly little zombie bite on his arm. And we're talking measly. It barely scratched the surface of his skin, and yet he STILL DIED. You couldn't have at least had his arm get chewed to the bone or something? Make it more of a worthwhile, believable death that a slight scratch on the arm. SMH. And did it have to be Vaughan? I understand (kinda) that not everyone had to make it to the research lab, but don't kill the bloody leader when he was so close. I'm just disgusted. This series kept me engaged for three weeks, and the very last 5% percent of the series ruined it all for me. Just absolutely ruined it. I can't think about it without going into an all-American rage.
Reason two I'm utterly disgusted: Matthias bloody Allen is still not dead. Now that is something I do not believe for one second. The guy got shot in the chest 3 times and had a building collapse on him. How did he survive? How? I get the need for antagonists, but make up some new ones for God's sake. Get a little creative. The Walking Dead is a great example for this. How many dead mercenaries are we up to now with that show? 5? You know why? Because the good guys did the deed and killed the SOBs. Then a new bad guy was born and we start all over. Season 3 brought in a lot of secondary bad guys, and while most of them died, Matthias did not. Whatever.
I'm so done. No matter how much I love Hendrix and his band of merry men, I can't say I liked this season, or rather the last season and a half. I hated it. Have you caught on yet? Way to ruin something good, Rachel Higginson. You ruined one of 11 people who have rated this season. I won't be coming back. Even if I did start to read Page's story, I just couldn't make myself. I didn't like Page and she wasn't believable to me - grown up at 18 and still acting like a child. No thanks. You've really ruined it. Kudos to you.
So much going on... Reagan and the gang are still trying to get to Colombia to find a cure and the road is beyond Rocky. Mexico is chaotic with the drug lords fighting over territory and feeders. As they fight for their lives we see that humanity is still here with Joy and Andy. Matthias has bounty on Reagan's head and is not letting his vengeance go. The characters are still strong and I definitely like that the story is progressing more steadily. Reagan has changed with everything that has happened previously and I don't know if I like it. I liked the strong take no stuff from anyone attitude and now she is just there trying to survive. Hendrix has taken me by surprise and honestly I like it. I also liked that we got to see from other character's POV. I was really sad we lost a character but I'm glad that they stuck together and made it through.
