Frozen in Time The Ice Age is one of the most difficult eras in geological history for a uniformitarian (those who believe the earth evolved by "slow processes over millions of years") scientist to explain, simply because long ages of evolution cannot explain it. Many mysterious questions about the Ice Age arise: What would cause the summer temperatures of the northern United States and Europe to plummet over 50... Full description
As a pastor, teacher, and homeschool parent, I want to understand world history the best I can and I want to do it in a Biblical worldview. Upon realizing there was a "gap" in my understanding when it comes to the ice age, I purchased this book from Master Books. Frozen in Time by Michael Oard is an excellent book and a great addition to my studies.
This book covers the ice age from so many angles. I was especially appreciative of the great amount of data, illustrations, and evidence presented in the chapters. It was also nice to read the wide range of viewpoints that are covered in the book. Not only does Mr. Oard cover the why the uniformitarian theories and models do not work out to explain the past processes, but he explains why the Biblical model does work... There was only one trigger in all of world history strong enough to produce the ice age - the Genesis flood.
Mammoths and mastodons are important creatures and they were frozen in time. As my family and I see their fossils and see the interpretations of the evidence, I am better equipped now that I have this book. I would recommend it to other homeschool families as well as churches and pastors who love the truth of God's Word. Five stars for sure!
This was a fascinating book detailing the Ice Age that followed the Genesis Flood, and how it affected the wooly mammoths (there was also a super interesting chapter on neanderthals). I love learning about this stuff 🙂
This book is written by a meteorologist. Dr. Oard does a good job of the mechanisms that caused the ice age (it isn't what they taught you in the government school) and offers reasonable explanations for how megafauna (wooly mammoth, bison, wooly rhino, saber tooth cat, etc) could logically 1) survive in the arctic, which today is a very unproductive ecosystem today, 2) be buried so in such a way that their meat and stomach contents are preserved to this day, 3) survive in the Sahara Desert also, why they went extinct and many other realities that long age uniformitarian thinking struggles to explain. The book is written so that it isn't too technical, but it is generously referenced and foot noted. There are also good illustrations and charts to help understand the concepts. As a person who grew up in mammoth country in Alaska this has always been a puzzling mystery to me. The acronym HEAT makes sense of the actual data H = hot oceans E = massive evaporation A = aerosols T = time compresion (short period of time). This ice age is most reasonably explained by the Biblical flood of Noah, this book will answer questions and build your faith in the historical accuracy of the scriptures.
We took our time reading this book. My husband and I read most of it aloud to each other during his cancer treatments. We only had a chapter or two left when he died and I hated to think of reading it without him. But it is compelling information with so much evidence so I finally got back to it and finished learning about the contrary facts that stump the kind of scientists who start every explanation with "Millions of years ago...." I had no idea there were so many gaps in the generally accepted story about ice ages and what happened to the woolly mammoths. Great information! I think everyone should read it.
So, what did happen to the woolly mammoths? Michael Oard presents a thoughtful analysis of the question in Frozen in Time. Drawing on information from numerous scientists, especially those who would disagree with his position, Oard analyzes the current environment and climate of Siberia and Alaska, geographic information on glacial progress, and evidence on recovered fossils and frozen carcasses to come up with a hypothesis based on the Genesis flood.
I found his presentation scholarly, informative, and worthy of consideration. For me, this was not an easy read but it was not ponderous either. I highly recommend it.
"Frozen In Time: The Woolly Mammoths, the Ice Age, and the Biblical Key to Their Secrets" by Michael Oard is well-researched and well-written. Some chapters were fascinating and I'm glad I've read up more on the Ice Age period from a biblical creation perspective, but this just isn't my area of interest. As such, while the book was a high-quality read, I found it a hard slog. Strangely enough, 200+ pages about the Ice Age and mammoths is really just too much.
7/10 9/10 (if you enjoy this topic and enjoy great detail)
Chapters include:
1) Frozen Mammoth Carcasses in Siberia 2) Why Live in Siberia? 3) The Mystery of the Ice Age 4) A Mammoth Number of Mammoth Hypotheses 5) The Extinction Wars 6) The Multiplication of Ice Age Theories 7) The Genesis Flood Caused the Ice Age 8) The Snowblitz 9) The Peak of the Ice Age 10) Catastrophic Melting 11) Only One Ice Age 12) Do Ice Cores Show Many Tens of Thousands of Years? 13) Where Was Man During the Ice Age? 14) Mammoths Thrive Early in the Post-Flood Ice Age 15) Were Siberian Mammoths Quick Frozen 16) Extinction of the Woolly Mammoth
For a long time, I have wondered about the Quick Freeze Theory.I volunteered in the Paleo department of a Natural History Museum and saw and held first hand miss and flowers taken from a mammoths stomach, and was in awe of the remarkable preservation. At last, I have found a book that best explains the mammoth mystery through a Creationist lens.Excellent find, down to down writing, highly recommended!
This book answers so many questions about the Ice Age--arguably one of the most misunderstood eras in Earth's history--by presenting logical explanations and backing them up with real scientific evidence. It is a wonderful example of how true science and true religion fit perfectly together, and was a lot of fun to read because of that.
