Fabularnie to opowieść o chłopcu przemierzającym nieprzyjazny las i doświadczający tam prawdopodobnie pierwszego uczucia straty.

This is such a cool lil book. The first two stories are my fav. In the first, a guy describes his job (of basically... plugging in wires?) during the night shift in the vacant tunnels under a hospital. He thinks there must be over 100 miles of tunnels, creepy hallways with various medical equipment. He sees ghosts out of the corner of his eye in different rooms and hallways. To distract himself from the ghosts, he looks at the computer files of different patients, sees where they live, and imagines other lives for himself in those towns.

In the second story, a person under a blanket with a creepy mask walks through a forest. The person comes across some kind of creature who decides to accompany them, but the person unintentionally leads the gentle creature to a violent death. The person feels the forest's anger, and they carry the creature to a place where they surround it with a wreath of flowers--the creature is eventually one with the forest again.

The third story... I couldn't tell you what it was about, honestly, it was kinda nuts.

All of the art in this book is fantastic; the three stories all have their own unique art style, and it's pretty genius. Definitely definitely worth picking up, this book is eerie and beautiful.

Ghosts, Etc. is really a great bit of urban gothic horror, and it's immediately apparent with the opening pages featuring a photo of a bare, decripit looking office. The design choices in the panel layouts stand out immediately, and make this such an engrossing read.

The first story, "Ghosts", is my personal favorite from this collection because of George Wylesol's implementation of a hypnotic yet eerie sense of design to the storytelling. The story is told from the perspective of someone who works the night shift in a hospital where they spend most of their time in the vacant basement which has a network of tunnels. The worker estimates that the tunnels span for over fifty miles, used for various transportation needs such as for medicine, equipment, waste, food, organs and corpses. The entire story is told without any real interactions between people, instead the reader is treated to barren hallways and rooms and all the fixtures and appliances. It reminds me quite a bit of Martin Vaughn-James' The Cage with the use of a disembodied narrator and use of sparse images to settle on a rather bleak tone. As the narrator navigates their nightly duties, they often feel like they see entities out of the corner of their eyes. Wylesol's impeccable design choices really make the implementation of the supernatural elements so well done. It could just as easily be a trick of the eye than anything more, but the isolated nature of the story makes it feel like anything could really be happening. I haven't finished Wylesol's more recent book, "2120", yet, but I can easily see this story being the basis towards creating that one.

The second and third stories definitely feel like the "etc." since they feel subtantially different in aesthetic and narrative style, but the surrealism still shines through. There's an uncanny sense to everything happening, and Wylesol doesn't linger on any story too long, leaving me in a somewhat befuddled state as to what I just read. But confusing storytelling aside, this collection was a blast of a time.
