Perfect Imperfections

Rate this book
At the age of 27, Natasha is just a few months away from marrying her long-term boyfriend, Josh. Suddenly, he is called out of the country to take over the running of his father’s business. While he’s away, Natasha arranges a surprise wedding present for him – a portrait of herself.

The handsome artist who agrees to paint the portrait is Gabriel Owens, a gifted painter who is partially sighted. He is sarcastic and brash, and Natasha finds herself always saying the wrong thing at the wrong time.

It turns out that Josh isn’t the perfect fiancé that Natasha believed him to be and she is left reeling, her life in free fall. Does Gabriel have the tenacity and inner strength to pick up the pieces when he himself has so many insecurities and his own life is far from perfect?

Perfect Imperfections is the first book in the Moments series. It’s an emotional story, which can be read as a standalone novel. You won’t find a cliffhanger here, but instead a heartfelt ending that definitely won’t disappoint.

Perfect Imperfections tells the story of Tash (full: Natasha) and her love life. She's been together with her youth love, Josh, for 10 years and it ended all of a sudden. Josh found another woman, Michelle. Tasha is devastated and finds solace with Gabriel, an artist who painted her. They become closer, but will they be able to piece together one another's perfect imperfections?

Perfect Imperfections is such a good book! Wow! It's definitely my favourite book written by J. & L. Wells. In the beginning it was a bit slow, but when I read more, I couldn't stop. It's so fast paced and interesting. The story is very unique and I just love it! Tasha is such a nice main character and Gabriel is hot and funny. And there was this plot twist that I didn't see coming and I was crying for like an hour. Perfect Imperfections is so good and I highly recommend it!

This was a fantastically written book. Even though it did take a while to get into the book and for the characters to come together I understood it couldn't be helped in order for the reader to understand fully when and where Natasha and Gabriel met and how their friendship and subsequent relationship started.

Natasha is going out with a complete dick but she doesn't realise it until a few weeks before her wedding and by then she had already brought him a wedding present or a painting of herself. When she meets Gabriel the artist her first opinion of him is that he is dick and is grouchy but as the weeks go past they both warm to each other.

Gabriel is a painter but not just any painter he has a special way of painting due to him being partly sighted. He lives a quiet life with his cat that thinks it's a dog and is afraid to start living due to his vision and the past.

When natasha splits from Josh she has to go on a journey of self discovery and whilst one an occasion or two she falls into the arms of Gabriel she knows they both want different things in life but when fate brings them back together with one of them being cured and one being ill they have to finally agree to their feeling for each other and see if they can make a future together.

I loved how this book was written with the same comments that any person that is normally sighted would say and the same emotions that those that are partly sighted might feel. I also love that it is set towards Derbyshire as not many books are based in the U.K. and so close to where I live so that was just a bonus touch for me and I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

This story was beautifully written and I found myself getting lost within the pages. The characters were great and I felt like I connected with them all, some just took longer than others. There are some fun, sweet moments and some very emotional ones too.

This book held me captive and I read within one sitting. Its a tale of loss, hope, passion, love and compassion. With so many twists and turns I never knew what to expect with this book.

Have the tissues at the ready and remember to breath!

Well done to this Mother/ Daughter writing duo, this was the perfect start to a new series and I can wait to see what comes next.

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars

***Please note, ARC provided by the authors in exchange for an honest review.***

Perfect Imperfections by J&L Wells was a bit of a roller coaster, both plot wise, as well as my enjoyment factor. Truth be told, I was a little skeptical for the first quarter of the book. It felt a little long winded and I wasn't sold on a couple of the characters, one being our heroine, Tasha. With that being said, I was intrigued by Gabriel and liked the fact that he was a bit bitchy lol and so I pressed on.

The more I got to know Gabriel, the more I liked him even if a couple of things didn't quite make sense to me. A day trip to a museum for example. Or maybe it just felt out of place given where things were in the story at that time. Similarly, if you're in limbo with someone, is it logical to pack a bag and share space for a few days?

Why 4 stars? Again, Gabriel. Such a cheeky, moody bastard that one and yeah, I dug it! I do wish the budding relationship had been explored a little more thoroughly. It felt a little glossed over, though other relationships, such as the sibling relationship between Tasha and Adrianna, dug a little deeper. While Gabriel played a huge role in my final rating, he didn't pull it off on his own. Family dynamics and a surprising twist at about three quarters in kicked things up significantly. Tasha's parents, for example, were the most interesting couple for me. Their past, a tricky one, and how it shaped their 'today', imo, is enough for oh, I dunno...their own novella maybe? Ahem.

The twist was nicely done. I did not see that coming and usually I can see such things coming a mile away. The fact that it snuck on me was a nice change. Kudos to the authors for that! Perfect Imperfections is a semi-slow burn romance with a healthy dose of family dysfunction that will hit you dead square in the feels.

I rate this almost the full 5 stars.

This is so much more than a contemporary romance and it is a one heck of a story. It was so nice to read a British novel too (particularly as I'm a Nottingham girl and work in Derbyshire!). I started reading this book when I went to bed - at 2am, and with a good hour and a half left to read, I reluctantly had to put it down. As soon as I woke up I continued reading until I had finished it.

The book is written first person POV (which I like) but only from Tash's viewpoint, and this is why it lost just a sliver of a star. I really liked all the characters in this book, but since we don't 'hear' (read) Gabriel's voice I didn't fully engage with him as the hero. He didn't dominate Tash's thoughts quite enough for me. I found both Gabriel and Tash to be likeable and 'real' characters, the chemistry between them was believable and I found it refreshing that it wasn't all roses and sunshine, but that they irritated or upset each other and were sometimes a little awkward in what to say or do.

We get to know Natasha's family quite intimately as they all feature heavily in the book, for me this was a definite positive and what lifted it above other romances where support characters are quite flat or limited. The scenes and images evoked are amazing. I loved Tash's description of being in Monet's Poppy painting, the scene towards the end of the book where Josh and she watch Peter Pan, another one with Adrianna (this involves blankets and pegs and you'll know when you've read it because you will probably need a few tissues to get through it) and the one with Gabriel sharing the first winter snowfall with her.

There is so much story in this book that ISN'T romance based and I really enjoyed that about the story. I loved how much of Tash's life we get to experience, and boy there are some real ups and downs along the way and a couple of real unexpected twists before the end of the book. The ending was some of what I hoped for but given the circumstances (and you really need to read this book and find out what they are) there are still questions waiting to be answered.

There is a follow up book coming out later in the year and I will definitely be reading this to find out what happens next.

My thoughts are torn on this book, the first half I found slow and dragged for me and yet the second half I loved and thank god for Gabriel as he saved this story for me.

During the first half I did not feel a connection with Tash, her sister was annoying and then her relationship with her fiancé Josh for me was very immature and lacked depth when they had been together for 10 years. Her thoughts on marriage I did not understand until later on after her moment with her mother so for her to one minute say she felt smothered then be all sulking and missing Josh when he was away on business, I kind of found her annoying.

The story picked up for me when Gabriel enters but I think his time should have been fleshed out more and have less of Tash and her family dramatics which got annoying. Some chapters just did not flow well for me and the speed of the story was not constant it had real dips where I felt I was getting no where in the story having to deal with her sisters drama, her mothers drinking and her dad's gardening and then we are all of a sudden going too fast and I wanted more detail of Gabriel, Josh and Michelle. This was Tash's story and yet all these other characters were to me highjacking the story.

Did not feel an emotional connection to Tash until Josh's work party where his double cross was revealed and then when she meets Josh that day in her parents house and her secret is revealed. Now onto the time line for that, I was really upset it jumped so far ahead and then her whole story was lightly mentioned in her memory of what happened while she was on the cruise - again I wanted a bit more detail.

Now one section I found riveting was Michelle's disclosure to Tash at the wedding and then the realisation by Tash of how Josh really acted during her relationship, again I felt this was really pivotal and she does not have a confrontation with Josh?

The Christmas chapter after the wedding was beautiful and very emotional and the recollection with her Nan and her moment of opening her eyes was truly beautiful and well written. Her family bringing Christmas to her with Gabriel was lovely.

Honestly I think some chapters from Gabriel POV would have helped at significant moments in this story, when she is sitting for wedding portrait, when dad visits him and he races to find her in park, the Christmas after the wedding, I mean it was all Tash and her family drama and it wore me down in the end.

I loved the ending and it does tie everything up for this stage of their lives.

You start off with Natasha and her long time boyfriend Josh on vacation. He ends up purposing to her on the beach. She feels like they shouldn't mess up something good. Why get married? She was kinda pushed into it. Now it's getting close to her wedding day. She's actually excited yet nervous. Josh leaves to go to America for 2 weeks to do some work for his dad's company. Her mom springs on her that she has arranged for a man to paint her for a wedding present to Josh. She shows up and the man starts to feel her face. She thinks he's some kind of pervert but truth is he is partially blind. He can see but not the full detail. She's kinda glad, because when she first saw him she was checking him out. Their personalities clashed a lot. I felt like 30% into the book that Josh was up to something shady. Like there's a very slow build up that's happening between Tasha and Josh. Josh finally comes home for a visit and you can tell there is a change with his behavior towards Tasha. But mean while her friendship with Gabriel, the painter has gotten better. Then one night her perfectly planned life comes crashing down. She winds up at Gabriel's house. I think after that night she starts to live alittle more in the moment. That's not the only thing that is shattering that happens to her. This was an emotional book especially after about 40%. I laughed and cried at moments and this one has a MAJOR cliff hanger. Can't wait for the next book.

Perfect Imperfections - where do I even begin? Can I just start off by saying that this was a beautifully phenomenal and captivating story that I was immediately drawn to. As soon as I began reading this extraordinary story I couldn't put it down (at least until I was forced to of course) and finished it as soon as I possibly could. This is my first J & L Wells book, but I am so happy this was the one because it had my full attention right from the beginning. These two are truly the perfect writing dual and I couldn't even detect where one author ended and the other one began. Their intertwined writing style is breathtakingly perfect and it'll leave the readers craving for more. In this sensational story we are taken on a journey of self-discovery and discovering that the one you're with may not always be the one that you need.

It may have taken me a few pages to get into this story because I didn't instantly connect with Natasha, but then I got to this one moment in the first chapter and I knew right away that she was about to become one of my favorite characters. I absolutely adored her and how she blossomed into the wonderful women that I cannot wait to see more of in future books!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Forewarning though, this book is written in British English (which I enjoy), to new readers it may take a little bit to get use to. The book starts off a little slow but for good reason. The author gets you acquainted with the characters and who they are as people. You get to see inside Natasha's life and what makes her tick so to speak. Natasha has a lot going on in her life. From a nagging, whiny sister to a meddling mother, mixed in with a d-bag fiance, life is complicated. Natasha goes to do a portrait sitting for a wedding present for her husband. When she meets the artist Gabriel hitting it off is anything but. The two don't really get along, until later. It was fun to watch their relationship unfold and circumnavigate through the choppy waters of complications that exist in both their lives. I was left shell shocked when I saw what kind of person Josh turned out to be. Then when that bomb of what happens to Natasha is dropped I was left reeling. The writing while different, is terrific. I cant wait to see book two as i'm told it will be in alternating persons and I'd love to see Gabriel's side of things. The story builds slowly on itself and quickly picks p sped to where you can not put this book down. The character progression is wonderful to see and the overall plot is top notch. Plus i love that book cover. 4 stars from me!

5/5 blubbering Stars

Seriously, this novel made me cry so freaking much. It's entirely not fair how much I cried. There were happy tears and sad tears, angry tears and more. Not many books can make me cry. Have feelings, yes. But cry? Not many.

That is just a small testament to Judy and Laura's writing. I honestly found no flaws in there writing whatsoever. I will admit that since I am from the US the style was a bit odd at first, but I got used to the England quirks. (It may help that the story is set in England).

Every single character was extremely life-like. Each had their good points and bad points. And even when you got a bad (or good) feeling about them, you weren't sure what their true intentions were. And honestly, that is like life in general. So I loved how they were able to translate that into their writing.

Without giving too much away, I was so terrified that Tash wasn't going to have her happy ending. Things were going so well and I still had about 40% of the book to go. So I knew things were not going to go so well. I just did not realize how out of sorts the characters were going to get.

I can't wait to read more from Laura and Judy. As much as I hate crying, I loved how they turned me into a blubbering fool!

I truly enjoyed reading this book. I was fortunate to not have to wait for book 2 because I got both books close together.
Yay me. I think that with the way how I loved this book I would have obsessed over the days I waited and started counting down with a calendar even though it wasn't that long a wait.
This was how much I seriously loved this book and enjoyed it. I read a lot and I'm one of those readers who takes their time . With this book I just lapped it right up and gobbled up the whole story. I just wanted more with each page and couldn't get enough. This book is inspiring, it makes you fall in love with the characters. It makes you fall in love with love. Goodness gracious , it makes you cry and very few things make me cry. It was so well written. I don't know if its even enough to say that because I felt like I was transported into the story and everything was so real to me. The descriptions of everything and everyone came alive for me.
I loved it so much I'm going to be reading it again at my turtle pace so I can fall in love with the story all over again. It's a resounding 5/5 stars for me. Not sure how anyone can give this masterpiece of a book anything less than 5/5 ✨✨✨✨✨✨

This was a creeper, a slow burning romance that played its card very close to its chest and seemd to delight in teasing the details out page by page.
After a decade together Natasha and her fiancé Josh are getting ready to tie the knot, everything is ready and the day is fast approaching when they can say their I do’s and settle down to their own happy ever after…or at least that was what Natasha thought the plan was because it soon turns out that her happy ever after isn’t around the corner anyway, well definitely not with Josh.
Before everything goes to he*l in a handbasket Natasha commissions a painting as a gift for Josh and a local artist Gabriel is the one tasked with its creation but as things slowly turn from happiness to horror, the pair of them form a bond that I don’t believe either of them could have possibly seen coming. Theirs is a friendship that is forged under the most difficult of circumstances and despite the fact that Gabriel is hardly known for his warm and friendly demeanour, with Natasha things are different.
Gabriel was a bit on the prickly side to start with, he had his reasons, one of which seemed to be that he was constantly on the defensive about his failing vision and I understood how for a person so entrenched in a visual art, that must have been difficult to deal with but as awkward as he could be, when she needed someone to lean on and he wanted that person to be him and he was more than willing to be the friend she need.
As I said earlier this was a creeper, it took its time to let go of all its secrets but it was worth the wait, there was a twist or two along the way and a few moments that will tug at your heartstrings. Emotionally this was a journey well-travelled in perfect company!

Natasha gets the surprise of her life. She’s all about helping out her family. She has a fiancé named Josh. Right out of the gate, I just didn’t feel any type of connection between the two of them. He certainly has grandiose plans but where does Natasha fit into those plans. And that could be why I just don’t feel there’s anything there for these two. But conflict is a great way to grab a reader’s attention.

But on a good note, I found that Natasha had an interesting family and was looking forward to getting to know them – quirks and all. Never had a sister so I can’t say that I understand where Adrianna is coming from. There are times you have to feel sorry for what Natasha seems to be going through. This shows how creative our authors are by getting their readers involved in the story.

We have another character named Gabriel Owens. He seems to be creating something special for Natasha. He’s a unique character that he doesn’t feel he needs to impress anyone. The authors haven’t made him a very likeable guy. I loved the banter that went on between Gabriel and Natasha. He is what grabbed my attention and had me looking forward to whenever these two were together.

If you’re expecting a quick read, you will not get that here. The scenes aren’t slow but they don’t go by quickly either. Like fine wine, these things take time. I was happy with the ending because it left me wanting to see how life is affecting these characters in Perfectly Flawed coming out in May.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Honest to god I think poor Laura was bursting for my review, she know's that I'm not a huge "slow burner" book fan, yet she still had faith that I'd like Tash and Gabriel's story. Yes it is slow burning until mid-way (so if that's your thing you're already on to a winner), it's an eye opener, but at just over 400 pages overall I can deal with 50% slow burn and it does pick up rapidly after that. Tash's character kept me engaged, she's determined if nothing else, and you can really get on her level. For those of you wary of love triangles, it's not, yes it features 2 male characters, but there is reasons it's not a triangle without giving away the entire plot. It's my first read by this mother/daughter duo, and they did a good job toe dipping into contemporary romance, I'll certainly be coming back for more.

I cannot remember the last time I cried this much while reading a book. It was such a heartfelt, emotional rollercoaster that I loved every minute of. This mother-daughter duo sure know how to write a beautiful story. I definitely experienced a wide range of emotions while reading from happiness, humor, pain (heartbreaking pain), sadness and anger. The story has great story and character development and flow. I felt like I was there going through all the motions and experiences with Tasha. I don't want to post any spoilers but there is a character that I can't help but hate and one that I absolutely fell in love with. I am excited to see where book 2 will lead us on this journey with Tasha, Gabriel and Josh. If your intrigued, which you should be, just scroll up the page and purchase this wonderful book. Bravo J & L Wells!

This was an outstanding story. Natasha has loved the same man her entire life. Josh has always been there for her. They have shared so many "first's" in since an early age. Now they are to be married. As a wedding present to Josh, Natasha is having a portrait done by an up and coming artist named Gabriel. Josh takes a job in the states with his father's company and is gone for several weeks. Things change between them, and ends with Natasha having a broken heart. She soon turns to her friend Gabriel. Gabriel is charismatic, but has problems of his own. Sometimes life throws up a curve ball or twenty. You just have to learn how to LIVE life. Can Natasha move forward? Can she find happiness with another? This book was well written. It also has a wide range of emotions. Warning: may need tissues. I voluntarily read/reviewed this ARC.

Audrianna is expecting her first child and her sister Natasha is with her at the doctor. Natasha thinks that the baby is going to be a girl. Audrianna isn't surprised that her mother isn't at her appointment. Natasha and Josh are planning their wedding, while at her parents house Josh tells her that he quit his job and went to work for his father. Natasha's mother got her a present to give her soon to be husband a painting of herself. While at Gabriel's house she wasn't very pleasant to him.
Natasha is Audrianna's younger sister, She doesn't want to get married. Josh is Natasha fiance. Works for his father. Audrianna is Natasha's older sister. Lives at home with her parents. Expecting her first child. Gabriel is a painter, he can't see very well. Has a cat.
This is my first book by J&L Wells and I can honestly say that this book will not be my last. The reason that I gave this book four stars is because it took me awhile to get into this book but once I was into this book it was very hard to put down.

A heart wrenching story filled with beautifully flawed characters. When I started this book, I really wanted to smack a character or two for their childishness but as more was revealed, behavior was explained by prior events and the story of the family became whole. Natasha has her entire world turned on it's head when one simple truth becomes known to her: her man is a douche. The story which unfolds is filled with uncertainty and angst of what is believed to be inevitable, the worries that plague lives and keep them from going for what they want. Can it be overcome? Sometimes the strength to fight comes from others' belief that one can overcome.

What an emotional read that will grip your attention right at the beginning and keep you page turning from then. Natasha commissions a portrait of herself by artist Gabriel for her long term boyfriend/fiance as a wedding gift. She is distraught when Josh breaks off their engagement. As she goes through her period of self discovery she turns to Gabriel on and off. No spoiler here but this is a great story with no cliffhanger. Beware you may need some tissues.

Perfect Imperfections by J. & L. Wells
As expected, this first book in the Moments series by J & L Wells is terrifically written and wonderfully colorful. These authors take the rough stuff firmly in hand, mix it with a bunch of humor, drive it down a twisty road, then add a sneak peek into book 2 that dropped me right off the cliff. (Happily, I already own it.) The characters and life lessons represented in these pages are really addicting.

This book pulls on your emotions. Natasha's life is a rollercoaster of ups and downs. She feels like her future is laid out for her, but nothing is as it seems.
The writing is good and the story flows well. It's told in Natasha's POV.
I enjoyed reading Perfect Imperfections. It was hard to put down. I needed to know what was going to happen next.

ARC of Perfect Imperfections by J & L Wells was given to me in exchange for an honest review.

Natasha is a woman who wants to be herself and doesn't want to be ruled by her family, her long-term boyfriend, and society's expectations. She wants to live life on her own terms. She doesn't want to be like everyone else. She takes pride in her individuality. She doesn't pretend to be someone she's not.

Natasha feels weighed down with all the choices surrounding her. She doesn't feel like she has a voice or an opinion on what's been decided in regards to her future. She feels like an observer in her own life, watching on as everyone else take control. To make matters worse, she has to contend with family drama, particularly pertaining to her mother and her very pregnant older sister.

Gabriel Owens, an upcoming artist who is partially sighted comes into Natasha life as a gift from her mother to get her portrait taken. Natasha doesn't like the idea, but decides to go along with it in order to appease her mother. Upon coming face-to-face with him, Natasha lets her frustration with feeling powerless at not being able to make her own decisions dictate the outcome of their meeting.

Without meaning to, Natasha comes off as being very opinionated which rubs Gabriel the wrong way. He's not amused by her perception of him. To say the least, they get off on the wrong foot as misunderstanding drives a wedge between them. They just can't seem to stop arguing with one another as they spend more and more time together. Soon their dynamic is changing as they become closer and get to know one another. They develop a friendship before it turns into something more, something that takes them both by surprise.

I gave this book a three star rating⭐⭐⭐. I liked the character development between Natasha and Gabriel. It was well-done. These two have overcome so much and I liked witnessing that journey. The title of this one speaks the truth, people are not perfect and we should love and accept their imperfections.

Gabriel - "Perfect no. But you've no need to be, because I love everyone of them. I love your perfect imperfections."
I loved just about every part of this book. There are twists and turns throughout involving everything from the characters to the story itself.
Josh and Tasha have been together for 10 years and are about to be married. But then Josh has to go to America for 2 weeks for his job. Thinking that everything is great, Tasha lets her mom talk her into having a portrait painted for Josh as a wedding gift. Unbeknownst to Tasha, Gabriel, the artist, is visually impaired and she freaks out and thinks he's some kind of pervert when he starts "seeing" her with his hands. Initially he also comes across as a jerk but over time you get to see the real Gabriel, and how its just a front he uses with Tasha.
When Josh returns from his trip, Tasha's world is turned upside down with no idea how it happened. She finds herself turning to, not only her family, but also Gabriel, to help her deal with all of it and figure out what she should do next. But this is just the beginning of what's in store for her and she gets to find out just how strong she really is and how much the people you love, and love you in return, are worth fighting any battle for.

I received this book as an ARC.
