Julia Justiss grew up breathing the scent of sea air near the colonial town of Annapolis, Maryland, a fact responsible for two of her life-long passions: sailors and history! By age twelve she was a junior tour guide for Historic Annapolis, conducting visitors on walking tours through the city that was a hotbed of revolutionary fervor. (Annapolis hosted its own tea party, dispensing with the cargo aboard the "Peggy Stewart," and was briefly capital of the United States.) She also took tourists through Annapolis's other big attraction, the United States Naval Academy. After so many years of observing future naval officers at P-rade and chapel, it seemed almost inevitable that she eventually married one.

But long before embarking on romantic adventures of her own, she read about them, transporting herself to such favorite venues as ancient Egypt, World War II submarine patrols, the Old South and, of course, Regency England. Soon she was keeping notebooks for jotting down story ideas. From plotting adventures for her first favorite heroine Nancy Drew she went on to write poetry in high school and college, then worked as a business journalist doing speeches, sales promotion material and newsletter articles. After her marriage to a naval lieutenant took her overseas, she wrote the newsletter for the American Embassy in Tunis, Tunisia and traveled extensively throughout Europe. Before leaving Tunis, she fulfilled her first goal: completing a Regency novel.

Children intervened, and not until her husband left the Navy to return to his Texas homeland did she sit down to pen a second novel. The reply to her fan mail letter to a Regency author led her to Romance Writers of America. From the very first meeting, she knew she'd found a home among fellow writers--doubtless the largest group of people outside a mental institution who talk back to the voices in their heads.

Her second goal was achieved the day before her birthday in May, 1998 when Margaret Marbury of Harlequin Historicals offered to buy that second book, the Golden-Heart-Award winning novel that became THE WEDDING GAMBLE. Since then, she has gone on to write fourteen novels, three novellas and an on-line serial, along the way winning or finalling for historical awards from The Golden Quill, the National Reader’s Choice, Romantic Times, and All About Romance’s Favorite Book of the Year.

Julia now inhabits an English Georgian-style house she and her husband built in the East Texas countryside where, if she closes her eyes and ignores the summer thermometer, she can almost imagine she inhabits the landscape of "Pride and Prejudice." In between travelling to visit her three children (a naval officer son stationed in Washington, DC, a textiles and design major daughter who cheers for University of Texas at Austin, and a mechanical engineering major son also at UT Austin) keeping up with her science teacher husband and juggling a part-time day job as a high school French teacher, she pursues her first and dearest love--crafting stories.

To relax, she enjoys watching movies, reading (historical fiction, mystery, suspense) and puttering about in the garden trying to kill off more weeds than flowers.

Forbidden Nights with the Viscount by Julia Justiss is a 2016 Harlequin Historical publication. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The topic of this book comes at a timely fashion, since many of us have politics in our minds at the moment. In this case, the author explores the notorious opposition between the Tories and the Whigs.

The intelligent and beautiful Lady Margaret supports her father’s Tory party and her hosting duties have not gone unnoticed. She enjoys her role, which keeps her busy and her mind off the tragic loss of her husband. She has no intention of remarrying, but feels restless. The chance meeting with a political rival, Giles Hadley, awakens Margaret’s senses, which have lain dormant for far too long.

Giles is a Viscount, who will eventually inherit his father’s title, but, doesn’t believe marriage is for him due to the immense scandal surrounding his parent’s marriage, which was very sad. However, when the Lady Margaret suggests they enter into a liaison, Giles finds himself rethinking his position on that subject.

However, Giles’ half-brother is more suited to Lady Margaret due to their like-minded political stance, and he is aggressively pursuing her. Can Giles win the lady’s heart despite their differences? Can he convince her their torrid affair has deeper possibilities?

This story starts off on a slightly humorous and charming note, with the sudden and unexpected introduction Giles and Margaret have to one another, and the instant sparks that fly between them. I loved Margaret’s attitude and her refusal to obey certain protocol when it came to entering into a dalliance with Giles. She knew what she wanted and she pursued it, while most ladies in this time period would never have even entertained such a thought. Although, Margaret is a delightful and gregarious character, in the beginning she has an aura of sadness surrounding her. However, Giles will soon have her feeling the strength to heal and will give her a reason to want to move forward at long last.

Giles’ story was very sad, indeed, and I was happy to see him finally receive the validation he deserves. It was so fun watching him react to Margaret and seeing him fall completely under her spell. He never knew what hit him.

Often times I find that in the beginning of a book, I struggle with one or sometimes both the protagonist, but in this case, I loved them both immediately and only grew to like them more as the story progressed. However, this story has a bit of a bite to it, with a romantic suspense element tossed into the mix. I found myself holding my breath as things got a little intense a time or two.

I don’t know if it was just me, but I think this story is just a little saucier that some I’ve read from this author, but I thought it worked in this case because we aren’t dealing with an innocent virgin, but with two consenting adults who agree to a ‘no strings attached’ arrangement. However, the tension does build a little at a time, tantalizing and teasing the reader.

Overall, this an easy read, moving at a steady pace, with a few heart pounding moments, and a healing and heartwarming family side story, and of course the unlikely romance between two people with opposing views who wind up falling in love, giving us a sweet and spicy romance that will leave you smiling at the end.

Secrets can be fun. Maggie is not looking for a second chance at love. With some coaxing from her aunt, she is looking for some pleasure. Giles feels that he does not deserve love but will not turn down a tempting offer. Secret trysts become more amid danger. I enjoyed this story very much and recommend it as a fun read.

This is a worthy story. Well-intentioned H&h. Writing style a little pedestrian, and some deep-seated silliness on the part of the H. But there's little really to take exception to. (Or love.)

This book was the first that I have ever read by Ms Julia Justiss and may I just say she does historical romance the right way.
Maggie is a widow with a turbulent past when it comes to men so when she meets Giles and her attraction is immediate she debates if he is worth it. Maggie is a strong heroine who will definitely not cower away while her man takes care of everything, which in my opinion made the book quite a bit more enjoyable then the historical's where the women swoon at every little thing.
Giles is a man with a cursory title of viscount but Giles rejects his upbringing due to his father pushing his mother and him out of the house when he was young. Now when his half brother George starts to set his sights on Maggie will he be willing to finally accept his position?
This was a great historical romance that at times seemed a little drawn out but was definitely worth it in the long run. This was a great political romance story that draws you in.

Giles is a “Radical” politician. He believes there are new ideas coming to England and he wants to be one of the people who make those new ideas into reality. He will become an Earl eventually but goes by the name Giles Hadley. He has been estranged from his father since he was a child. Everything he has accomplished has been by his own intelligence, talents and determination.

Lady Margaret is the widowed daughter of a very conservative member of the House of Lords. She acts as his hostess, campaigns for candidates and generally is a very involved political woman. At a time when women were considered chattel, she is a very forward thinking woman.

When these two people meet, there is an immediate connection. They are physically attracted to one another, but they also are very happy to find someone with whom to share ideas. Even if they are on different sides of issues, they enjoy the discussions.

Both Lady Margaret and Giles are terrific characters. Their intelligence and shared sense of humor create wonderful conversations. They are honorable people who start an affair which could harm both of them politically as well as personally. But the attraction is too strong to ignore.

This book brings the political atmosphere to life. It also shows that even in the 19th century, some politicians could be self involved jerks. The plot is well developed as well as informative.

The secondary characters add to the texture of the story. Each of them bring some story development and some humor to the book.

Ms Justiss is a very talented author who writes a book which holds the reader's interest as well as entertains the reader. In this book, the only thing I would have liked would be more development of the political side of the story.

This plot of this book is different. I liked that. There is a slight mystery which comes up toward the end of the book. I liked that. The dialog between Giles and Maggie is very entertaining. I liked that.

I liked this book very much.

I received this book from the author in the hope I would write a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

Yep, I just think Julia Justiss truly has a gift. She’s one of the few authors I dare compare to the actual classic writers of those times. I love her poetic voice and writing style.

Lady Margaret Roberts and Viscount Giles Hadley meet while canvassing for opposing political parties in 1832 England. Hadley has personal and humanitarian reasons as to why he wants the power to be transferred to the common people while Maggie supports the idea that an uneducated man should not vote on issues he’s not familiar with. The dialogue about political issues felt honest and was never boring and had I been to rallies held by either one I could’ve been swayed to either party at any given time. I’m not too fond of stories with a political subplot but here it worked perfectly, and it actually helped the plot move along nicely when it was necessary.

Maggie is not in the marked for marriage or everlasting love as she’s known it before. In fact, the last thing she wants is to fall in love again because the love of her life died in a terrible accident and she doesn’t want to suffer another loss. She may be a widow but she still has a reputation to think of however the more she knows about Giles the more she wants to be with him, in more ways than she’s willing to accept. And of course Giles, being the loving man that he is, does everything in his power to make sure Maggie is loved in every way possible. Their friendship is palpable through their dialogue as well as their actions so kudos to Julia for giving me the "show" instead of the "tell."

There was enough sexual tension that never bordered on the unbelievable. The main characters were charming and smart and witty and I just loved that the hero was never over powering or over protective, he was just a normal man trying to do something good with his life. The whole book was just great and I’m giving it 5 stars because I just loved it so =D

While campaigning for her cousin’s elections, Lady Margaret Roberts is caught in the middle of a brouhaha and rescued by a handsome man with the most beautiful blue eyes. Maggie has been a widow and never intends to fall in love again, however that does not preclude a dalliance of some sort, especially with someone like the man with the unforgettable eyes. Giles Hadley detests his title of Viscount of Lyndlington; his family’s history is quite complicated and his relationship with his half-brother George Hadley is extremely tense. Giles feels immediately drawn to the lovely widow, but upon hearing that George might be asking for her hand, Giles is determined to find out more, particularly after Giles and Maggie have met several times, not so accidentally.

Ms. Justiss takes her historical facts very seriously, and the Whig-Tory rivalry as well as the Reform form the background for the romance in FORBIDDEN NIGHTS WITH THE VISCOUNT. Although the political angle is particularly interesting, I felt there was a bit too much to my taste. Amidst the political intrigue, there is much tiptoeing around the eventual affair between Maggie and Giles while frissons of anticipation hover around them, and flirtatious banter abound. I was particularly impressed with how accurately the author describes that feeling of infatuation, of slowly falling under the sensual spell of another. Julia Justiss’ prose is sublime, as usual, the dialogues are witty, and the characters are realistic and well fleshed out. There are also a few quite sizzling sex scenes, which proves that sometimes politics and sex do make good bedfellows.

Giles and Maggie are from opposing political parties. Giles is a Radical wanting equal rights for all, marriage only when both parties want it and no more titles. Maggie wants titles and property to be governed by those who have held the title and generations that worked at keeping it that way. She also believes that reform is bad. Giles has been estranged from his father since he was five and thought it was his father's doing. That hurt has lead him to most of his beliefs in politics. Now he meets Maggie and the connection is instant, but will he get what he wants or find something more? Maggie married her childhood friend and love only to lose him. She then has an engagement that was broken. Now encountering Giles has given her new thoughts and challenges to think on and leaves her to wonder if she will do what is right or get more than she bargained for.

This is an amazing, brilliant and compelling story full of complex characters and a mystery to boot. I had a hard time putting it down to work or finish household items. You will fall in love with ALL the characters even the secondary ones.

This is the first book in the new series Hadley's Hellions.
Giles is estranged from his father for most of his life, and harass by his brother. He doesn't want to take over for his father after his demised. He enjoys his radical political views as equal rights for all. Maggie likes political views as titles and lands stay as they are, she helps her father in his political views.
Maggie husband passes away and she doesn't want to go through that heartbreak again. Giles doesn't want to marry, based on way his father treated his mother. Yet when there is a scuffle at a voting area, it is Giles who comes to her rescue. They have instant connection, but know they are of different class. She's a lady and he's a bastard.
Giles brother has his sites on Maggie and tell Giles he is to leave her alone. Giles meets Maggie and lets her know about his brother attention, she tells him she has turned him down.
Maggie ask Giles to have an affair, during which they find out more about each other. She points out to Giles he can't let the people down once his father passes.
Well written story each page allows to see their up and downs and love wins out in the end. Can't wait for the next book.

Giles and Maggie meet at a political rally, each on opposing sides, but each finds a very strong attraction to the other.
Giles seeks her out to see if the rumors are true and that she is interested in his brother, whom he dispises.
Giles is the reluctant heir to an earldom. He wants nothing to do with it since his father threw him and his mother out when he was just a boy.
His political point of view stems from this mistreatment and now he is very much opposed to land owners having all the say in the government.
Maggie is on the opposite party but she is a very smart woman. She knows that allies can be found in the oddest places. Giles rescues her from a rowdy crowd. Hero sits on Giles shoulders very well I think.

This story is the first in a new series by Julia Justiss, one of my favorite authors! Her style of writing is very pleasing and flows beautifully. Descriptions are not too long, but allow for your own interpretation, I really appreciate that!

Maggie and Giles were one of the best-matched couples that I have come across in the genre. Maturity, intelligence, and respect for differing political interests during the early days of the Reform Movement guaranteed stimulating encounters sprinkled heavily with a sexual attraction that felt natural and easy. And I sure did enjoy their lusty affair! I was impressed, too, with how they each helped the other to reconsider seemingly insurmountable personal hurdles, proving that the right person can soften a hardened or scarred heart.

The political backdrop turned out to be an informative history lesson about Whigs and Tories (not at all off-putting) and a fresh and welcome change from the typical social ballroom setting. If you feel that mental connection and mutual respect are powerful aphrodisiacs, then you will not want to miss this 4-star read.

Regency historical . First in a series .
Giles father an Earl discarded him and his mother when his mother told the Earl she was in love with the Earls best friend and they had a night together .
Giles was brought up in parliament with seeing Reforms for the common people . A few days before the vote he traveled to a region in England to help the reform party with moral support . There he meet Lady Margaret( her father was a Marquess ) . There was a truffle on the street and Giles saved her. They went to a coffee house and started talking . Then Giles found out that his half brother had planes for Lady Margaret . Thing is Giles wanted her .
Lady Margaret wanted Giles also but she advised that he needs to make aments with his father the Earl . A few days later out at Lady Margarets father estate shots ran out . And She was grazed .
Who shot out??? Who was the intended victim ??? Did Giles make up with his father ???

I was given a copy of Forbidden Nights with the Viscount for a fair and honest review.

Julia Justiss is a creative, authentic author. This is the first in the Hadley's Hellions series, Giles and Maggie's story. Giles and Maggie are from different political parties but the chemistry sparks between them. Maggie is a widow who loved her husband very much and doesn't want another love to break her heart. Giles is the estranged son of the Earl of Telbridge and after his parents' disastrous marriage has sworn off the institution. Together they learn to overcome the obstacles and trust issues to find a true love.

It was nice to read a historical romance with an interesting plot, this was a time of great upheaval in British Politics. I loved the characters of Giles and Maggie and the chemistry between the pair. This was the first book I have read by this author but I don't think it will be the last.

I have read several of Julia Justiss's books and have always enjoyed them. This book was no exception.
Though both characters were from different political parties they still made a very good couple. I think this was a great start to a new series. I liked how easy it was to read - always kept you turning the page. I would recommend this book.

Good read. The hero is one of a group of reformers in early 19th century England who are in Parliament trying to pass the first part of the Reform Bill to get rid of "rotten boroughs" and redistrict England. He's the heir to nobility, but his father kicked his mother and him out when he learned she loved someone else, even going so far as to divorce her. Anyway, he meets the heroine by rescuing her at a rowdy campaign event for the opposite party (her father's) and they hit it off immediately. Then his half-brother, who's always been jealous of him for being the heir (they were raised apart and little brother is Very spoiled), confronts him and tells him to stay away from the heroine, revealing he's had her watched. Hero goes to warn her, and heroine, after a few other encounters, invites him to an affair. She is a widow who was very much in love with her late husband, so she doesn't want to remarry or fall in love again. They plunge deep into the affair very quickly, but of course, things never go as smoothly as one hopes. Little brother causes problems and the heroine keeps pushing the hero to reconcile with the father he's avoided. It's a good story and I liked it.

I enjoyed the book, Forbidden Nights with the Viscount, by Julia Justiss. This book is the first book in the Hadley's Hellions series. It tells the story of Giles Hadley and Maggie Roberts in London 1831. When Giles, A.K.A leader of the Hellions/the infamous Viscount Lyndlington and Lady Margaret Roberts, widowed daughter of the Marquess of Witlow, meet, sparks flare between them. Maggie invites Giles to become her lover, and thus their secret liaison begins. Giles's half brother, George, is far from happy when Maggie rejects his advances and he threatens retribution. It takes learning the truth about his mother's love and the earl's heartache for Giles to free himself from the past and allow him to recognize a love of his own. This book was entertaining and now I'm interesting in reading the other books in this series.

Opposites attract Lady Margaret Roberts is a widow, she works with her father as his hostess, Giles Hadley, estranged from his family, is from the opposite end of the political spectrum but when both of them meet they're quite attracted.  There are a number of problems getting in their way, not least of which is his brother who wants her as a wife.

They engage in an affair and it becomes steamy (they're quite careful and it's well done) the two become very entangled but can he convince her to become his wife.  When a shot barely misses her things get more serious.

I really liked this story, the characters were well drawn and interesting in their adult behaviour.

I like Giles and Margaret's romance, but was a little bored by the politics. I was happy that the author took a different road with the father and son[s] trope, I was impressed. I also like that Lady Margaret and her father were close and loving, it was good to read about a heroine with a happy family relationship.

Giles Hadley doesn't want a relationship with his father. His sire turned his back on his son. He divorced his mother and forced them to live in isolation. Giles has worked hard to show society that he's worthy of respect. Now he's working tirelessly to make sure the Reform bill passes. He has no time for distraction. When he meets Lady Margaret while campaigning, he's attracted to her. She's lovely, well connected and politically astute. Unfortunately she supports the wrong party. However, Giles is bewitched as is the Lady. Their flirtation is powerful. It's not just lust that draws them together. They connect on many levels. What does the future hold? I was drawn into this amazing love story. Lady Margaret is an intelligent woman who is knowledgeable about politics and human nature. I loved that her character is strong and that she's her own woman. I didn't want her to be a wilting flower. Giles hides his pain by being deeply involved in politics. He trusts Lady Margaret and knows that he can open his heart to her. They are a perfect fit. They complete each other. However, their past keeps them apart. I was drawn into their romance. I cared about them. Julia Justiss wrote a complex story that had it all. There was love, forgiveness and healing. This book was amazing. I fell in love with this couple. I wanted them to get their HEA. I am looking forward to the next Hadley's Hellions story.

The beginning of another great series from Julia Justiss. This is the story of a young wife who loses the love of her life in a carriage accident. She is devastated at the loss of her husband and knows that she never find anyone to replace him in her heart. She decides to become her father's political hostess for the Tories and help his cause. Lady Margaret is a superb political hostess and has found an outlet for the passion she denies herself.

Giles Hadley is a Whig who has been fighting for reform and getting his parties Reform Bill passed into Law.
He has no interest in getting married after his father divorced his mother for infidelity. He has no interest in Love but Lust is a different matter, and when he meets Lady Margaret the electricity that sparks between them is immediate and shocking.

He decides to pursue an affair with her and is floored when she is the one who suggests an affair.

Julia writes a beautiful love story with really steamy sex. I loved both these characters. They are both afraid of falling in love, but no matter how they try to avoid it, well you know. Add Giles's step brother who is jealous of them and a will stop at nothing to tear them apart. This is a lovely story that will make you happy and inpatient for the next book in The Hadley's Hellions Series.

Julia has a knack of writing History that comes out as Romance. Her writing flows and gives us a smooth story line that her characters pop out at you. Giles has a very different life growing up. Spoiler. His aunt and uncle raised him to go to school. Lady Margaret or Maggie lives with her father and is hostess to his political parties. She runs into Giles at a political rally. She knows that Giles has a half brother that is estranged and George wants to marry Maggie for her dowry. Spoiler. Maggie always refuses to marry. She lost her first love and doesn't want to marry again. This is a busy book. Maggie is a Whig and Giles is a Tory. They discuss a lot. George still pesters Maggie and lies about Giles who will inherit the Earl of Telbridge seat. There are small spoilers all over this story. There are warning shots, bedroom practice and worrying about how to keep up an Estate. This is a quick story and I would say that it is a mature read. I liked this story. It's a good read and grab tissues. Please don't let this book get away. Enjoy your reading! I have this book for an honest review for NetGalley.

What a page-turner to start this new series! I enjoyed every moment of this passionate, clever, and poignant tale. Thank goodness I started it the night before my day off as I was reading it well into the night. Maggie and Giles intrigued me from the first. A heart-broken woman with a mind for politics, a talent for knowing her own mind, and the intelligence and smarts to go after what she wants. A man with a fervor for justice, a lust for life, bedroom skills that would leave any woman begging for more and enough self-confidence to allow a woman to express her opinions without dismissing them. There is so much to love about this novel. These two enter into an affair with such a sensible take on the entire adventure and it works well for them until love sneaks up on them. Then all bets are off. Giles has had such a terrible load of guilt to carry and Maggie makes every effort to help him confront those ghosts in his family that need to be put to rest. Add to that a threat to Maggie's life and family and friends who insist on "helping" and this is a deeply passionate, very real, and very satisfying love story. Can't wait for the next one in the series!

There is passion, delicately handled. There is some violence, referred to but not graphically detailed. There are some 'ugly confrontations' (required by the plotline) but no foul language. The gentleman handled his tense encounters with class and dignity. The world would be a better place if we had more gentlemen like Giles.

Lady Margaret was a widow who still grieved for her husband. Viscount Hadley felt he didn't deserve to be loved. They supported opposing political parties. They shouldn't have met, but they did. They shouldn't have courted scandal but they did. What happened next made for a gentle story, laced with passion, mystery, a bit of danger, a taste of scandal, and a gentle fall of hearts.
