When a friend is wrongly convicted, Deputy Marshal Mason Raines must take his place in a gunfighting competition unlike any other. To survive, he must overcome a handful of unique shooting challenges, each with deadly consequences. As Mason defeats one ruthless competitor after another, he begins to question not only the brutality of the competition but also the guilt of its competitors.
Meanwhile, Tanner and Samantha embark on a cross-country journey to find Issa. Along the way, they take up the cause of a cantankerous old nun searching for her missing sisters. Their journey leads them to a sadistic doctor specializing in eugenics, and an abandoned children's insane asylum with a dark inhabitant.
Only a handful of miles away, Issa leads a band of infected misfits on a bold rescue mission. While attempting to overcome a community of violent slavers, tragedy strikes, and she is forced accept that the fight cannot be won. Trapped and outnumbered, Issa and those in her charge begin to wonder if there is any hope of escape.
Events have made me who I am, neither a hardcore survivalist nor an all-trusting soul. I am a Boy Scout in the truest sense of the word—dedicated to family, country, and good citizenship. As you may already know, an enabling element of those ideals is being prepared.
It took the horrific events of 9/11 to wake me from my routine complacency. In one single moment, I came to realize that our world is not as safe as we would all like to believe. We have no guarantee of safety in this world. Disasters occur on an almost daily basis all around the globe. Major events in recent years have included the devastating tsunamis striking Japan and the coast of Sumatra, the rash of tornadoes that swept across the U.S. in 2011, Hurricane Katrina, the deadly earthquake in Haiti, and the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico to name just a few.
I believe with all my heart that we have a duty to prepare our families for the dangers they face. I started my preparation by reading nearly every disaster preparedness book currently available. If you check Amazon, you will see that I am the #1 reviewer for many of these books. Even with all the material out there, I could not find a single book that offered a complete, well-reasoned approach to practical preparedness. As a NASA engineer, I took up the challenge by conducting very careful research – disecting fact from folklore. Three years and many thousands of dollars later, I have finally released a handbook that offers well-researched advice that can be put into practice in the real world by normal families.
I wrote this handbook for my own family, but I would be honored to share it with yours. If you are not fully satisfied with the Handbook to Practical Disaster Preparedness for the Family, send it back, and I’ll refund your money, no questions asked.
Continuing the saga of events for Marshall Mason Raines, events have turned against him after the incident at the farm and he seeks out someone he made contact with from the beginning of the series.
Having made his way to said person, life gets complicated as old friends and new events conspire to create a situation that just doesn't sit well with him and he is again fighting for life and justice against the baser instincts of his fellow man.
Sam and Tanner, thwarted before they can set off to find Issa have an even scarier adventure. I found this particular adventure amusing as a nun seeks help in recovering her kidnapped sisters but is constantly negative on the actions of all, that the world is a violent place and that sometimes, violence is required to survive. There were a few nice one-liners that contradicts faith speakers like:
"There's no such thing as ghosts." "What about the holy ghost?" "That's different."
There are a few amusing light hearted moments that offset the dark world events and as always, plenty of useful information that you could take from the book to use in a "real world" environment if you wanted to.
The story again is well written like many stories set in this dystopian world, shows how quickly mankind quickly falls back to a violent way of life rather than working to pick themselves up and become better, yet all is not lost as there are still a few people within this world's storyline that understand a line has to be drawn and good must lead if people are to survive.
As always, the story is well written though it seems with this book, the proofreader took a day off. The errors standout simply because of the previous books were tight and well edited.
This is an excellently written installment in The Survivalist series. The writing goes beyond dramatic story-telling. There is a high level of literary quality due to outstanding character descriptions and dialogue. The dialogue is changing in this book to show that relationship between Tanner and his adopted daughter Samantha is closer and she is maturing. Much of the enjoyment of the book comes from how well-developed the minor characters are. No matter how brief the interaction with the main characters or how few words are devoted to them, these minor characters are knowable and real but without long descriptions that would bog down the reader. I won't put in plot spoilers but it's another action-packed installment that you can trust to be a great read!
Book 9 and still fun. Well written and about a serious subject, the end of an Era,but still carrying a good message of good over evil. The people in this series are fun to read about . Maison Raines and his father are two very different people but their stories are both told with a sense of humor and love. The interplay between Tanner Raines and his adopted Daughter are one of my favorite things about the book.
I seem to be devouring these books. The adventures keep getting better and better. Arthur Bradley knows how to tell a story. I love the nicknames he gives to a lot of the minor characters. It really helps the reader visualize the characters. It's something I do often when I'm out in public or when I'm referring to my ex boyfriends. My friends love it. This book is definitely worth reading. You will enjoy it!
I love this series for the way that Arthur Bradley is able to paint a mental picture using words of characters and situations that I could never fathom in my wildest dreams. This is yet another wonderful entry to the series that will keep me coming back again and again. BUY THIS BOOK!
If a story about a post apocalyptic world can sometimes be lighthearted, then this book is it. The banter between Tanner and Samantha makes this book was reading in and of itself.
I love the imagination and great details that facilitates mental pictures.
I love the imagination and great details that facilitates mental pictures. I recommend this series for Sci-fi lovers who enjoy intelligent reads to consider Dr. Bradley.

Loved it, but not enough to satisfy. The story as usual keeps us hanging g and wanting more. Love Mason and and Tanner. Would love to see them together on the same mission kicking butts.
WOW WOW and WOW this guy can write ,that much I've known from the previous books but the imagination this guy has easily rivals Steven Spielberg " Really" ! The only complaint is it had an ending . PLEASE HURRY WITH THE NEXT ONE !!
As always Mr. Bradley delivers a gripping story with lots of violence and equal amounts of humor. I still love the characters and I am always exited with the new characters that get introduced. Editing is great.
