Princess Kitty is in for a royal treat! Her palace attendants are throwing a surprise party in her honor. At least, that’s what she thinks! There will be games, presents, cake, and more. But when the guests start arriving, no one is paying attention to the kitty of honor! What’s a princess to do?
From award-winning children’s book author Steve Metzger, and accompanied by colorful, vibrant illustrations by Ella Okstad, comes Princess Kitty, a sweet and silly story about a kitty who learns to share the spotlight. Perfect for fans of They All Saw a Cat and Bad Kitty!
I grew up in Queens, NY in the 1950s with my “baby” sister, Lois. She is now a wonderful writer of young adult novels and nonfiction. My mother was born in Vienna, Austria, and my father came from Brooklyn – an interesting match! My best friends were Neil, Robbie, Krebs, and Paul. I’m still good friends with most of these guys. It was less hectic in those days – no computers, no emails, fewer TV channels (MANY fewer!) We had lots of fun playing ball and listening to records. I’ll never forget when the Beatles came to America – Beatlemania! After graduating from Baruch College in NYC, I didn’t know what to do with my life. I bounced around doing odd jobs, including taxi driver, dishwasher, and hotel desk clerk. One day, while relaxing in Central Park (OK, I was unemployed), I saw a group of children from a local daycare center. It struck me that I always liked children -- perhaps I could make a career out of something I liked. Eureka! Ever since then, I’ve been involved, in one way or another, with the lives of young children.
I received my Masters in Education from Bank Street College and taught preschool kids for a bunch of years. I loved the childrens' innocence and vivid imaginations. After moving into school administration for a few years, I began working at Scholastic, where I have been ever since.
At Scholastic, I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to write children’s books. The first book that I wrote was "The Dinofours: I’m Super Dino!" Twenty-seven other Dinofours’ books followed. I hope my respect and appreciation for young children shines through in my stories.
Nowadays, I’m lucky to be married to my beautiful and talented wife, Nancy (she’s also a writer). In 1998, we were blessed with a terrific daughter, Julia, who helps criticize my story ideas and lets me play with her once in a while.
And furthermore…any recollections of my life would not be complete without mentioning my grandmother, Mutti. She was an ever present source of love, appreciation, and wisdom.
An adorable book about how silly cats are. It is from the point of view of the cat, who thinks the world revolves around her. There is such a sweetness in this book and it captures the ego of cats spot on. The illustrations are bright, beautiful and full of heart. Any cat lover is going to think this is the purr-fect book! Such a delight!
Princess Kitty lives a good life with her “attendants” who care for her. This hysterical look at a family through the eyes of their cat will make young listeners and readers giggle, especially when Princess Kitty mistakes a 6th birthday party as her own. The only downfall of this title is the extremely small font. Young readers may have difficulty with this element. Otherwise, I recommend this title for both school and public libraries.
I liked this book. It's a cute take on how cats are treated like princesses and how this cat actually thinks she's a princess and everything the humans do she thinks it's for her. It's a humorous book. I enjoyed it. The illustrations are cute and colorful. Lovely color palette. Great for all cat fans and preschoolers.
My cat-loving preschooler was immediately drawn to this book, though it did not maintain her interest and she had a difficult time following the storyline of a cat who thinks that her owners (or "loyal subjects") are throwing her a surprise party (when they are actually throwing a party for 6-year-old Anna).
Princess Kitty rules the house and is so excited about the party her humans are about to give her. (AKA the child's birthday party). Any cat owner will enjoy this book and the way Princess Kitty thinks.
I love the illustrations and recognizable kitty antics. The story has a simple message of celebrating with family and friends, but stays surface level.
Princess Kitty thinks the birthday party is for her. It's cute and sweet (a little too cute and sweet for my taste, actually). Still, it's a cat getting into everything . . . so there is realism.
I have my very own princess kitty, who in her old age will only eat if the food is delivered to her or she to the food. It’s a good book for cat owners, especially princess cat owners.
