The Mischling

Rate this book
It's just before Christmas 1936 in Nazi Germany in the city of Frankfurt. Two families are making their preparations for the festive season, but in the Weiss family is the Mischling who is about to throw all their lives into turmoil and danger. John Webber gives us a bird's eye view of life in a pre-war German city and what it was like to try to live a normal life despite the march of the Nazis. This well researched and intensely atmospheric story also gives a fascinating glimpse into the medieval city of Frankfurt before it, like so many other cities in Europe, was destroyed by bombing. The Mischling is funny, frightening, absorbing and poignant.
