Totally In Continuity is the first misfire in Christopher Hastings’ otherwise excellent Unbelievable Gwenpool run. Not that it’s completely bad but it’s definitely not as good as the first two books.

I think that’s because it’s a grab-bag of random stories so this volume feels like a transition/buffer book between the first story arc and the next. It opens with a throwaway story where Gwen’s hired to protect some supernatural folk from Blade the Vampire Hunter. It’s a meh read and unfortunately doesn’t feature series regular Gurihiru’s sublime art. Instead we have to make do with Myisha Haynes’ Squirrel Girl-level art which is plain at best - it’s really no substitute.

Thankfully Gurihiru returns for the best story here: Gwen and her henchmen are captured by Arcade to be toyed with in a D&D-type deathtrap - good thing Gwen knows she’s in a comic book and can use that knowledge to turn the tables on Arcade! But who else can break the fourth wall? That’s right, Gwen finally meets her (kinda but not really) namesake, Deadpool!

It’s a funny, subversive story of the kind that this title has done so well. And I loved that she struggled to deal with Deadpool because he’s one of the few Marvel characters she doesn’t read in her world!

The team-up two-parter with Hawkeye/Kate Bishop and Ghost Rider/Robbie Reyes was readable but not especially compelling and once again had bland art from Haynes. And the Holiday Special was utter crap: an unfunny and uninteresting assortment of bad stories, most of which had nothing to do with Gwen (Red Skull, Punisher, Fin Fang Foom, Pantsgiving whaaat?!)!

It’s an ok third book but the quality is very uneven throughout. I’m hoping Gurihiru is able to be more involved in the next one and I’m intrigued with the new characters of Gwen’s “real” family, her worried parents and her brother. Even if it reads a bit like he has in this book, I’m glad Hastings hasn’t forgotten that the reason readers (or at least me anyway!) are taken with Gwenpool is because we’re interested in her and her story, not to see her paired up with one established Marvel character after another.

Gwenpool’s still the best new Marvel ongoing and I’ma still sticking with it but don’t expect much from this third volume.

A mixed bag of great and not so great stories. The Arcade 2 parter is fantastic. I can't think of a better setting for a meta character. I also like in her team-up with Kate Bishop who she kept referring to Kate as the better Hawkeye. The Holiday Special was a piece of garbage. Only the first 10 pages or so were about Gwen. It does go to show you how terrible of a writer Ryan North is. He writes the story immediately following Christopher Hastings and it's just awful.

Gwenpool remains extremely entertaining.

I really liked this volume because it throws all the rules out and goes full Meta, even more so than the past. This time we have a lot of special guest. The biggest story here is Gwenpool going into a cave that becomes a RPG style DnD style game. Who's the main boss though? None other than the vicious DEADPOOL. And Gwenpool has met her match because she doesn't read Deadpool!

Good: Loved the dialog between Gwenpool and Deadpool, made me laugh so much. I love the side characters in here a lot. The 2nd story is just as crazy and dumb with Hawkeye and Ghost rider coming into the adventures of Gwenpool and worked well.

Bad: The christmas special was really meh and not needed in this collection. I also thought some of the art suffered in this volume, especially the 2nd half.

Overall this is a lot of fun. It's not mindblowing or anything but if you want to sit back and laugh, Gwenpool will do that. A 3.5 out of 5.

Consistently OK, with a few really funny lines scattered throughout. I'm intrigued by the ending, though...

Gwenpool, not to be confused with Deadpool or Stacy, is back for another round of adventures. The dialog is witty, the writing is clever, and the tone is good-natured and light-hearted. I didn't think the art was as good as the first volume, but it's serviceable. It's a fun book, not especially memorable, but nice like a warm chocolate chip cookie

You knew Gwen was going to encounter Deadpool sooner or later, right? Fortunately, it doesn't disappoint. "A fellow fourth wall breaker! How fun!" The battle with Arcade and the Christmas special--especially the Red Skull story--were the high points of this volume for me. I don't hate the other stories--I rather liked the Buffy references in the Blade story, even. They just didn't grab me as much. The Ghost Rider story got a bit tedious, though this new development with Cecil seems promising. Anyway, this series is still mad fun. Recommended!

THIS IS MY FAVORITE VOLUME OF GWENPOOL SO FAR totally excluding the holiday special at the end which was garbage!

Pros:
-Hastings's writing is wonderful, even though each issue is a totally different story instead of the usual full arc
-Gurihiru is the best artist team in the business
-everything is still ridiculous but hilarious
-the cameos in this one include: Blade, Robbie freaking Reyes, Kate Bishop, and DEADPOOL
-need I say more?

Cons:
-the entire "holiday special" was cringey and painful because it was written by Ryan North and everything about it sucked
-there were 1 or 2 issues where other artists were used

So this would have been a 5 star rating but the last issue really ruined it. If it wasn't in there, then this would be a perfect volume. But if you want to laugh, you should definitely pick this up.

[Read as single issues]
Considering Gwenpool was created as a joke character, we're three volumes into the series now and I cannot stop telling people how much I love her. These issues are a little more zany in terms of story compared to the more heavy duty storytelling in the previous (and following) arc, but that doesn't mean they're not a great addition to the character.

First we get another look at how Gwen's 'power' of comic book knowledge comes in handy as she, her friends from MODOK, and Deadpool (because of course) get trapped in Murderworld by Arcade, before Gwen heads to LA and teams up with Robbie Reyes and Kate Bishop to beat up some dwarves with a body-swapping device. Toldya, crazy.

Series artists Gurihiru pencil most of the issues here, with newcomer (?) Myisha Haynes taking the Ghost Rider/Hawkeye story. They're all bright and easy on the eye, but Gurihiru is especially good at capturing the little moments where Gwen's facade of comic book indifference cracks and we can see through to her vulnerability underneath.

I am not ashamed to say that I love Gwenpool, and you should too.

The first half was really good. Lots of fun and great cameos/ team ups, but the last couple of chapters were pretty pointless. The last chapters revolved around different holiday traditions, and by different I mean made up. It was pretty boring stuff that I found myself skimming it, especially since it had nothing to do with what seems to be a developing story line. I liked that for a second it was getting kind of serious, but to see that all dropped for pointless, random chapters was like, "come on!." So definitely not the best volume, but hoping for better with the next one!

Wacky, meta fun and possibly the best volume so far. This series always delivers a delightful range of cameos, and that trend does not stop here. Additionally, one of the central stories - laden with references to traditional RPG games - is just kind of amazing. Plus - Gwenpool meets the one character I've most waited for her to encounter, and it's just about everything I could have hoped for. Hijinks, hilarity, and heart - I love this series.

Postscript - the holiday special mashup was hit and miss over its relatively short span. Parts were still pretty great, parts were just kind of weird, and the Red Skull episode basically missed the mark entirely. But I've learned to only expect so much from guest writers and special episodes so, disregarding the faults of the holiday stories, this volume is pretty great.

I'm not a Deadpool comics fan. But Gwenpool surprises me pretty much every time and this book was no exception. Sure the Christmas story in the end was a lot weaker and had a lot less Gwenpool. But even it wasn't all bad. The writing and art are silly but in a working way. And Gwen taking charge on the dungeon crawl was actually pretty good. Heck the 4th wall conversation with Deadpool was even good. The side adventure with Hawkeye and Ghost Rider shouldn't have worked but it captured the spirit of both characters. Just a fun book.

Unbelievable Gwenpool used to be my palette cleanser between books, but no longer! This volume was an unbelievable waste of time.

Gwen’s stories used to be on the fluffier and wackier side, but they still made sense and served a greater purpose: to flesh out Gwenpool’s understanding of herself in a comic book universe, her “powers,” and the limits of her recklessness. But here, the one-off adventures feel aimless, uninspired, and uninteresting. Gwen goes to a town to take care of a vampire, and she and her MODOK gang are caught in a DnD-type dungeon hosted by a villain who jumped right out of a mid-90’s video game.

In my review of volume two, I mentioned that Gwen works better with a foil – her chemistry with Miles Morales was off the charts. But she’s clearly outgrown her makeshift team. She does get one brief scene with Deadpool, the other uber-violent, fourth wall breaking Marvel antihero. They trade a few good barbs, but the team up is far too short, and doesn’t have a satisfying conclusion.

Usually series regular artist team Gurihiru is the saving grace when Gwenpool’s story is lacking. But they’re only on part of one issue – Gwen notices when the art changes, which is cute, but it doesn’t excuse the fact that the other artists are absolutely terrible. Possibly the worst I’ve seen out of Marvel. Haynes’ inconsistent and sloppy faces, Gumby-esque bodies, and thick cartoonish borders were just so bad. Firmansyah was moderately better but not enough to save it. Rosenberg’s colors are flat and dull, which doesn’t help at all. Not even an issue with MY GIRL KATE BISHOP could get me to finish this, the art was so bad.

Didn’t make it through the holiday special, either. A ghost Hitler was basically all I needed to see from that issue to be like NOPE.

Ugh. If this is “totally in continuity” I’m done with this Gwenpool series. I’ll be skipping right to Gwenpool Strikes Back, jumping after West Coast Avengers, and hoping it’s marginally better than this one.

A huge step down for Gwenpool.

There's a Gwen, Better Hawkeye, and Ghost Rider team-up (#14-15) that's almost up to the standards of the previous volumes. It's funny, it's irreverent, and it's got great (funny) characterization for our guest stars.

But the rest of the stories in this are sub-standard.

A Blade and undead comic (#11) is pretty much built on one joke. A D&D comic (#12-13) is better, as it gets to do some deconstruction of fantasy roleplaying, but it's still too scant in its funny. Then we get a Holiday Special that really drags the collection down as it varies between slightly funny and too dull to read.

However, the main comic did seem to be on an uptrend throughout this volume, so I'm hope that V4 will be returning to Gwenpool's strengths.

I don't know... it becomes more over the top than it needs to be. Also what is up with creativity these days? Comic books were the source of unique stuff and now every new character that we get is focused on these damn cross-overs. I mean, come on! Just stop with these Moraleses, Ghost Riders...
With that said, I loved the two issues that were a parody of fantasy games. Even the crossover cameo was put in nicely.

This is the best issue so far as she finds her footing as a character in the world and the other characters who are not crossover characters get fleshed out. It definitely helps that I recognize almost everyone who shows up from another comic and get most of the jokes about them. Otherwise this might be pretty hard to read.

Five stars for a more entertaining RPG scenario than Ready Player One, particularly for making Deadpool a secondary character in another fourth-wall breaking book. And another fifth star for working on pathos and character development. And another fifth star for the Christmas collection at the end.

The first half of this volume with arcade was great and was a bit underwhelmed by the LA storyline but loved Kate there. The holiday special was a bit rough for me and holds this volume back a bit for me. But that’s just me, just a slight misstep in the run but good overall. Again if we have half stars this would be a 3 and a Half. 3 feels too low but 4 feels too high. Also Hastings writes a pretty good Deadpool too

A good mix of stories. Art is a mix of ok to great, aka Gurihiru's section. It's still funny and this volume had more crossovers made for some fun stories. The Christmas issue was the weak link story here but still worth a read. If you liked the other volumes this one is also recommended.

Stories: 3.5/5
Art: 3.5/5

Overall: 3.5/5

Wild fun. Nearly impossible not to crack a smile or even laugh out loud from time to time. The Deadpool team-up was particularly amusing. I loved both of them trying to reason out why they would win the fight based on comic sales and fan interest. All of that, plus this book included a Hawkeye (Kate Bishop) and Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes) team-up! It was the book that just kept on giving. Especially during the wacky Christmas issue. That one was particularly fun. (Minus Ghost Hitler which was just uncomfortable.) All in all, a page-turner of a fun read.

Without a shred of doubt Gwenpool In this third volume is still a pretty solid comedy comic.

RCO016_1487178041

The first number is quite funny, Gwen decides that in order to distract from her existential problems she would look for more complicated jobs at the degree of "suicidal" and this is how she arrives to a ghost town in the desert "Doodkill"; loaded with garlic, wooden stakes, silver bullets and stuff like that to exterminate a vampire who seems to be bothering people.

The second arc is also quite fun! "THE FIRST CROSSOVER BETWEEN GWEN AND DEAD POOL" Basically here in their pursue for new paid missions Mega Tony and Gwen enter in a world similar to Dungeons and Dragons, where they have to overcome very cool challenges just like in the role-playing game, then in the dungeon they find the complete team of Agents of M.O.D.O.K. (who were on the same place to earn some money since Gwen screw things up in the agency BTW...)
And theteam is complete! having the healer, the witch, the warrior and Gwen!
RCO018_w_1487178041

The third arc was the worst but it is not bad, the purpose is to bring Cesil back to the world of the living, and the idea is to bring a triple crossover being assembled with Ghost Rider and Kate Bishop and in the end they return to Cecil in a rather peculiar way.

And in the end they leave us with a very interesting cliffhanger.

So, I see this has some mixed reviews over on GoodReads, but I'm really enjoying this series! The art is bold, bright, colourful and well drawn. The writing is freaking hilarious. This series is just so laugh out loud hilarious, and entertaining right from the first page. It's genuinely hilarious and never fails to crack me up and make me chuckle.

In this volume, Gwen gets her Buffy on as she faces off against a Vampire to save some sassy Skeletons and a Necromancer. Then she's thrown in to a fantasy game setting and RPG references and jokes abound as she teams up with some familiar faces to fight her way out. It gets all SAO/Elder Scrolls, I'm not going to lie. Just without the virtual reality of SAO. Then we get some The Hobbit vibes as Gwen has to take down a ring of Dwarves up to no good after busting out of prison.

There's some brilliant cameo's in this volume for you guys to look forward to! Not just characters we've seen in the series before, but Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), Ghost Rider and....the character we've all been waiting for. Yep. We finally get that face off, I was a bit worried about said character at the beginning, he looked like he was trying to cosplay Robin Hood very badly, and was getting way to in to his role as 'The Unkillable Beast", the description of this, when paired with the knowledge that it's this specific character...completely slayed me.

There's also some nice little Easter Eggs as well as cameo's throughout this volume, for instance, you might want to have a close look at Big Ronnie's shelves....

Gwenpool is fast becoming one of my favourites, she's snarktacular and sarcastic...it's brilliant! She breaks the fourth wall perfectly, and throws out references left, right and centre that you can understand and relate to. Like she's probably all of us when put in her position, let's be real. I actually find her to be fairly relatable because of her nerdy knowledge.

The story is moving in an interesting direction if the cliffhanger ending is anything to go by and things might be able to take a turn for the serious...sort of. It probably won't get too serious let's be honest but you'll see what I mean if you read the volume!

The Christmas Special is also included in this volume and Christmas is all wrong, to the extent that we have some greats like "I Saw Spidey Kissing Galactus" which I found hilarious, Pantsgiving I was a bit eeeeehhh about and Red Skull going all A Christmas Carol gave me pause too. Like it was wacky but I wasn't entirely in to it, I'm not going to lie! Still, it was nice of them to include it, right?!

If you haven't checked out Gwenpool yet you're missing out on a hilariously wild ride, populated with familiar faces and the guest stars as it where, don't take away from Gwen or her story, the plot still focuses on Gwen which is nice to see!

Issue #11:
the art is unfortunately a real lowlight. looks like unfinished storyboards for a pixar film. blade's outfit in particular is disappointingly bland and even gwen looks strange. issue #11 isn't very good.

Issue #12-13:
deadpool being "the unkillable beast" in a medieval dungeon is cool. nice to see the two pools together, I like gwenpool's meta jokes about the similarities between (and superiority of) her character and/versus Deadpool. they have an entertaining fight, too. Peter Parker being drawn like he's from Calvin and Hobbes is a tad offputting, but it's a nice little cameo.

Issue #14:
adds some more fun back into this volume of the comic with appearances from Ghost Rider and Kate Bishop, but still has some fairly unimpressive, disappointing art. interesting ending with the appearance of gwen's parents.

Issue #15:
best issue of this batch. back to interesting story arcs and away from side gigs, though still with some lackluster art, I like where this one ends and I'm interested in what it's teasing. I also like how Cecil gets his redemption. Pretty good stuff.

Overall, I think this volume is probably the weakest of the bunch. While Volume 1 had Issue #0 with the forgettable Howard stuff, the rest was very enjoyable, crucial to the overarching plot, and made me wanna keep reading throughout. I can't really say the same about this volume, which gets good in the last few issues but has too many misses to be on the same level as previous volumes.

I'm reading this issue-by-issue digitally, so I didn't have the pleasure of reading the apparently terrible holiday special stuff that is supposedly bundled with this volume. lucky me

3.5 Stars.
The hijinks from every issue of Gwenpool are here in abundance, but this time, the guest stars take a bit of the spotlight away from Gwen. First, Gwen takes a job to track down a vampire to help a small village. She didn't know that the village was populated by a Necromancer and revived dead, and that the vampire she was supposed to track was Blade!
Next, she wakes, along with her M.O.D.O.K. friends, in an Arcade deathtrap. This one is structured like D&D (which creates some really hilarious situations for me) and their mission is to take out "the Beast". What will Gwen do when "the Beast" is none other than Deadpool himself? LOL let the chaos and the rampant 4th wall breaking begin!
One last M.O.D.O.K. friend to help, ghost Cecil sends Gwen to Nedavellir, seeking a magic gem that can house a soul. Who would be best to help in this situation? LOL Hawkeye (Kate) and All-New Ghost Rider!
To finish out the Volume, we have a crazy Christmas issue where Galactus has taken the place of Santa Claus....

The craziness of this title never lets up, but I wish there was more about where Gwen actually comes from. A little substance in the midst of comedy. Recommend nonetheless.
