After selling the inn she inherited from her grandmother, Rachel DeWitt moves to Kansas City to put her past behind her and realize her dream of going to art school. While at a celebratory dinner out alone, she meets Braden Easton, and due to her quick thinking, she rescues him from a terrible first date. . Rachel has sworn off romance for the foreseeable future—even if Braden’s British accent makes her swoon. So when Braden presents a plan to be each other’s “plus one” as needed, Rachel agrees. Before long, the two are spending a good deal of time together, and Rachel wonders why she hasn’t tried this friendship-dating thing before. But what she doesn’t know is that Braden has a secret that could threaten their arrangement and change both of their lives in ways neither one has ever imagined.
After a couple of years off, Rachel is ready to go back to college--art school, in fact. She's braver than I am and goes to an upscale restaurant by herself, where she rescues Braden from a bad date. Who can resist a British accent? Rachel sure can't. They each have reasons for not wanting to give dating a break and decide to be a "plus one" for each other--a friendship/dating relationship.
When all of the elements for an affinity are there, it's only natural to act on those feelings, but these two fight it to the death. I couldn't understand why they didn't just give in and just date, since their reasons weren't very solid, in my opinion. Of course, that maddening tension breathes life to the story and gives it some friction. I honestly wasn't completely sure of the outcome until near the end, which kept me engaged.
I liked the characters because they felt real and flawed. Their reactions to situations are normal, although there is one situation where they both seemed to blow it off to easily (a near robbery). I love the setting and how I could visualize it. I would have loved to have more interactions and dialog between Rachel and Braden, as there is a lot of telling, instead of showing. I would have also loved to see more situations arise where they needed that plus one, instead of just a friend.
Content: mild romance; one instance of mild violence.

Enjoyable story. If you like clean romance this is a good fit. There is nothing in it that is going to be memorable long term other than a British accent but it was a fun escape.
Such a boring book! I rolled my eyes constantly and couldn’t wait for the torture of flat characters and juvenile writing to be over. I forced myself to finish but wish I’d quit.
Rachel and Braden meet randomly at a fancy restaurant, and both have an undeniable attraction to each other, but they're both determined to stay friends. Braden comes up with a plot to get to know Rachel better--what if they were each other's "plus one" to all the events they want to attend?
It works better than they expected, and soon the romance blossoms. I love a good friends-to-lovers story, because it gives the characters a chance to really get to know each other as people, and Braden and Rachel are both genuinely interesting!
Fun, lighthearted, clean. It was a cute read, and I enjoyed the friend/maybe more tension, even when occasionally I wanted to also them both upside the head and say, "Duh! Of course the other person likes you!" But that's just part of the experience.
Rating: G/PG for some smooching and... I dunno, I guess some oblique discussion of Tinder and casual hookups (which clearly neither character is in to, but there's a date with someone else who is).
If possible, this book was even better than the first one, "Keeping Christmas". The characters were well developed, and I feel like I know them as real life friends. I want to see Rachel's artwork. I want to sit with Braden and eat bean toast. Their story ended too soon..
This sweet romance novella might be the best book I've read all year--certainly my favorite contemporary romance! For one thing, I'm a sucker for a book set in a real place with real landmarks that makes me want to visit. I guess I need to make a trip to Kansas City. I'm not one to include a summary of the book, but things that I liked about it--the twist on the damsel in distress, the cute banter, the British accent, but mostly, the art. I loved Rebecca Blevins' descriptions and the ideas behind them. I loved the characters and rooted for them. A beautiful way to spend an afternoon! I can't wait to read the next in this series.
This was such a heartwarming, clean romance. I enjoyed spending these past couple of days with these characters...I mean who can resist a man with a British accent! I love a good romance that slowly builds between the characters throughout the entire book, instead of getting caught in the instal-love trap, and Rebecca did a great job at that. I look forward to reading more from this author.
I really enjoyed this book. There were no major plot twists but the storyline felt very real and the dialogue was fun and witty. Rachel and Braden meet in a very unique way. The two decide to become each other's plus one and a great friendship begins. I loved how the love story developed. I thought the conflict was very true to life. This was a great romance and a fun read.
