I was looking through my manga app on my phone yesterday for something to read, and I stopped on this. It looked nice, and seemed interesting enough. So, I read Vol.1. Needless to say, I read the scanslations, which were done by Japanzai. So, much thanks to that group for doing this series.

The story is not overly complicated, and is similar to other series. But, I enjoyed it, and will be continuing it later. I also understand that alot of the ecchi stuff, like the big boobs is just fanservice and is aimed at boys/men, but it is not enough to keep a girl/woman from enjoying the story.

If you like angel/demon type stories, you should check this one out.

What is there to say about High School DxD? Well, if you're into T&A this is definitely a story you'll like, though I would recommend the anime if that's all you're looking for.

High School DxD tells the story of a young, perverted high school student who dies and is reincarnated as a devil. It's insanely funny, and actually has a pretty decent plot. I found the story to be an entertaining read, especially when I read about the antics Issei gets up to.

I will admit that it is not very realistic. Case in point, girls don't just randomly strip naked and then crawl into a guy's bed unless they're at least dating, and sometimes not even then. There were a number of times where I shook my head and thought "if only that were true" when reading this devilish tale of perversity.

That being said, if any of you are into the ecchi/harem type stories, this is definitely a story you won't wanna put down.

Fan service and over the top boobs - 5 stars, writing - 3 stars, art - 5 stars. I feel like I'm reading the inner thoughts of a horny teenage boy, but it is sheer comedy.

What I liked:
I like the art and how it was funny!
The manga has chibi (little) characters for the funny stuff. This graphic novel is really different from the anime. The artist doesn't show Rias boobs all the way.
This series has refences to anime/mangas like:
Dragonball, One piece, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and Pretty Cure.
The manga gave a lot more information and the battles were easy to follow.
The Priest is lame. He is so crazy.

What I didn't like:
The writing was ok. They spelled cause, cos and every time I saw it I was wondering what it meant.
I also didn't like the sound effects in the manga: It was not in English and I like it was written tiny. So I missed the sound effects.

Okay not going to lie I thought this just was one of THOSE mangas because of what I saw on the anime that my brother in law always put on. But it’s actually pretty decent I will say I’m enjoying it,it’s super funny as well!

A lot of people really love this series, I'm not to sure why. it doesn't even do ecchi that well, just having a naked girl doesn't entice people, some usually like a bit of teasing.

The story is about a guy who gets killed and then becomes a minion for a devil, she tells him that there is a war between devils and fallen angels. Which honestly really interested me, like do fallen angels become devils after they are corrupted. Instead the story focused on naked healing, touching boobs as a reward and three guys talking about porn. Having an interest in porn isn't a character trait but sadly that's all you get for the lead guy.

You also get a nun who wears a short skirt, every scene with her is a upskirt shot and yes you can see her vagina though her panties. If that's not enough, then she gets her top ripped open in one scene, did they really need to lewd a nun? I know people have got a fetish for it but seriously give me something more, the guy doesn't even react to it, so there is nothing but to entertain you.

It wasn't a completely awful read but there wasn't much in the way of story. I've read a few ecchi series before and they do it a lot better, instead slapping you with a naked girl. Part way through it gets really pretentious, trying compare itself to a chess game, it's not well thought out and just feels like they reaching too hard.

I finished it in about an hour- I didn’t put it down once! I watched the anime first (which is why I bought the manga) but I’m still impressed with it. I loved the plot and characters anyway but it’s just so satisfying seeing the art and turning the pages yourself. I loved it, and I’m glad I still have Volume 2 and 3 bought to read!

I think I prefer anime to manga. Reading top to bottom, right to left is hard. Still I like the story. There is hopefully an arc for each main character. When they graduate high school if they are pretty much the same that's bad writing. In the anime their was growth of characters but books don't always have to be better than T.V.

Big on fanservice, light on story, but as it's only volume one, I could be wrong.
...
Seriously, somebody let the pitiful manga artists go home to their wives and girlfriends; the h0rn1 is leaking into their art!

I've decided to try and see how risque a few "usually in sealed bags at Barnes and Noble" manga are, but under the stipulation I can get them through the public library. Being a male manga and anime fan, I have certainly heard of Rias Gremory before, and after watching a few clips of the anime, I decided to try this one for my fourth and final "risque manga".
High School DxD is a good hybrid of action and fan service. Issei gets killed on a date and ends up reborn and indebted to Rias, a devil of the House of Gremory. Running a club at Issei's high school, Rias and the other devils fight back against fallen angels and other creatures as they seek out devil contracts and more power. Of course Rias is the hottest girl in school, has giant breasts, and prefers to sleep naked with her minions. This first Volume sets the story and even leaves a nice cliffhanger to entice for Volume 2.
Given the amount of materials I read, I'm probably going to skip this manga and possibly watch the anime instead. I may come back for it if I have time. But probably not for a while.
Check out the content and decide for yourself.

Vastly popular, this manga is about Issei Hyoudou, his dream in high school to eventually form his own harem. When he finds out he was killed by a demon, he is claimed by another and made a demon himself. Learning about the demon hierarchy, Issei wants to climb the ladder and become a great demon who is able to take on his own slaves, but first he must do a bunch of menial tasks or he will never be able to make his dream come true. When he meets a priest that aims to kill demons, things escalate quickly, and he is surprised to find that a girl he previously met is a holy woman, their friendship an impossibility!

This was okay, and that's it. This anime/manga is very hyped up, and I am going to assume it is from all the boobs and fan service for the male audience. I did not find the story very riveting or drawing, but the art is done very well and is aesthetically pleasing. The one hitch that might keep me going at a reader is a potential romance between the Bishop girl and Issei, a demon, for angelic and demonic are mortal enemies. Other than that, there is no draw in this series and it seems like it is trying to hard in a negative way compared to other manga that contain explicit content geared toward older readers.

I read it as it was in my library. Worse than I remember it being. Rais takes care of her property. Issie, the main character, is part of her property after he died. As a servant he has to do anything she says how she says when she says it. It is much like they got servant and slave mixed up. She owns him but she also loves him. Akeno is also introduced as a super sadist. Really for a book in the "ecchi" genre it did not have that many ecchi parts compared to the romance manga I have been reading to which I do not think any of them have been in the "ecchi" genre. It is not good enough in my mind to buy volume 2 though it did leave off on a cliff hanger so if I didn't already read the entire story arc and the next couple too i would want the next volume. As I already know what is going to happen it is not worth it to buy then read the source material in manga form.

This would have gotten 3 stars from me- an ‘alright’ start to a series I’ve heard gets pretty funny- but I took points off for the try-hard ‘evil’ priest at the end. It wasn’t the character traits I hated, as much as they way the story tried to fit it into a scene after a revealed happened.

I just feel like they tried to put too many “bad guy” traits into one spot, and ended up shoehorning in some stuff in a kind of ‘ick’ way. C’mon guy, we don’t need a dude verbally announcing his intent to sexually assault a character as punishment to get that he sucks.

That bit wasn’t so off putting that I’d vow to never pickup another volume, but I’ll hope the villain characters don’t get such a clunky “this is not a good guy” introductions in the future.

After Issei is murdered by his first ever girlfriend, he's reborn as a devil and now has to work for the gorgeous devil, Rias.

This manga was so cute, the art is fantastic, and the characters are all pretty funny & likable. I definitely think I'd prefer this in anime form simply so I can visualize the fight scenes better, but I really enjoyed this!

this was awful and it's humiliating to admit that a man convinced me to read this
givin it two stars because of the fallen angels and demon's lore, I knew this was ecchi but they could've made it at least a little bit less misogynistic

-----------

esto fue horrible y me es humillante admitir q un varón me convenció de leer esto
le doy dos estrellas por el lore de los ángeles caídos y los demonios, ya sabía q esto era ecchi pero al menos lo podrían haber hecho un poco menos misógino

Surprisingly fresh reading

I ~enjoyed reading High School DxD so much I decided to buy the rest. Just the right amount of sexiness combined with what to me is a fairly good plot, so hopefully the other 11 volumes will be just as good as the first.
