The Dead Saga #4

Odium IV: A Post-apocalyptic romance: The Dead Saga

Rate this book
The Dead Aren’t the only thing to fear…

A kid, an old lady, and a heartbroken man…what could possibly go wrong?
Mikey is holding true to his promise to Nina, and is doing everything he can to keep the group alive. But when something attacks the threesome in the middle of the night, things begin to take a turn for the worst.
Luckily a new group—the N.E.O.s are on hand to ease Mikey’s burden and help fight alongside him. But first he must prove his worth to the leader Aiken and the people that follow him. Within this new group, Mikey begins to find a form of peace that he didn’t think was possible after losing Nina, and he discovers his place within this new world. A place where killing isn’t for fun, and is only ever committed as a last resort.
His heart is still aching, but at the end of the world there’s no time to stop and mourn, and as he searches out a Circus Freak Show and the horrors begin to stack up around him, Nina slips far from his mind.
It’s probably best, because there are many more terrors in store for him. Because within the folds of a small town, inside an old candy store, he meets a woman named Clare, her two dogs and something that he never saw coming.

"You can't be alone forever."
description

The Dead Saga is back with a bang and Odium IV certainly delivers a powerful punch! The fourth book in the saga brings us back to Mikey and his quest to survive sans Nina. The anticipation is so intense that I could barely contain my excitement with each turn of the page.

description
"In a world like this, you get attached to people quickly. It can't be helped; it's just nature because you never know when people will be snatched away from you."
Nina has run back into the blazing inferno in order to get revenge. Mikey is left with a little boy and the hilarious, crazy pants. Although his heart is breaking, he wastes no time taking off into the big bad zombie world to find safety for himself and his motley crew. It doesn't take long for Mikey to find himself surrounded by an unknown people and more known zombies.

description
"A little sin of the flesh isn't hurtful if you intent to follow it through."
Mikey finds a new community to make his home. Desperate for Nina, he struggles with thoughts of moving on. Mistakes are made, and some blunders cannot be undone. With Nina gone, what motivation does Mikey have to stay alive?

description
"It's not enough, it's too long, it's all of the above."
Told in mostly Mikey's POV, Odium IV is another home run for Claire C. Riley. With the threat of Nina being gone, the threat is real for Mikey to find comfort in another's arms. Wouldn't you like for me to tell you if he does? Too bad! You are going to have to discover the truth for yourself. In addition to the main conflict, the action in this installment is off the chart. The undead continues to overtake the earth, and with death on the line, there is no one you can trust.

description

Overall, I highly recommend Odium IV to any reader who likes horror, grit, and non-stop action. The complex plot in this series just continues to develop and sweep me in. The love I have for Mikey and Nina only continues to grow and has infected my heart and soul. I am truly captivated by this world, and the questions just continue to grow. How did this happen? Will Mikey survive? Will I survive when this is over? My only hope is that I can manage to hang on until the next book is released!!!!! To Ms. Riley I say, BRING IT!!!! I am beyond ready for more!

Genre: Dystopia/Horror/Zombie Apocalyptic
Type: Book 4 of The Dead Saga Series
POV: First Person - Multiple

“Hope: it clings on long after you want it to let go, daring you to wish for more.”

description

This books continues the journey of survival. Mikey is devastated, he has a boy and a crazy lady to care for. They almost get killed trying to find a safe place. He is going out of his mind trying his hardest to stay strong and keep them all alive.

description

He not only had to protect them from the dead but also from humans. No one can be trusted.

“We aren't safe. And if these last few years have been anything to go by, we will never be safe again. Not just from the monsters but from the people that remain.”

Finally they get a break when they find a group who was able to take them in and keep them safe at least for a bit. Lots of things happened though. One moment they are safe the next is just unknown. All they know is that they will do anything to stay alive and avenge the evil man who truly are wicked and nuts in the head.

“To live. To survive. Those are our most basic instincts, and everything else is just irrelevant bullshit.”

This book was full of twists once you get closer to the end and it will have you on the edge of your seat until the end. I honesty couldn't get enough and I felt like holy hell I need more. I cannot believe is over and I have to wait till next year for the next book.

“We’re all made from the same skin and bone, and we all want to survive.”

Readers who love the Walking Dead and are not afraid of blood, death, suspense, and a fast pace adventure should definitely read this series. Claire writes a unique story where you never know what to except. So get a hold of your wine, stay still and enjoy the ride because this series will have you screaming one minute, laughing the next and shocked as hell when you least expect it. And I love it obviously.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Hope: it clings on long after you want it to let go, daring you to wish for more.”

We follow Mikey, crazy pants (Joan) , and Adam- who are now running for their life. They run into a lot of trouble on their way to safety. They also find a good place to lay their head for a while. Mikey is still devastated since Nina is presumed dead, and sacrificed herself to let the others get away.. He is trying to hold it all together in front of everyone but going crazy in his head.

This book includes new characters that we meet at a NEO ..

No ... Not that Neo silly ...(I had the same thought)

NEO stands for New Earth Order. The leader of this group is Aiken and seems to be a pretty good chap. There is also O'Donnell - a woman who just cant keep her eyes off Mikey (INSERT EYEROLL HERE).

And a hippie named Phil, who is obsessed with odd animals- among other interesting characters.

There is multiple first person POVs in this installment. Most of it being told from Mikeys POV- which is different because we are used to Ninas POV. We get a lot of crazy going on in here. There is a shootout, and a creepy dead carnival with all shapes and sizes of CRAZY... and CLOWNS.

Suspense and terror abound yet again in this fourth book. Claire takes us on the ride that never stops! Full of emotional obstacles, as well as life or death. Horror rains - and doesn't let up. With fantastic writing and so character driven you cant help but pick up the next book to see whats going to happen next!

This wasn't my favorite of the series... but it was still so much fun!! It was a little depressing and all the unknown hanging in the balance had me on the edge of my seat. I just missed Nina for a long time in this book!! But the new characters were so good that .. ok sooo maybe I didn't miss her THAT MUCH. :P So many twists and turns with an ending that leaves you wanting more.. I can not recommend this series enough!

I will NEVER get tired of Claire's writing. Her characters are some of my favorites. Well the ones that are still living anyway ;) That's one of the main things I love about Claire. She's never afraid to kill someone off. Just when you start falling for them and grasping at straws for more, they're gone.

This whole series is one emotional roller coaster. Nina and Mikey have been on a long tiring adventure bouncing from place to place together. They're tired and have been down a very long road with so much more to go.

At the end of Odium III I was crying. Dang you, Claire! She always does it to me! I couldn't wait to dive right back in when this book hit my kindle. It picks up right where we left off with Mikey, Adam, and Joan.. and man, is Mikey pissed. Pissed at Nina, pissed at life, pissed at the world. I liked being in Mikey's head majority of this book. His thoughts were dark at times but his humor is still there. I was even mad at him for a little while, I just wanted him to GO and DO! Do SOMETHING! (Staying as spoiler free as possible here, no worries.)

The Circus Freak Show is definitely that - FREAKY! The barn, the woods, the Circus. Set the perfect ominous setting. Then the candy store happens and it changes the entire story! Things take a wild turn and everything gets ten times darker.

Death, fear, gore, survival. The feelings are pretty heavy in this book. I felt like it was the perfect bridge, the perfect story to set up the next book. Which I CANNOT WAIT FOR! It's what I've been waiting for all along! Or at least what I HOPE will happen!

My rating: 4/5 stars

Hold onto your socks, this is going to be a wild ride.
Nina is presumed dead, she sacrificed herself to let the others get away. This book starts with us tagging along with Mikey, Joan and Adam.During a struggle with Z dogs Adam ran off.Enter the NEO's (New Earth Order)This group is ran by a man named Aiken,he is not what he appears to be. He seems to be laid back and genuine. He and his people agree to bring Mickey back to look for Adam.I can see a lot of people squirming in their seats while they read this book. Mickey, Rickie, O'Donnell and Dale stumbled upon a "Dead Circus" while looking for Adam. This small unsuspecting group has a run in with the most unlikely cables, will they find Adam ? Will they get back to the NEO's camp? I am not telling.
Mrs.Riley is an affluent writer, spinning golden thread in the worlds she creates. Her characters are complex and beautifully flawed. The situations they find themselves in are at times funny and heartbreaking.

When you think that things could not get more crazy or intense, Mrs. Riley always proves you wrong. Mikey has many doubts about what Nina has made him choose to do. He goes through some mind altering arguments with himself as well as trying to keep safe the only two people that are left in his care. What could go wrong does and more. Nina............. This is another adventure you do not want to miss. A definite 5 star. Thank you Claire.

Claire keeps on packing the punches when it comes to the Odium series, I swear it just never lets up. So book 4 is told mainly through Mikey's POV throughout the novel after Nina is presumed dead at the end of the last book. Mikey takes off with Adam and crazy pants Joan, heading for the cabin that was his and Nina's planned refuge. When their truck dies and they find themselves surrounded by wild dogs, a group called NEO come to their rescue and they find themselves taken in by good people and a safe place to rest their head, however Adam is missing and with no clue how to find him Mikey promised Nina he would keep him safe and he sets off on a search and rescue mission with a couple of new characters Phil, Ricky and O'Donnell (who has taken a liking to Mikey and reminds him of Nina).

Things don't go to plan, of course because this is the Odium series and what plays out is a horror of the undead, wild dogs, strange hooded shooters, humans that have well and truly lost the plot and some sexual tension that I am not sure I am all too happy about *gives Claire side eye*

Pacing as always is non stop, I am always impressed with how Claire keeps bringing new ideas and encounters into the mix. The circus was a new one that's for sure, a true circus of horrors! There is no way while reading this book you can guess what's coming. There are twists and turns a plenty and where Mikey ends up at the end of the book leaves me needing book 5 asap!

Highly Anticipated

I've been waiting for this book for awhile..and it did not disappoint! There are some truly eerie scenes in there with some awesome new characters (I'm probably biased). It was interesting to delve in to Mikey's mind after losing Nina. ..Can't wait for the next one!

Claire and Odium IV have delivered yet again. This instalment of the saga introduced new characters while we see Mikey adapting to a world in which he has lost Nina.

The introduction of these new characters has developed and expanded this universe to a point of change and direction, whilst still holding on to the core of what has made these books amazing. I won't say too much, but there are certain point in this book that are truly shocking (one more so than any other) and one speech, towards the very end. This speech is one of the most powerful and poignant I've read within this saga. That speech encapsulated power, strength, hope and courage. I'm looking forward to Odium V as I have many questions and predicaments that need answering. Another fantastic addition to the saga.

I really enjoyed being in Mikey's head for a while. He's more succinct with his thoughts than Nina and not nearly as annoying. These books keep getting more twisted. Excited to see where 5 brings us.

I thought I was waiting all this time for Nina's POV takeover. What happened to her???? But when it didn't come until the end of the book, I realized how much I did not miss her. She's the most self important, spoiled brat that never shuts the fuck up... But fuck if that doesn't make her more real. She's utterly human and completely flawed. She's unlikeable. Point blank. And yet I want to read more.

Oh my word!!

This series just keeps on getting better and better! Odium is utterly addictive and mind blowing!!

Claire C. Riley is a creative literary genius. I started this book with a heavy heart and it ended with a different kind of heaviness that comes with secrets.

Mikey, Adam and Joan set off leaving Nina who has effectively signed her death warrant... and they encounter a different kind of blood thirsty savage beasts and a new colony the NEOs. WWND (What Would Nina Do) is a huge motivator for Mikey and naturally he makes some choices that a grieving man is bound to make- or maybe it’s just a Mikey thing **cue a full set of eye roll and cringey faces**

There was a different kind of humour in this book— darker and more cynical and the kind you just have to laugh out loud otherwise you’d end up crying or bawling in corner... or getting twitchy fingers wanting to inbox the person who got you addicted to this series and possibly the author herself.

Holy bejesus- plot twists and shockers galore! I’m slightly terrified that anyone can even think up all these scenes and execute them with such vivid imagery but I revel in it all the same.

It’s the characters that bring this story to life, their vibrant personalities, the drama and conflict, being lulled into a false security all the while knowing that never ending danger will strike at anytime.

Odium book 4 is a whole new level of guts and gory rawness— every man for himself—what’s shocking is that I’m not shocked at the depravity that people will go to secure their own survival or get retribution or even revenge.

There’s a lesson in here for all of humankind.

“𝗜 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝗲. 𝗜 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀. 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱, 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿-𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨.“

1- 8 book series so far review
Waiting on book 9

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
❤️❤️❤️/5
🌶🌶.5/5

This series is one I walked into not know much about. Sure I read the description and some of the reviews but that didn't even describe what I was about to read. This series is all about details and I love every mind of it! The author did a wonderful job putting thought into every character, chapter, romance and chemistry there is. This series will keep you on your toes and will stop at nothing to keep the romance, adventure, sadness, and overall plot together.

What I love the most:
- characters: all of them even the evils ones are so thought our and do their jobs to the fullest.
- Though sometimes the two main characters don't get a break the end of the world never stops giving people hardship and that's just reality.

What is wish was different:
- I wanted more of MMC and FMC to have a little bit more togetherness and romance in book 1. This series focus on them and their story I wish we had more of them time before everything went to shit..
- Sex I need more detailed sex.. for a author to have so much detail ok the plot she puts a tad bit into the sex part and I need moreeeeeee
- ok and I have so many flipping questions... like...where is little Adam, will Nina and Mike see high way Crew again, I know it's the end of the world but will we get to slow down and have Nina and Mike a home?, I need to know more...
- I love love love shooter and will we get to see his happy ever after!?

Believing his Nina has sacrificed herself and her life so he, Joan and young Adam can get away all Mikey wants is to honour her memory and do as she asked. However with Zombies nothing quite goes to plan and more horror meets them on the road. Suspense and terror abound yet again in this fourth book, the reading keeps you on the edge of your seat with all the twists and turns. More characters added into the mix in this book as well and not all are nice, as well as some animals, reptiles and insects. The not knowing Nina's outcome or the others from the base had me even more on edge. Terror and excitement filled read and again straight into the next book but I'm starting to hate these cliff hanger endings because I know as things stand I only have 1 book left to read at this time.

Before I say any more this isn't a bad book the writhing is great the two stars more of because my personal preferences. I loved the first 3 books I was hooked, but after waiting for so long for this one I was disappointed, to see it was from the POV of Mikey, so I stopped reading after the first chapter and didn't pick it back up until I saw there was a fifth book. So I gave it another go but it didn't get any better for me, I couldn't connect with Mikey like I did with Nina, I hated the decisions he made, and there were the two things I loath the most, the circus and cannibals and I just couldn't make myself like this one.

Not what I expected! Surprised and wowed that it was written in Mikey's perspective for most of the book.

Running from the dead and the living, Mikey, Joan and Adam are on the road headed anywhere. Saddened and a little pissed by having to leave Nina behind, It doesn't take long for the drama and non stop action to begin when trimming into a new group! Yet again Claire has given us new characters to love. ( but will they all stay alive) The action, adventure, love and chaos of this book will keep you turning pages until you are finished!

Survivors, not always friendly

Another great instalment s series, The Dead Saga. Nina, Mikey and their fellow survivors are still alive, well some are. Slowly being picked off by either Deaders or other not so nice groups. The group is getting smaller by the day, but they occasionally come across other survivors who tag along. Unfortunately not all “friendly” survivors are what they seem.

Awesome... like usual!!

Great read!! I did miss Nina and was worried we would not hear from her in this book!! I’m still wondering if Max and her girlfriend died.. I loved this book but I can’t believe that Mikey would just drive away and let Nina run back into the mall!! I just can’t see him doing that!! I love the way these books make you laugh out loud at some parts, cry, feel the love... just so many emotions!!!

Horrifically good.
I love a good zompoc book - and this series does not disappoint. I have to say that Claire is one of the best writers to properly describe, down to the most horrifying detail, how disgusting, gut wrenching and frightening zombies would be. This book again brought some very vivid images to mind that followed into my dreams. The end of the world is not pretty - and even if you don't like the gore, you won't be able to 'look away'.

Truly Horrific

This was a roller coaster of a ride! Truly horrific. The outcomes were not as I expected and the ‘what the heck’ moment was truly horrifying and traumatic. I knew ‘she’ made it as well. I appreciate the different styles of narrative with the different POVs as this gives us the emotional perspectives of the different characters.
