After a career in dysfunctional organizations of various types I've come to the conclusion that there aren't any other kinds. My first two books, Trojan Hearse and Poor Richard, are satires about what can happen when the vast power of government is handed to knuckleheads.

Now Boarding is a little different. It's about a young guy trying to get a foothold in the adult world and almost getting his head taken off in the process.

Only a few friends and family have read them so far but I'm going to be trying to get them a little more attention and we'll see what happens.

"...we are with the government, and we are here to help."

Those are quite possibly the scariest words in the English language...

This book is fictional, I think. I hope so, anyway, though much of it seems to be, as the saying goes, "ripped from today's headlines."

Turns out, several of our government agencies have hatched a plot to foil the other plot of a terrorist who was once a used car salesman in the U.S.A., but who left something behind when he departed. Hang onto your hats because heroes and villains are about to collide in a showdown at Tommy's Gridiron Gospel theme park. Fists and bullets will fly. Hallelujah!

"This border's tighter'n a gnat's ass. If there's one thing we can be sure about, it's that no terrorist is getting inside The United States of America."

Uh huh. I feel better already knowing these guys are on the case.

The pace here is fairly frenetic and seldom lets up. There is seemingly a cast of thousands, though . The book is clever, well written and funny, and the author does a great job of deftly skewering both religion and politics. I wasn't sure exactly who to root for which makes the whole thing seem all the more plausible.

"Oskar wrote our new torture policy. The real one, not the one we released publicly."

I guess the big worry is that this book will seem just as timely five to ten years from now.

Gulp!
