All Rough Riders novels are stand alone and can be read individually. QUICK TRICK HOT PUCK DIRTY SCORE WILD ZONE
Skye Jordan returns with the fourth book in the really enjoyable Rough Riders Hockey series. I was interested to see how she pitched Tate Donovan’s story, because he didn’t come over that well in the previous book of the series.
And on the whole it was really enjoyable, you definitely get to see why Tate behaved so negatively towards his sister and Rafe’s relationship when it was made public in Dirty Score, and I really liked the emotional and sexual vulnerability that Skye added to his character due to the way his past relationship had completely imploded.
"I’ve been out of the game a while. I’m… still getting used to the feel of things."
Olivia was definitely the confident one when it came to the base for their relationship, and although the 'one and done' ethos was her usual modus operandi prior to Tate, there is something between them that’s different, and that keeps drawing them back together.
"Sometimes you just know when you’ve found someone who clicks."
One of my peeves in a romance is OTT drama from family members, and Olivia’s mother and sister erred very close to this territory for me, the author just, and I mean just managed to keep all of the drama their inclusion added to the mix in the territory of non-annoying, although I won’t lie, her mother deserved a slap upside the head for acting like an Ostrich for so much of the book.
"I don’t want messy… I just want you."
I have really enjoyed the books from this series so far, I hope that the author has more stories to tell for the rest of the single team members, I also think that Olivia’s sister; Quinn would be a prime candidate to pair off with one of them at some point as well.
"You’re a nice surprise in my day."
ARC generously provided by the author, and it was my pleasure to provide the above honest review in exchange.
From the first meeting I knew Tate and Olivia were going to make a great couple. They had a strong connection, the attraction between them was believable and I loved how at ease they were in each others company. After Tate's divorce, he was left feeling hurt, angry and insecure as a man. It warmed my heart watching him open himself up to Olivia. Olivia was the perfect woman for Tate, they were fun and sweet together and their chemistry was off the charts.
Overall, Wild Zone was a great read and a wonderful addition to the Rough Riders Hockey series. Each book can be read as a standalone, and I highly recommend them all!
This story…this one right here might just be my favorite of all the Rough Riders. I know that Tate was a bit of a jerk in the last book and that a lot of people didn’t like him. But I could see where he was coming from and even if you weren’t a fan, you would be after this story!
“Get. Some. Tonight. Or face an intervention.”
Tate has been in a slump. Ever since his divorce, no one has caught his eye, and not for lack of trying. Until her…
“There’s a good reason for the phrase ‘bearded for her pleasure.’ I want to feel it between my legs.”
Olivia is feisty, sassy, and a little lost. After a fallout with her family, she hasn’t been home for a quite a bit, but determined to make amends she takes a vacation, only to end up working.
“Everything between us is fucking lightning.”
This story was off the charts hot! The chemistry between Tate & Olivia was sizzling. And the two were absolutely perfect for each other. I loved how they challenged one another, yet were always there.
I adored this entire series and I loved that we got to see so much of the other couples in this story, especially Beckett & Eden. This story was the perfect mix of sexy, funny, emotional, and love! Skye, keep writing these hot men that I can’t get enough of please! -Tiffany, 5 stars
Oh yeah. I was loving Wild Zone. This was my first time reading from the Rough Riders series and I'm totally hooked! I can't wait to get back to book one and meet all the guys on the team. Love when I get that feeling.
Okay so the quick and dirty is that Tate's friend is getting married and he's the best man. He's off women but the caterer's sister has totally caught his eye. Troublesome since he'll have to be working with her on a couple things the next spell. And her life...not so simple at the moment either.
So. Why was it great? Yummy hero-- he's broody and charismatic and all kinds of hunky. Awesome heroine--she knows what she wants, is a talented chef, and has a kind heart. Scorching hot chemistry and luscious sex scenes--seriously...omg. I'm a jealous bitch. lol And food. Delicious food. Noms times ten. lol Yes, I love when a character is a foodie-type so a heroine who's a chef was right up my ally. I read this one in just a couple sittings (darn having to be an adult and actually work) and had a blast with it.
There was a little drama with her family. Her mom and sister about tested my last nerve. They run a catering business that they've way overextended and instead of actually listening to Olivia who knows the ins and outs of the foodie world and has experience they just keep doing what they want and digging the whole deeper while using her cooking talents. I was feeling stabby, yall.
My only complaints were that she let her mom/sister off WAY too easily and then there were some pretty glaring errors even in the final copy--hero being called the wrong name a couple times and a scene where they've gotten in bed after a shower and then suddenly he's washing her hair and turning off the shower they've already been out of for a while. So that was unfortunate and what took this down to a 3.5 for me.
I love it when an author can redeem a character I wasn’t sure I liked and Skye Jordan did just that in Wild Zone. Tate Donovan was a bit of an a$$ in the last book in this series and I honestly felt like he needed some anger management sessions so it thrilled me to no end that Ms. Jordan paired Tate with someone who messed with his orderly, by the book, life. I loved the interactions between the hero and heroine; their crazy attraction was addicting to watch and while they struggled to get their relationship right, I think that will only benefit them in the long run. Wild Zone was intoxicating, exciting, fun, and so very, very sexy and it was over much too soon!
Tate Donovan’s orderly life has been turned upside down in the last couple of years; he caught his wife cheating, he’s been through a divorce, he’s had to watch his team mates fall in love and be sickening happy including his best friend who after years of denying his attraction is now engaged to his little sister. When he helps out a woman at his friend’s engagement party he has no idea how much she will change his life.
Fresh off an airplane from France, Olivia Essex is happy to check out the party her mother and sister are coordinating but when she can’t get through the door without an invitation. When a man helps her get in, she feels a connection with him immediately, but then her family needs her and she feels sure she’s lost her opportunity to get to know him better.
Holy smokin’ sexy times, first and foremost this couple starts off with off the charts attraction and a night they both assume will be only one night, however they soon find they’ll be working on a project together which puts them squarely in each other’s path once again. Tate is leery, he doesn’t want to get his heart stomped on again, but he has some people in his life that make him see that if he never takes a chance he might miss out on something great. Olivia is a bit of a wild card, but even she can’t deny that what she feels with Tate is way different than any other experience she’s had in her life. I loved that Olivia made Tate want to step out of his comfort zone and that he made her feel special and wanted. These two end up sharing quite a bit about their pasts and realize what they have is something special, but Olivia has big plans and Tate has a career that will keep him in Washington, D.C. for the near future and once they decide to figure it out long distance, her family issues once again crop up and sends her spiraling. While I loved the time spent with Tate and Olivia, at times I felt her family issues overshadowed their relationship. I wanted more time with them; I wanted to see them really getting to know one another and sharing just normal, ordinary days without the tension from her family in the background or the threat of them being apart.
High on sexiness with a hero and heroine I want to spend more time with, Hot Zone is an excellent addition to Skye Jordan’s Rough Riders Hockey series.
Wild Zone is the last novel in the amazing Rough Riders Hockey series. I thoroughly enjoyed each story which can be read as standalone. Although the books do flow in a consecutive order, there are no spoilers of what happened between the previous couples.
I was generally pleased with how Tate's story comes to play. I loved that his story was different from his friends/teammates. I loved that his past explains why he was emotional shut off. I loved that Ms. Jordan gives the audience a new view on how some athletes are. Meaning, they're not all serial playboys.
Olivia was also a different heroine as well. She's a breath of fresh air and definitely Tate's match. I love that her character is both strong and raw. She can handle anything under pressure. She's a woman who means what she says and expects the same from those close to her. Her foundation is trust. Something her family fractures with their secrets. Secrets that hurt. Secrets that turn into lies when the heart is at risk.
Although I enjoyed the series, this particular book loses stars for two reasons:
*Wild Zone needs to be proof read, again. Usually I can over look grammatical errors, but this book had a little more than a few. Some of the grammatical errors really threw what the character's point off. Some of the words were used in the wrong context and some were repetitive.
*No Epilogue. I know the rule of thumb is, "You're not the author, you can't tell the author how to write their story." This true, and I completely respect that. However, from the readers stand point, when you end a series as detailed as this was, an epilogue goes a long way. Especially the final book of a series. A reader is looking for that final scene in which all the characters come together for the "After Happily Ever After". This particular series is about teammates who were struck with such an intense romantic connection. Something they hadn't felt before. An epilogue would've wrapped up the series nicely. I was looking forward to seeing the farewell of a team that are as close as family. Tate and Olivia ended with a HEA, but it would have been better if the series came to full circle and not just ended.
Overall, this was a great series. I loved all the characters and stories. Despite my opinion, I still recommend this series as a must read.
I wasn’t sure what Tate’s story was going to be…he didn’t make such a good impression on me in Dirty Score. He was the protective big brother, but he was just a little over-the-top. But I’m so happy to say I think he’s my new favorite Rough Rider! He’s so sweet and caring, and flat-out loveable.
I just love me a vulnerable, slightly damaged hero; who, because of circumstances beyond his control, has been left feeling somewhat insecure about himself. Tate hasn’t been the same man his friends and family knew him to be since his divorce. He just seems to be going through the motions until a chance run-in with a woman who will make him realize all he’s been missing.
Tate and Olivia have a really awesome connection. I loved how they complemented each other so perfectly. She brought him back to life and out of his shell. He made her stop and think about how she’s been living her life. I was so anxious for them both to understand that there didn’t have to be an expiration date to their relationship!
There’s so much more to this book than just Tate and Olivia’s love story, although that is the best part of the book! Olivia has a lot on her plate, with worrying about not only her future, but her mother’s and sister’s as well. There was quite a bit of family drama between the three, and both mother and sister needed knocked upside their heads. At times I was completely frustrated by what was happening, but Olivia is a better woman than I am and handled things so gracefully.
Overall this is a really terrific addition to the Rough Riders series. I love getting to know each of the guys individually, and seeing what makes them tick. They all have such distinct personalities, it's fun to see where Skye takes each of them.
When Tate’s wife cheats and leaves him, his desire for the opposite sex fades. By this time in his life, he expected to be starting a family. Not starting over. With women throwing themselves at him left and right, all his buddies falling dick first into love, poor Tate is left to suffer in silence until she walks in.
When Olivia returned home, it was only supposed to be a quick trip to visit, to help her mother and sister and then head back to Europe to finally live her dream. But when she discovers just what a disaster is waiting for her, the only thing that is keeping her mind off the mess of her family is Tate Donovan.
Tate knows it is dangerous to fall into bed with a woman who has no plans on sticking around, but he can’t help but take the few moments with her he can get. But when the shit begins to hit the fan, she quickly realizes that although Tate might give her different feelings than any man before, he sure is doing the same thing that everyone else in her life has done to her.
I expected Tate’s story to hold a bit more emotions. Given his split from his wife, his lack of interest in trying at love again and then suddenly finding a woman who is perfect for him, but isn’t planning on sticking around... he had one helluva fight on his hands.
I loved that Olivia – although a free spirit and having her own issues with intimacy, didn’t fight too hard her feelings for Tate. She was loyal to a fault and it just broke your heart having to watch her give and give and give, while so much was taken from her.
If you are looking for a solid series to pick up, this is your series. It’s hot, well written, each story gives you something different and you will fall in utter love with this cast of characters.
I love Skye Jordan and read everything she writes. I would have given the book a higher rating, and I enjoyed the story well enough, but there were too many problems with copy editing; incorrect or missing words, typos, incorrect names and pronouns. It's very distracting to be caught up in the story-line and suddenly a word is missing or it refers to Beckett when is should be Tate (when did Beckett come into the scene???). I have to re-read the sentence to make sense. It stops me cold, like running into a wall. It was quite disappointing; I've come to expect better from Ms. Jordan. This increased in frequency and detracted from the story as it progressed. At one point the couple were finished with their shower and Tate talks about drying off and taking Olivia to the bed. In the next paragraph he's shampooing her hair!
I generally don't finish reading books that have fewer editing problems, and have added the authors to my do-not-read list. I only continued reading because I expect so much more from Skye Jordan. This book failed miserably to live up to my expectations and I'm terribly disappointed.
I loved this story! This is the second book I have read in this series (all standalones!), and I am absolutely hooked. These books are sweet and VERY spicy, and they have a "happy for now" ending that continues on in the background of subsequent books.
You. Will. Love. Tate. He's not the typical "I'm an alpha and sleep with tons of women until I find 'the one." Nope. After being emotionally wounded by his ex-wife, Tate is holding out for 'the one' 100%, physically and emotionally. His sense of honor and commitment were so endearing, and I was in his corner from the beginning.
Olivia was fun and a "hey, why not?" kind of person. I loved the instant connection she had with Tate, and their first interaction had me sold on this book and eagerly turning the pages!
I'm so happy that hockey teams have so many players, because I can't get enough of this series!!!
(I received a copy of this book in consideration of an honest review)
The only reason this is getting 4 stars is because I liked Tate. He annoyed me in the last book with the whole Mia & Rafe situation but he definitely redeemed himself in this book. I got a better look at him and he really wears his heart on his sleeve. I enjoyed that about him. He didn't mess around and i liked that. Now...Olivia. It seems these past two books had a theme. Really really bad Heroines in my eyes. I did NOT like her character at all. I found her to be just a plain bitch. Even though he family was in the wrong, she continued to blame them even when they tried to get through to her because they loved & missed her. I understand & validate her hurt, but she seemed to only pin the blame on her Mother & twin but idolized her father. Did she not realize that her father was also one of the ones who decided that she wasn't to be told about him being sick. Throughout the whole book, I was waiting for the anger she had for her mom & sis to be directed towards her father...but no...never. Anyway, I also didn't like her treatment of Tate. Anytime anything got a little crazy, she would turn away or run. Tate was always there for her, always there to support her in anyway she needed. But when things got a little dicey...she just split. And personally, at the end, I feel if her schooling would have started right away and not been pushed back that she would have gotten on that plane without a second glance...but the author had her not being able to get on the plane because she couldn't think about leaving Tate...hmmmmmmm not buying it. If her actions proved anything about her throughout the book, it made that reason very unbelievable. She never once fought for Tate. I dunno....just did not like her.Tate's character deserved someone better, someone who would fight to stay with him as much as he fought to stay with Olivia. ahhhhh ok...rant done!
In Wild Zone Tate “The Saint” Donovan, hockey player on the Washington DC Rough Riders meets Olivia, a beautiful young woman with a carefree attitude toward life and they each find the balance in the other to start a relationship.
She has family problems with her twin sister and her mom; he has insecurity issues from the fall out of a divorce. Together they find the foundation for a relationship and although the time is short they develop an understanding for a future.
Family gets in the way, trust becomes an issue until they both make changes to give the relationship time with time to plan a future. Nice sports story with hot sex, lots of emotion and support of people doing good in the world by supporting charities, coaching kids and making a difference.
Tate didn’t do much to endear himself to me in the last book (Dirty Score), so I approached this fourth Rough Riders book with some trepidation. I shouldn’t have worried. Skye Jordan is an expert in making her rough tough heroes vulnerable, and isn’t afraid to put them through the emotional wringer while she’s at it. In fact, there’s not a lot about this Tate that reminds me of the man in the last book. He’s much more understanding, for one thing, and his protective instincts have been dialled back several notches. Which meant that while it was fun to see him get his comeuppance, I also felt bad for him several times.
Olivia is independent and uninhibited, values honesty above everything and appears to be one of those amazingly lucky people who has never done anything wrong in her entire life, so can sit in sad judgement over others. That might be a little harsh, and I could see why the actions of her mother in particular hurt her so badly, but there were times when I wasn’t so fond of her and her righteous indignation. Mostly during her second meeting with Tate. Something about the way she acted then really got to me. There are times when she seems to think that it’s okay to hurt people as long as she’s honest, because she already warned them, even when her actions suggest otherwise. She does have a streak of carefree selfishness that sprung up a time or two and her habit of running away from tricky situations rather than standing and fighting stopped me from liking her completely.
Although anything to do with her mother made me rethink that, because wow, that woman is a piece of work. I really, really felt for Quinn being stuck at home. Sure, she and Olivia don’t always see eye-to-eye, but Olivia really needs to get over her pity party and support her sister a bit more, because of the two of them, Quinn has the rougher deal. Having said that, there were moments when I wanted to smack Tate around the head for not listening to what Olivia was saying to him. If ever there was a clear line in the sand, Olivia drew it for him.
All of which might hint that this book is about more than the romance. This series has always been about more than just sexy times, but this time around the emotions are definitely taken up a notch, with plenty of strained relationships and the problem with falling for someone who lives on a different continent. Especially when Tate is the kind of guy who falls fast and hard, no matter how young a relationship is, and Olivia is the type never to fall at all. They’re both heart sore and wounded at first, yet somehow, someway, they find common ground amidst all their differences. And with the help of some scorching chemistry, they make a pretty impressive team.
So if you’re looking for a hot read that’s also high on family drama and isn’t afraid to throw plenty of obstacles in the romance’s way, then give this a go. You get plenty of glimpses of the Rough Riders team and a little bit of hockey training, but mostly this is about Olivia’s family and Tate’s battered heart. It’s sexy and enjoyable and emotional, and neatly flips the player hero and romantic heroine trope on its head. I hope there will be more to come from this series, because I'm not nearly ready enough to let go of them all yet.
Wild Zone's hero, Tate Donovan, was featured prominently in the previous Rough Riders book as the grumpy, growly brother to Dirty Score's heroine and the teammate/best friend to its hero. He was such an irritating, grouchy control freak that I gleefully looked forward to seeing him get his comeuppance in his own story. I was certain the author would give him a strong heroine who would turn his world upside down. I knew too that this woman would also mend the bruised ego and broken heart his ex wife had ripped out and stomped on.
It's almost as if Skye Jordan peeked inside my head, because she delivered that and more.
Despite ample opportunities, since his divorce Tate hasn't been attracted to or wanted to be with another woman. He's the rare man who isn't into one night stands, and no woman has tempted him to risk his heart again.
Until Olivia Essex.
Olivia is back in the U.S. for a couple of weeks visiting her mother and twin sister before heading back to Paris to realize a lifelong dream. Olivia has her own reasons for not wanting more than a night of pleasure from men, so she wholeheartedly embraces the casual and carefree European attitude towards sex. She enjoys men, exploring her sensuality, and isn't shy about making her desires known.
Tate is completely captivated and a little bit dazed by Olivia's beauty, honesty, and directness. Their one night together is the most erotic either has experienced, and it isn't easily forgotten. Both crave another taste. Thus begins their journey.
I straight up loved this story. The storyline hooked me with the opening sentence and kept me totally invested until the last. Tate, having left his grumpiness behind, was practically swoon worthy, and I fell hard for him. Olivia's confidence, sexual freedom, and forthrightness was a refreshing change from the average romance heroine, and she quickly became one of my favorites. Most of the supporting cast was from the previous Rough Rider books, so it was fun seeing them again.
A secondary storyline involving Olivia's family was, for me, as compelling as the romance. It eerily mirrored my own family dynamics, so I deeply felt Olivia's emotions, understood her motivations, and empathized greatly with her.
Wild Zone has everything that readers have come to expect from a Skye Jordan novel: a sexy hero, strong heroine, sizzling sexytimes beyond compare, and an enthralling romance. It will make you laugh, cry, cheer, and tingle in a most delicious way. I highly recommend it, as well as the entire Rough Rider series.
4.5 stars
I had the opportunity to read and review an advance copy.
Skye Jordan is on a four-game winning streak with WILD ZONE, the fourth book in the Rough Riders Hockey series. Tate Donovan has not been interested in dating since his divorce. That is until he meets the most intriguing woman, Olivia Essex, at his friend’s engagement a party. Too bad she lives in Paris and will only be around for three weeks. This story takes place in Washington, DC. It is appropriate for new adult and adult audiences.
I was a little disappointed in Tate in book 3, Dirty Score. I must say, I absolutely fell in love with him in WILD ZONE. He is an amazing guy. His ex-wife, Lisa, was an idiot for cheating on him. Lisa did a number on Tate. My heart broke for him. However, all things happen for a reason, and he is much better off with Olivia. Tate is incredible with the kids at his hockey camp. He has an amazing family and friends. I love how he defends Olivia to her family. I like his values.
Olivia is a fun character. She is intelligent and a talented chief. She is adventurous and wants to live life to the fullest. She tells it how it is. She isn’t star-struck by people. She left home ten years prior, after being lied to by her family, causing her to have some trust issues. She has matters she needs to resolve with her twin and her mother, who she truly cares about and loves despite the things that happened during the past. She will do anything for the people she loves.
I enjoyed how Tate and Livvy met. I appreciate how they make each other happy. I love that Olivia and Tate both support each other in everything they do. They each grow and become happier for it.
Olivia’s twin, Quinn, rubbed my wrong a few times. I was disappointed in how she treated and talked about her sister. I like how her character evolves throughout the story. I wouldn’t mind seeing her get involved with one of the guys from the team in a future book.
I could not put WILD ZONE down. I ended up with a book hangover from lack of sleep, but it was well worth it. WILD ZONE is heartfelt with many interesting twists. It has a great ending. I have been continually impressed by Skye Jordan’s Rough Riders Hockey series. It is well written. The hockey scenes are exciting and believable. The plot is meaningful and full of emotion. I am so glad that I discovered this series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Finally the good guy gets his girl. If anyone deserved somebody to love and to love him back, it was definitely Tate. Being such a good guy, a one-woman man, one would have expected him to be amongst the first to settle down and yeah he did. But the woman he chose left him shattered and disillusioned. So when Olivia Essex is the first woman to stir his interest in a long time, he follows his instincts. Olivia is a nomad, a woman of the world. Starting anything with her means it has an expiry date. And Tate understands that; it's his heart that doesn't get it. Olivia too realizes that the feelings she's experiencing for Tate are a first for her, but staying is still not an option, so they decide to see where it goes and take it from there.
The one thing that Olivia can't handle is secrets that lead to lies. And when Tate unwillingly gets roped into withholding information that he knows Olivia would want, he endangers a relationship with the one woman that might be his soulmate.
I received an Advanced Reader's Copy from the author for voluntary review consideration
Of course Tate Donovan had to turn out to be one of the nice guys. UHG! Tate is the guy you hate to love.
In the last book Dirty Score, you got a taste of the jerk that couldn't get over himself and let Rafe and Mia be. Through out the whole book, I wanted to smack him, but not during this book. Nope I wanted to wrap him in my arms and tell him everything would be ok. He's a big softy. Who knew!
As always Skye Jordan does a phenomenal job writing her characters. The are always well thought out, and I even think that Olivia was especially well planned. She was a very complex character. I can't believe that I'm saying this but I wanted to smack her through out this book. I mean seriously! Pull up your big girl panties, your family did what they did because they love you (I'm say this because something similar happened to me, and I refused to let it define me).
Regardless of my dislike for Olivia, this book was amazing, and I hope Ms. Skye keeps going with this series. I'm eager to see who's on the block next.
The first thing to say is that this is well written and overall it's a good series but this one really let it all down
It's Tate and Olivis's book
Some issues I had : The last book focused on Rafe and Tate's friendship saying how like brothers they'd been since childhood. Well Rafe doesn't get a look in. A mention but no conversation etc. set just weeks after Rafe's book Tate's best friend is now Bennett Croft. Someone he has known for c5 years. Just weird and not believable.
Apparently Olivia's adherence to one night stands is all down to her living in Europe. Europeans apparently are all commitment phobes who don't respect relationships. God how insulting! Especially as the last three books all focussed on men who were manwhores. And guess what American ones!! And of course American Mia wasn't exactly a parrgon of virtue. As a European I can say it's rubbish.
And given Olivia's history of shagging all these European men, Tate decides no condom is the way to go
Plus there were mistakes typos, grammar, continuity etc
Tate Donovan and Olivia Essex are c'est magnifique together. From the first moments they set eyes on each other, they sizzle. Olivia brings a light hearted zest for life to Tate that has been missing for years. However, they've both got issues from their pasts that could stop a relationship before it gets started. Add to that, Olivia is only home for a few weeks then she returns to Paris to finally fulfill her dream of attending culinary school. Family drama comes into play which pulls them apart even though the love each other.
This book is the best so far in the Rough Riders Series. Skye Jordan's writing makes the characters come to life and gets her reader invested in the storyline. I don't read sports romance normally but I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Tate, Tate, Tate, Tate. After Tate's reaction to Mia dating Rafe in the last book, I wasn't sure I liked him. But after reading this book, I have a better understanding about Tate and why he was so bitter toward women. And Olivia, at first, I thought she was a bit selfish and childish in her relationship with her family, but it just goes to show, don't judge someone until you know the whole story because once she opened up to Tate as to why she is the way she is with her family, I totally understood where she was coming from. Another great read in this series, and I just love when we see recurring characters progressing in their relationships from previous books. It makes me feel like I am there and living the life with them.
A jaded heartthrob with a ton of love but no one to share it with. A flightless free spirit that knows her mind and follows her heart. Wild Zone is amazing. Ms. Jordan has me addicted to these bad boys of the ice. It's nice to come across a man that understands romance on a deeper level than hormones and innuendos. Tate was the perfect man when he followed his heart. Olivia was a dream chaser. Her broken heart gave her the incentive to take chances and live every moment to the fullest. Wild Zone delivered a journey of faith in a sensuous package.
I would love to give this 5 stars because it really sucked me in. But with getting to 47% and the book end with them leaving on a plane, I can't give it more than 3. It seriously pissed me off!
At 31 years old, Tate Donovan’s personal life is nothing like he thought it would be; with his recent divorce and his aversion to relationships and women, Tate’s finding it difficult to be happy for his teammates’ newfound happiness, which was extremely evident in his reactions and actions in Dirty Score, the previous book in the Rough Riders series. But a feisty, free-spirited woman might just be what Tate needs to let down his walls and learn to trust again.
Olivia Essex leads a very nomadic life. She’s all about living life to its fullest, experiencing new things, new people, and new places. But what she refuses to experience is any form of commitment or love because those kinds of feelings and relationships can lead to betrayal and devastation, and she just doesn’t have it in her to go through that kind of pain again. But when Olivia meets Tate Donovan and instantly feels a connection with him, she doesn’t feel as hollow or as lost and for the first time in her adult life, she might just want to make plans and have commitments because what they have together might be worth the risk of heartbreak.
Wild Zone is a perfect title for Tate and Olivia’s book because the intense bond they share from their very first encounter makes them willingly let go of their typical ways of living and how they handle the opposite sex, which proves how affected they are by each other, but it also causes over thinking and creates a set of complications that might destroy them regardless of knowing their connection can’t last past Olivia’s return to Paris.
Besides the fact that Tate and Olivia live on two different continents, Olivia also has family issues that prevent her from trusting anyone fully, which doesn’t bode well for Tate and Olivia because the damage her mother and sister have done and continue to do to her leaves her exposed in a way that she might not be able to come back from further complicating what’s supposed to be an intense bond with spectacular sex.
I really enjoyed Tate and Olivia’s story. The way Olivia lives her life and the outlook on life that she has is exactly what Tate needs at this time in his life, and although the intensity of their relationship happens so quickly, Skye Jordan does a good job of explaining that a lightning quick connection can happen when someone finds the exact person they need to feel whole and accepted.
Jordan’s Rough Riders series continues to tell fast-paced, steamy, and intense stories that readers can connect to and enjoy because each couple goes through realistic situations and experience the highs and lows of life that are easy to connect with and understand.
Tate Donovan is happy that his teammates are finding love but it is no longer on the cards for him. He gave up looking for the one when he found out his ex-wife was using their bed for more than sleeping while he was on the ice. The last thing he wants to do is start dating again but when he’s at his friend’s engagement party he meets Olivia who fascinates him more than he thought was possible. He wants to spend time with her and get to know her but he knows she has no plans on staying in town. Will Tate be able to change her mind and give them a chance?
Olivia Essex is home from France to help her family’s catering company get back in the black. She didn’t really plan to work while she is home but they need the help and besides it’s only for a few weeks before she leaves to go back to France to attend culinary school. The last thing this free spirit is looking for is love but she is up for a good time while she is there. The time she spends with Tate is amazing but then she finds out he’s been keeping a secret that breaks her heart and forces her to realize she cares more about him than she thought she would. With school coming up she has a hard decision to make, she just hopes she makes the right one.
Wild Zone was another winner by Skye Jordan and I absolutely loved Tate and Olivia together. In the previous book, Dirty Score, I didn’t care for Tate and his big brotherly tendencies. He came off as a real jerk so many times so I was glad to see that he could redeem himself in Wild Zone. Olivia’s trust issues revolve around her family keeping secrets so I think I understood why keeping secrets was a big deal breaker for her. After all how you can you actually trust someone after that? While Tate and Olivia might be as different as night and day they came together beautifully and really started to open up to one another.
One thing that really bothered me about Wild Zone was all the family drama that was centered around Olivia and then later Tate. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m used to reading close families in romance novels or that this was just a little overdone. I could see it happening once but it was a constant thing throughout the entire story.
The Rough Riders series continues to grow on me with the humor, love and of course the hot hockey players. Ms. Jordan gives her readers realistic situations and a HEA that is always swoon worthy. I hope Wild Zone isn’t the end of the Rough Riders series and there will be more to come later this year.
Hot hockey guys and delicious food. Who wouldn’t want to read about that? Wild Zone by Skye Jordan is a delectable sexy story filled with everything you expect in a Skye Jordan book. It has the engaging plot, flawed characters, fun dialogue, and insanely hot intimate scenes that have you hanging on each word written.
Wild Zone is the fourth book in the Rough Riders series, but each is written so you can read it as a stand alone. In this one we are treated to Tate and Olivia’s story. They are both struggling with trust issues. Tate is dealing with lingering self-esteem issues after catching his ex-wife cheating on him and Olivia is still nursing the hurt of something kept from her by those closest to her. When the two of them meet for the first time, you just know the chemistry is going to be off the charts.
Jordan writes this erotic tale in such an emotional way that your heart is pulled all over the place. The feelings of each character jump off the page and you feel along with them, whether it’s happy, sad, frustrated, or turned on. I so enjoyed Olivia’s fresh personality in Wild Zone. She was pretty straight forward and to the point. With some prodding, Tate went after what he wanted and they tried to make things work even through the huge obstacles thrown their way. They were both unique characters that you don’t read in traditional romance. They almost felt more real than most. I loved every minute of it!
Wild Zone is a quick, sexy, contemporary romance story that whisks you away from reality and lets you enjoy the life of Tate and Olivia for a bit. I highly recommend you give it a shot.
Skye's author's voice just keeps slapping the puck into the goal! This was her best book to date. She has an uncanny ability to take damaged souls and bring them together to find love and healing without to being forced. I was pleased my life kept me busy enough that I could string out this story so it wouldn't end. You know some books you don't want them to end. I can't wait for her to get back to these Rough Riders again.
Tate was so hurt by his wife's betrayal and he's not dealing well with his life being derailed from what he thought it would be at 31, no wife, no kids. Olivia has huge hurts from her family when she was 18 and every time she comes home to visit they go right back there again. She's managed to become a talented chef without formal schooling and bails her mother and twin sister out instead of the vacation she thought she'd have. Her mother and sister refuse to acknowledge and allow her to help the family business with what she's learned in the 10 years she's been away from home.
Tate and Olivia find they have an electric and powerful magnatism the first time they meet. It's supposed to be just one night but Tate isn't a one-night guy. Olivia has never tasted anyone like Tate and finds he fulls the hole in her soul while Olivia lights Tate's dead heart. Oh such passion, yum...
Love, love, love Skye's stories. I was given an ARC for review with no strings attached.
Summary: The fire was hot, but it left burn marks and scars, all of which were left open to the environment, unpatched. I needed the wound dressing.
Series: Rough Riders Hockey | Book No. 4
Review: It’s weird right to complain about feeling like you didn’t get HEA when it insinuates that there will be one, it feels incomplete, unfinished, this series conclusion left me unsatisfied.
Also, what is it with Sports romance books happening in the off season so you never see the sport, I don’t think it should count as a sports romance at that point, heck, I’m not counting it as a sports romance.
I wanted to fall in love with every ounce of these characters, I wanted a damned redemption arc for Tate, who has no right to treat his best friend the way he treated him in the last book.
I wanted to be obsessed with the European hearted woman (also, it’s funny to see an American describe Americans as if she wan’t one, but I get it, enough time in Europe with convert almost any soul into an European one).
The use of French felt weirdly placed.
For a short time I saw this plot moving in the direction of a conclusion, but blast is all, I still don’t see how “we will learn each other” is an HEA, it isn’t, not for me, no for my shattered scattered heart. Overall the struggle felt unresolved, the solution seems off.

Tate Donavon was a grumpy, jaded man that just needed to find the right girl to bring him out of his funk. Since his divorce he was not even attracted to any woman that crossed his path and he just isn't the one-night stand type of guy. Then in walks Olivia Essex and his entire body zinged back to life. Olivia is a no nonsense type of girl that is open and honest in everything she does. She too is affected by Tate in a way she has never experienced. Since she's only in town for a couple of weeks before she returns to Paris to attend culinary school, they both decide to make the most of their time together. However things escalate quickly and their feelings for each other skate into overdrive. From there they hit a crack in the ice and neither knows how to repair the damage done.
Skye Jordan does it again. These Rough Riders just keep bringing the heat and the feels. Olivia was a breath of fresh air in her openness and honesty and Tate with his gruff self sure did bring passion into their relationship. After Tate's antics in Dirty Score he was not high on my list of favorite characters, but he totally redeemed himself! All around great book.
