Of all the books I have reviewed in the last year. This one is my favorite. We all have doubt about God’s existence or we know some people who have. This book with it’s 31 intellectual essays on every manner of everyday life, be it superheroes, science, Environmentalism or art among the touch points. Each chapter is unique and fresh in its approach. Rick Stedman confuses in the final chapter that his essays began with the facts of this world and hopes to prove God exists. Since atheists and agnostics are not welling to begin with the premise that “therefore God exists”. He uses the materials available to start where people are rather than where we wish they were. His correct order is “God is, therefore… It’s all about God. Every single essay is appealing to all ages and professions.
Each chapter began with an excellent quote on the subject that would be covered. Each chapter had a darkened box with other surprising quotes and occasional jokes. The endnotes were excellent and complete in case you wanted to argue any point. This is no apologetics book with nothing but Biblical quotes. He does quote the Bible but not often. He proves his point with facts and true confessions of agnostics and atheists that have seen the light and answer in a belief in God.
This is good devotion material for the individual or for group study. It could be lead by anyone because the essays are so versatile and thought provoking that you will find people trying there hardest to unprove Stedman’s essays whether it is on sports heroes, sex, human trafficking, violence, everything in our everyday life or the news. I intend to buy some copies just for gifts. The price is excellent and the four pages of people who believe this a great book are not wrong

A Well-written Resource for Sharing and Encouraging Your Faith

I have been greatly encouraged by Dr. Rick Stedman's book, 31 Surprising Reasons to Believe in God. The chapters are not lengthy, easy to read in 15 minutes or so. Each chapter explores various reasons to believe in God, with evidence that is all around us, every day.
Dr. Stedman has written a resource that encourages dialogue when sharing one's faith with others. Even for those who are extremely skeptical, Dr. Stedman shares valid, yet often overlooked reasons to believe that God exists. Clear evidence is presented, but in a concise, conversational manner.
I also like that this book is written in 31 chapters. To include one chapter per day with daily devotional time will build the reader's faith, and strengthen the reader's ability to share their faith with unbelievers.
I highly recommend 31 Surprising Reasons to Believe in God. It is a book readers will enjoy reading, but will want extra copies on hand to share.

I thought this was a fascinating book in the style of a modern Chesterton.
Stedman starts with almost light hearted topics such as horror movies, music and art and gradually draws closer to end with topics such as pain and suffering, lasting love and commitment each time showing us - believer and non-believer - alike how God can be seen in each topic.
I really enjoyed the book. There are a few pieces of light hearted banter and jokes but much of the book is serious and I found my philosophy training very useful as the book drew nearer to its conclusion. That is God can be found in everything.
I was given this book by NetGalley and the publisher. This is my voluntary review.

Author Rick Stedman comes at this subject with a different approach and encourages us to see God all around us. Using pop culture, this is a great way to show the unbeliever that God is real. This is not just an emotional book trying to convince people of God’s existence, but uses facts, events, stories, and even art to present truth to the skeptic.

I would have preferred some scripture to be used, but remember that the believer is not the objective of this book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a positive review.

This book is an absolute treat. Stedman examines 31 sign-posts that point to the existence of God - including everything from sports to environmental issues, mathematics, science, reason, doubt, and death. His short chapters contain a wealth of intelligent and cogent arguments. This would certainly be a great book for those without faith, but it is also is a great book to build up faith for believers. If you like thinking, get this - you won't be disappointed!

Excellent book, it will get you thinking... Powerful reasons with real life examples of the reasons why famous atheists have changed their minds and believe in God. Highly recommend. Love that C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien were included in the book. Won book from Goodreads and the Author Rick Stedman. Thank you!

Very solid work on Christian apologetics. Practical more than philosophical.
