HUMAN TRAFFICKING, SNUFF FILMS, AND ONE WOMAN OUT FOR REVENGE...

Just when you get out…

Former Chicago cop Jack Daniels thought she’d left her former life behind. She’d traded her badge for a toddler, and her lifelong pursuit of heinous serial killers for a boring house in the suburbs.

…they pull you back in.

Then Jack sees some pictures. Pictures of men who were supposed to be dead. And once again, against the fierce insistence of her husband, Phineas Troutt, Jack reluctantly straps on her gun and goes hunting. Hunting for the worst of the worst.

This leads to a trek across the Great Plains, searching for a modern slavery ring, on a collision course with three of the most horrible villains Jack has ever faced.

But Jack, and her irritating buddy Harry McGlade, will face them, and much more. Because they’re prepared to go to hell and back to rescue an old friend.

The trick will be getting back in one piece. And—spoiler alert—they don’t.

Joe Konrath has written over twenty novels in the Lt. Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels thriller series. They do not have to be read chronologically to be enjoyed, but the order is: Whiskey Sour, Bloody Mary, Rusty Nail, Dirty Martini, Shot of Tequila, Fuzzy Navel, Cherry Bomb, Dead On My Feet, Serial Killers Uncut (with Blake Crouch), Shaken, Stirred (with Blake Crouch), Dying Breath, Everybody Dies, Rum Runner, Last Call, White Russian, Shot Girl, Chaser, Old Fashioned, Bite Force, and Witch Brew. More coming soon.

Wow, that's a lot of Jack.

If you like your thrillers on the dark side, check out the Konrath Dark Thriller Collective, which includes the books The List, Origin, Afraid, Trapped, Endurance, Haunted House, Webcam, Disturb, What Happened To Lori, The Nine, Second Coming, and Close Your Eyes.

Joe also wrote the Stop A Murder mystery puzzle series, where you become the sleuth and solve brain teasers to try and catch a killer.

He also wrote the sci-fi trilogy, Timecaster, Timecaster Supersymmetry, and Timecaster Steampunk. Even if you don't think you like sci-fi, give them a try. They feature Joe's well-known characters from his other series, and are insane.

With Ann Voss Peterson he wrote the Codename: Chandler thrillers, including Flee, Spree, Three, Hit, Exposed, Naughty, Fix (with F. Paul Wilson), Rescue, and Free.

And, finally, he writes erotica under the pen name Melinda DuChamp, also with Ann Voss Peterson. Those books are probably too spicy for you, so only the brave and bold should seek them out.

Joe writes a lot. You should probably read everything.

The conclusion to this series was not the best, but not the worst, either.

I am a firm believer in let the dead stay dead. Having said that, Konrath is always entertaining.

This is about what can be expected from this author.

4 stars for another Jack Daniels rescue mission, similar to Last Call the previous book in the series. Some of the events in the previous book form part of the narrative in this book and you would understand this one better if you read Last Call first. This book also ties into the next book in the series, Shot Girl. If you read Last Call first, and are upset that some characters die, then you will like this book. There are pretty gruesome descriptions of torture/violence. There are also some humorous exchanges between 3 characters, whom I can't name because it would be a spoiler for Last Call. I recommend that you start with book 1 in this series Whiskey Sour and read them in order. Most of the books are violent and not for cozy mystery fans.

Nail Biting Suspense!

Small backstory:

Jack is back but kind of in secret as to the criminal world she is considered "dead" but when a message from a serial killer is sent to Harry McGlade that Jack's partner is still alive and being held prisoner, Jack decides to come out of hiding to help Harry track down not only the killer but to rescue her old partner!

That is about all I can give on a small backstory without giving away spoilers so if you want to know more you will need to read the book!

Thoughts:

I love this crime thriller series by Konrath and I have been trying to stay steady on reading the series. I own almost all of the books on my kindle so it makes it easy to read this series a little at a time.

With this book there is a slow buildup of suspense which starts to heat up when Jack joins Harry on his adventure. As always there are quite a few chuckles as Harry is being Harry with all his antics and Jack has to put up with Harry's jokes while trying to stay focused on the job at hand. When the lead starts flying though is when the book goes into overdrive as Jack and Harry end up getting more than they bargained for when they end up at their destination. Looking forward to continuing this series and to see what happens next in the book, Shot Girl. Giving this book five "Terror Thriller" stars!

Couldn't finish it.

Stupid characters and plot. Vicious, horrible story. Made it to about 25% and that as far as I can read it.

So friggin fantastic!

I absolutely love this series, and I believe it's the best criminal suspense thriller series I have ever read. I love the characters, the humor, the suspense, the love that binds the characters together, and the action! If you haven't read this series, start at book one because you don't want to miss a moment!

J.A.Konrath should have concluded this series with book 10. Up till then the series was violent, but funny. White Russian IMHO was violent and disgusting!

Had a really hard time staying interested in this book despite enjoying previous Jack Daniels' books. Not sure why. There were many funny scenes and the usual horrifying ones. I may have to try going through this one again some time soon.

4 stars and ridiculous. Entertaining, funny, gory, sad, and still ridiculous. At one point Jack tells Harry he has become a parody of himself. This, and a few other lines in the book, show that Konrath knows and embraces the path his books have found. And, as with most authors, the past is never left in the past.

J.A. Konrath has become one of my favorite authors and even though his Jack Daniels stories have basically turned into literary torture porn, I still look forward to the new releases.

If there is anything wrong with this book in particular, it would have to be Jack's marriage. I love her and Phin as a couple but it feels like they've been having the same conflict for the last three books (Rum Runner, Last Call, and White Russian). I really wish that they'd just communicate with each other.

I almost gave this book only 4 stars but changed my mind because a twist was still able to surprise me even after I thought I'd figured things out.

There are some authors out there that will carry on a tired series long after the hero's story is done but I genuinely hope that this isn't the end of Jack.

There had better be a Book 12 now! Talk about leaving the reader hanging. It has been so long since a Jack Daniels book, I had forgotten how much I like her and the background of her and Phin. Jack seems fairly "cold" in this story, and I had expected her to get past this somewhat. Great story regardless, and I'm looking for Book 12.

Still recovering from previous injuries, grieving Herb and Tequila, & living under assumed names, Jack is drawn back in to a hunt with McGlade. He has found some information that reveals that Jack's friends might be alive. On a quest to find them, she leaves Phin at home with their daughter much to his chagrin, further driving a wedge in their marriage. McGlade and his Crimebago Deux along with two creepy psychotic twins, a new animal on board, & Jack make their way to find their friends and cut down a drug ring and slavery ring that is all accessible on the dark net. Very little clues and a showdown with some killers has all the ingredients of a death match to see who's still standing. Murder, drugs, money, foreigners, & surprising endings wrap this road trip up

Wieder einer der besseren Jack Daniels Thriller. Ich finde generell super, dass alle Charaktere mit den Fällen auch altern, ihr Leben ändern und so weiter. Hier trifft man einige alte Bekannte, was ich echt klasse finde.

Jack is back!

Great series by a great author and was surprised by this addition. I had a hard time putting the book down, so I blazed through it! I'm shocked by the sickos that Jack has to bring to justice. I love the feelings that the main characters have for each other and it's how I feel for them as well. I'm reminded of some things that happened in previous books, but believe you could read this without knowing the history, and if you like it, then you have found a new series and ten new books to read. Score! I'm ever hopeful that we will see a new cocktail in our future.

This. This is the reason I faked my own death. Because there was always one more lunatic, with some perceived grudge, trying to harm me for something I did on the job.
If I had the chance to do it all over, I wouldn't have ever become a cop.

The eleventh installment sees a more mature, subdued Jack once again dragged back into the fray with her ever-present sick-kick Harry McGlade. This time, instead of heading out on a mission to kill another enemy, Jack and Harry are trying to save some old friends, who may or may not have died in previous books.

These books are usually fun and silly, but this one felt a bit like Konrath was just rehashing old stuff for the sake of it. I have to admit, as much as I enjoy this series, I'm a little sick and tired of hearing Jack complain about her marriage to Phin. Also, not a fan of the kid. There's no way a four year old talks like that.

McGlade is as hilarious as ever and the fat jokes never cease to make me laugh. Also, it was fun to see some old characters back helping Jack on her mission. The ending left the door open for another book. Just hope I don't have to wait years and years for it.

Jack Daniels? Never less than 5 stars...LOL

OMG.... I always wait in tense anticipation for the next episode of the Jack Daniels series so there is no way I am ever going to give less than a 5 star review to Mr. Konrath. As mentioned previously, I typically hate these types of police thrillers, but Mr. Konrath creates such varied loveable heroes, heroines, and villains that I am salivating to read more. They are just too much fun. You’ve got suspense, adventure, comedy, and horror mixed up in one. This is my one reading vice.... I love to be entertained and whip through the pages. I always get that with this author. (BTW, Mr. Jack Kilborn..... I am also waiting in VERY tense anticipation, biting my nails to the quick, waiting for your next novel. Hurry up or the Cowboy will be extracting fingernails instead of teeth on my behalf)

White Russian

Read a lot of the JD series, and just got hooked.
Unfortunately, this one took forever to finish. Everything prior to this had me wanting to read more. Not with this one, the last 25% finally had some action till the end.

Jacqueline Daniels is still recovering from the tragic events described on the previous book ("Last Call", the 10th installment) and this time really committed to leave all the crime fighting behind and enjoy a peaceful retirement with Phin and their daughter... but of course that won't happen, otherwise there wouldn't be a book! There's a new menace now and Harry just gave her the bad news: a sadistic known as 'The Cowboy' has kidnapped Herb and Tequilla, forcing them under torture to harvest opium. So once again, she must go back to action...

"White Russian" is the 11th installment of the Jack Daniels series, one of my favorite crime thriller collections, by J. A. Konrath, but not the best of them... As usual it's very well written and it was a fun read, but to be honest I was expecting something more, it's basically "The Last Call" reloaded (same plot and fewee thrills) and now we know that Konrath is like the screenwriter of those Mexican soap operas that when somebody dies, he doesn't really die and come back on the next book by some kind of miracle last minute save.

Like I say in all my reviews of this series, it's not mandatory to read all the previous books, but believe me, it's a a much better experience when you read them in order, specially because this one is very good, but not excellent!

This one didn't start off that we'll for me. I was happy they Herb and Tequila were alive but I felt it was unrealistic. Oh well, Tequila is my favorite so I don't mind. Jack and Phin are in hiding and Jack goes with Harry to find Herb and Tequila. They are on a opium slave trade. We are also introduced to a weird pair of twins named Heckler and Jeckle. We are taken back in time to what we think is their childhood and all these crazy kills they did but that turns our to be The Cowboy and Wyatt. Annie and Wyatt were the crazy twins. Annie was tortured by Alex and Charles Kork and wanted vengeance. Harry killed Charles and Jack killed Alex so the The Cowboy wanted her.
Chandler shows up to help save Herb and Tequila. Phin followed them and helped save Jack's life. Wyatt was killed but the weird twins save Annie The Cowboy. Jack might or might now walk again but everybody is OK. Look forward to the next one.

This was my first Jack Daniel`s novel and I liked it a lot.
The various appearing "weird birds" were very amusing. But above all the dynamic of the story and the dynamics between the characters led me devour this thriller in one piece.

I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

In my search for all things Russian-related, I stumbled upon this. I'd never read anything from the series before, so obviously I had to check it out.

The genre is a bit hard to categorize, but highly entertaining. There's plenty of humor, plenty of action, and plenty of really gross torture. The last started to get to me as I read it, so readers beware: there's some horrifying violence here. But there are also lots of laugh-out-loud funny moments, and a riveting plot full of twists and turns that will keep you reading--and guessing--till the end. There's also a tough female ex-cop who is actually tough rather than just annoying, which is always a plus. Overall, recommended for action/thriller/humor fans with strong stomachs.

'Jack Daniels', with her merry band of wonderfully misfit partners/friends, NEVER FAILS to entertain. This book, as its predecessors, is a psychological thriller with a plethora of humour, recurring & much loved characters, and enough edge of your seat excitement that you will laugh, cry, and bite your nails. It is edge of your seat excitement and I am already looking forward to the next installment of the Jack Daniels series!! "Jack, Harry,Phin, Herb, Tequila, Chandler" - I miss you already - even after 11 books!! Which villain(s) is/are already planning their demise? I can hardly wait to find out!!!

"White Russian" is clever, grim, funny and has a few plot twists that will spin your head like a top. This is JA Konrath at his best. If you haven't read any of his Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels books I'd suggest you start with "Whiskey Sour" the first in the series and go from there, but all of his Jack Daniels books are complete novels and can be read as stand alones.

Every one of them that I've read has been a fun, enjoyable read and several had laugh out loud moments. Jack's character develops and matures over the novels that make up this series, as do the characters of her supporting cast.

I'll guarantee if you read one Jack Daniels book you'll come back for seconds and thirds and...

Insane, cringe-worthy, and hysterical

Another Jacqueline Daniels book I couldn't put down. The dialogue between Harry and Jack is ludicrous. I haven't laughed at a book this hard in a while. The villains are the worst of the worst. I imagined a world where these people really exist and I got sick to my stomach. There's no way I'm going to reveal any spoilers, so I'll just say I recommend this book. If you've never read a Jacqueline Daniels book, start with the first and work your way through right now!

As long as Konrath is serving up Jack Daniels, I'm buying

I love Jack Daniels (the books, not so much the whiskey). They never disappoint, and White Russian is no exception. Kept me guessing and still managed to make me say "Wait..what?" Konrath definitely plumbs the depths of human depravity and his books are not for the squeamish, but he is a darn good writer and a better story teller, and he shows us the best side of humanity juxtaposed with the worst. Truly satisfying read.

Meh

I continue to read this series because I’m invested in the characters, I guess. But as the series gets more gratuitous in its violence and the plots ever more implausible it becomes hard to enjoy. But I liked how Jack’s character evolved in this installment and there where some humorous moments that made me chuckle. I’m guessing as Konrath has continued to push the envelope it’s unlikely he will back off. But I would sure enjoy them more if he would return to the tone of the first 4 or 5 books in the series and leave the gore to his horror novels.
