Starter Pack

Rate this book
This Starter Pack consists of 3 short stories that take place before the first in each series.

Calling of a King: This spoiler free piece takes place before Britt- heroine of the King Arthur and Her Knights series - is drawn back through time to ancient Britain to serve as a substitute for the legendary King Arthur.

Queen Ruby & Princess Snow: This mixed-up fairytale is an original short story. It has no ties to any of my fairy tale adaptations; however, for a similar tale, check ouy "The Unicorn Procession" in the freebies section of my website.

Before the Bond: This short story is set centuries before the events of Red Rope of Fate and gives you a glimpse of how the humans of Calnor and the Lesser Elves of Lessa became allies.

After reading The Prince’s Bargain I was still feeling in the mood for more of this author’s work so I decided to pick up this short story collection and I really enjoyed all of them!

Calling of a King

Really enjoyed seeing where Merlin and Britt were before the start of King Arthur and Her Knights though grumpy, complaining Merlin (even if it’s only to himself 😂) is absolutely the best.

‼️Content‼️

Other: magic; a character is a wizard

Queen Ruby and Princess Snow

I had no idea where this story was going as it was both puzzling in a where the heck is this going? kind of way and hilarious at the same time. Not to mention the twist at the end was the best thing ever! This one was my favorite of the entire collection!

‼️Content‼️

Violence: a woman slaps a girl

Before the Bond

I liked seeing the beginning of Calnor and Lessa’s friendship as two countries waaay before the main series begins.

‼️Content‼️

None

Trials of a First Knight

I haven’t read any of this author’s urban fantasy series yet but this story makes me more than eager to dive in! Very curious to see more of this world and these vampires.

‼️Content‼️

Other: vampires, werewolves, wizards, and fae

The Princess Who Chased Sheep

Another fun story! I liked the whit of our main character and how she adapted to her new life as a shepherdess really well and quickly. The only thing I wasn’t fond of was the romance which felt a bit fast and superficial but it’s a short story so I’ll let my picky nature with romance slide this once. 😉

‼️Content‼️

Language: darn

Violence: accusations of kidnapping; weapons are pointed at people

Sexual: kissing (not detailed)

Three, free short stories by Shea. Two are very quick reads that tie into other novels, and one is a stand alone twist on the Snow White story. For what they are, they are well done. But I will stress these are SHORT and provided free from the author when you sign up for her newsletter. A nice bonus!

It's hard to review a starter pack, consisting of a few stand-alone short stories and a few prologues or short stories connected to existing series. However, if you don't know K.M. Shea, are curious to get a glimpse of the different kind of stories she writes, her writing style and her storytelling style, this is the perfect way to do so! You get the starter pack when signing up for the newsletter and there is more free material to find on her website!

A bunch of fun short stories (5 or 6?). They don't all tie in to the other series she wrote, but then all feel very much like her other work. The endings of these short stories are okay, but I prefer the longer series myself. Definitely worth picking up, especially as you get it free when you sign up for the author's newsletter.

I really enjoyed the first 4 stories in this starter pack. I especially enjoyed the Snow White story because it was a fun take on the Fairytale. The 5th story was mostly just ok. Not bad just not for me really. This really was a good sample of K.M. Shea's writing style. If you like these stories you will likely enjoy some of her novels.

I was so excited to return to this world and learn something at Christina... Not!! So short it was barely there and I did not get the end reference about being wrong twice?!?

a good introduction to K.M's work. I especially liked the Queen Ruby and Princess Snow take on Snow White. Um sorry bit of a spoiler but come on the title gave it away. I'm glad I got the pack.
