Shares Wigglesworth's personal experiences of salvation, physical healing, and baptism in the Holy Spirit to encourage others to experience God more fully.
“God has something better for you than you ever had in the past.”
Excellent series of seven sermons on baptism of the Holy Spirit, among other things. Based solely on scripture and anecdotal examples. Wigglesworth (1859 - 1947) was an American Pentecostal. In his day as today Pentecostalism was a minority view within Christians. Wigglesworth believed in the sole authority of the Bible, the in-dwelling of the Holy Spirit and Glossolalia (speaking in tongues) all of which are reflected in this work.
“When someone received the gift of the Holy Ghost, there will assuredly be no difference between his experience today and that which was given on the Day of Pentecost.”
Though this book was "first published" in 1966, Wigglesworth died in 1947. It serves as an excellent study in the essentials of Pentecostal Christianity.
“There are two sides to this Baptism: the first is that you possess the Spirit; the second is that the Spirit possesses you.”
One thing I really appreciated. The book is only 64 pages long because that's how much material he had to publish. Modern authors would have stretched it to twice that (assumedly to justify a higher price) with blank pages, side bars, and repetition. This is a more honest approach.
“Are you hungry? God promises you shall be filled.”
Smith Wigglesworth was born in the 1800s. He was known for having faith and walking in it. In this book, he shares scripture and antecdotes from his journey. People were healed not only when he touched them, but also by being in the room where the presence of the Holy Spirit was strong. He raised the dead. Just as Jesus told the disciples in Matthew 10:6b-8, "go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give."
He encourages, invites and leads one to scripture to live a life filled with all of what we were called to do as believers! Wonderful, short book. I am left inspired and on fire!
you don't know what faith is until you read smith wigglesworth.
here was a man who lived his life in the unkown. the life that many of us Christians can only wish to achieve.
The man had battles and fears and trust that God will show up and God always did, God was faithful to those who believed in Him. sadly though many are now looking on and waxing poetic about the past life of what we once were.
Read this book and see that God is now looking and has always been looking for a believer who would take God at His word and trust him. this grace of faith was worked out to a level that only few attain but for those of us who do believe. this was only a sample an introduction of what is possinle in God.
I highly recommend this book to the reader, that God would show yp and show off is my expectation. and I think that all who read it will have a life that has more expectations for faith miracles to show up.
we are always asking now in our modern age of chrisianity, "How do I pray? how do I worship? does god still move? will God heal me? can I be the change in the area that God is leading me? well my good friend. read this and be amazed.
this book will be like the gasoline to your fire in your soul. and I hope you read this and move in faith in God.
I highly recommend this Book for all Christian believers all who read this will be built and start looking at God as a God of possibilities. I know I have.
If I had a hardcopy this may have been a 5 star book. The book about listening to God and miracles was good, but it was hard to listen to the audiobook because the narrator sounded patronizing.
At the end of the book it is said that Smith was not someone people generally liked to be around when he wasn't ministering. However, God used him to help and heal many people, even if he was socially handicapped. 🙂 This reminds me of how Moses had a hard time speaking, but God used him to speak to kings.
Once I deciphered some of the older rhetoric Wigglesworth uses, the truth he's communicating is powerful stuff. Each chapter is interspersed with amazing stories that 'provoked me to jealousy' and the rest it's either challenging or eye opening Scripture. He calls us to believe we've been made for more than we can imagine, and I've loved quoting parts to others and hoping to create in them a longing for more along with me.
This book is such a faith builder . Takes you to a place of hunger for more of GODS spirit and a desire to move into the realm of miracles today. GOD has not changed ! I bought the narration to this book as well and it is very well done. Mr Crockett brings drama and enjoyment to every word he narrates.i highly recommend this book.
I like reading Smith Wigglesworth books, I will be so glad when the churches of this time will get on one a cord so that The miracles that He experienced will be seen in today's time. I'm talking about legs growing back, dead be risen, blinded eyes (physcal) will be opened.
I was seeking God one night and still needed to seek.in the morning. Before I even sat up, the name Smith Wigglesworth came to mind. I had heard of him and had thos book barely started. I read it this past few days until the end. It was later upon later if truth.
I'd like to have this kind of faith and passion for God to transform my life to use me for his glory, honour and praise! Even so, come Lord Jesus, use me for your glory Lord!!!
This was so rich and so humbling at the same time. We need more of God and less of self. We will never be what He's called us to be holding on to this fleshly life but in a life of the Spirit of God there is freedom and fullness for those who choose to believe.
The Word of God is Supernatural in origin, Eternal in duration, Inexpressible in value, Infinite in scope, Regenerative in power, Infallible in authority, Universal in interest, Personal in application, And inspired in totality.
Smith wigglesworth is such an inspiration. His examples demonstrate faith in real terms and his teachings accompanied with real examples will leave you spell bound.
In a time where I was lacking in faith, God lead me to this book and the testimony within built my faith to press into the season I was in. It led me closer to God and his heart, and understanding the necessity of faith in the Christian life.
I've already read this, but have read it again with my husband over the past few weeks. Both times, I've read this with ambivalence. In some ways I am encouraged and motivated to step out in faith, to believe that 'God has something better than I have ever had in the past,' and to not allow my mind to limit him or my actions. In other ways I honestly do feel skeptical about some of the miracles he reports.
If nothing else, I am encouraged by the call to grow in faith. Between readings of this book, I have stepped out in faith in some very difficult circumstances, and I look back now thankful for those choices. Many of the positive results from these choices were after a long time and not so immediate as many of Smith's reports, but I do believe anyone encouraging us to have more faith in the God of the impossible is a good thing.
I’d heard of Smith Wigglesworth and the power of faith he operated in. This book whether produced by him or another blessed me tremendously and pushed me in my faith a level higher. I heartily recommend it
Smith is a man after my own heart. The wHole SPirit is as real to him as any one he meets on the street. I am wanting to see him in Heaven as soon as possible!
