Flutterby is the first book by Suz Korb I've read and found it full of beautiful descriptions and great characters.
Ami is a teenager growing up on the reservation, there's nothing to do and no prospect of anything happening... ever. Then one day it starts snowing in the middle of the desert, on closer inspection it turns out to be millions of white butterflies. Ami is enthralled by the beauty and wonders where this phenomenon comes from. Well she's about to find out as a single solitary Monarch butterfly flies towards her. Ami is the transported half way round the world and a whole new way of life opens up. Of course not everything runs smoothly, after all what's a good story without a baddy and in this one there's 2. Can Ami battle threw and save the Flutterby? Or will the baddies win the day bringing destruction to the community shs just found out about.
As I said at the beginning, Korb is a good user of words and describes the butterflies and other winged creatures beautifully. There's also some fighting so there's some blood mentioned but even that's done tastefully.
This is a good read and although aimed more for the Young Adult demographic, it's a lovely read for all ages.

A little bit of a strange read but I found I quickly got into it and loved it regardless. It's definitely not your average read. With such beautiful imagery and scenes, this is one of those rare hidden gems you hear about. Beautiful work.
