Love struck me at the early age of five. The boy turned into a man, and I fell even deeper. Guy Webb had no idea my fragile heart belonged to him for so many years. He was too busy being my brother’s best friend and a star on the football field. He was my daydream, and consumed every single thought, but he was always one step from my reach.
Beartooth Ranch was our home. The rich ranch land raised us, fostered our laughs, losses, and even gained a new family member when Guy moved in for his sophomore year of high school.
I hid my love for years. But now he’s back. Guy Webb returned a broken soldier after serving his country all over the atlas. And now it’s my job to help him heal.
My family lost everything with his return and I can only hope I survive it.
USA Today Best Selling Author, HJ Bellus is a small town girl who loves the art of storytelling. When not making readers laugh or cry, she's a part-time livestock wrangler that can be found in the middle of Idaho, shot gunning a beer while listening to some Miranda Lambert on her Beats and rocking out in her boots.
First of all I just want to say that the cover fits this story to a T and it's totally drool worthy. I absolutely loved this story from beginning to end. Guy and Molly have an epic love that starts when they're young and lasts a lifetime. They always fought so hard for each other. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants a true romance. The angst in this story comes from real life issues that only strengthen the couples relationship instead of causing unnecessary drama. I literally cried during parts of this book and that's saying a lot. I can probably count on one hand the number of times a book has brought me to tears but this one did. It has everything. Funny moments that had me lol'ing. Sad moments where I cried and an amazing love story and H that had me swooning all over the place.
Audiobook review. LOVED this story. Couldn’t have had a better introduction to a ‘new to me’ author. The tale was beautifully crafted with a plot that really held my attention consistently. At 5 hr 50 min it’s on the shorter side yet it manages to use the page/air space extremely well.
The main characters, Guy and Molly, were complex and flawed. They had huge hearts that were made for one another. I loved how they developed their feelings and that Guy especially didn’t play any emotional games. They had quite a few challenges to overcome and the journey was more than worth it.
I cried. I laughed. My heart was full. I cried again. I am looking forward to the next story even though I fully expect to bawl my eyes out. 😭
The narrators, Lacy Laurel and Jeremy York, did a wonderful job. The pace, tone, and pitch were on point. The voices matches and transitioned between genders well.

Another great story from HJ Bellus. She is quickly becoming one of my must read authors. Royal Atlas was a lot more emotional than I expected. It definitely had some heartbreaking moments. Guy the hero was fantastic. HJ Bellus always writes possessive, sexy yet sweet heroes that are crazy about the heroine and Guy was definitely that. . Molly the heroine was just okay to me. I liked her but didn't love her. Recommend if you are looking for a new adult romance read.

Molly aka Hop and Guy, the love of her life. I confess I did consider DNFing this one when it got super sad. I don't usually like tear jerkers, but the writing was good and believable.... hence the tears. Molly grows up following her older brother Amos and his friend Guy around. They are thick as thieves even though Amos and Molly fight like cats and dogs. But despite all the taunting, teasing and rough housing, there's a bond there between the three of them that keeps them close. Guy is Hop's protector and the cowboy in Molly/Hop's daydreams about cowboys and princesses. Then one day Amos and Guy go to war and everything changes. The title is the name of a wild horse that helps them heal and come together again.
Sounds cryptic, but I don't want to give anything away. But if you insist, and like me, need to know more what you are getting into, here ya go ;
The story moves at a good pace, so I never got bored. Each chapter is prefaced with an irreverent and often rude quote from Amos. I usually skip reading quotes before chapters. But these were so funny, I could see them being on a t-shirt. The epilogue was OTT but sweet (almost too much so) and satisfying. Even though I really enjoyed it, I couldn't give it 5 stars as it was a wee bit too schmaltzy and could have used less 'telling' and more 'showing'. More dialogue... I felt like I was separated from the characters and watching a movie on fast forward. But it was tight and enjoyable and moving, in an 'epic love' kind of way.
Well, if you know me, you know I love the broken hero, and Guy was the ultimate in broken heroes. I just wanted to hug him, soothe him, touch him, stroke him......ummm....yeah I'm getting a little out of control there! But, you get my meaning!
Guy is the best friend of Molly's brother, Amos. Growing up together since they were kids, Amos and Molly had the typical brother/sister relationship......spatting and teasing, but bottom line was they would also have each other's back. And then there was Guy, he was always the "protector" of Molly. Molly developed an early crush on Guy which turns into something more, but of course he would never act on it.
And then things changed drastically when Amos and Guy go off into the service. Ugh, my heart!
Molly is a horse trainer, and also involved in the therapeutic aspect of it. I love this! It is amazing to me what an animal is able to sense in a person and how they connect and become part of the healing process.
This was a great story of love, hope, healing, and family. I felt the story came full circle by the end.
*Warning: You will need tissues while reading this book*
I don't even know where to start with this emotional soul touching book. Seriously. I laughed and I cried. I fully experienced every single moment of Molly and Guy's life-changing utterly epic romance. I stayed up all night to finish this book because I just couldn't put it down. Royal Atlas is steamy, romantic, hilarious, and heart wrenching.
I really loved the inclusion of the Amos-isms starting off each chapter. They were a great way to help my tears change from emotional tears to humorous tears. I think I highlighted everyone, because I want to remember them for later.
UGH. Obviously I'm on a DNF streak right now. Literally nothing seems to be doing it for me. I was hoping this one would at least have some emotional impact because it seemed like it would in the synopsis, but nope. Situations that could have really had an impact just fell flat. There was just too many things happening to really feel the aftermath, and the healing was just non existent. The heroine was also selfish and weak and didn't stop to think for one minute WHY the hero is different after being back from war and having to deal with his close friend's death. She all of a sudden just started hating him because he's not the same person and hasn't really talked to her. I think the author tried making her have a backbone by not being the one to cave in and help him first, but it made me dislike her more. She had literally zero common sense. No chemistry between them either. Made it to 50% before giving up.

By the end, I was in tears. The last 25% gave me what I needed. This book, however, was sorely in need of an editor and a proofreader. I would give the story itself a 3.5. It moved me. It was about beautiful love that came full circle, but the lack of editing was distracting. If that doesn't bother you, it is a good story
I am a big fan of military romances and ones with broken heroes and this book had all that and more.
This is a sweet but yet emotional story of Molly and Guy's love. Guy is the best friend of Molly's brother. We get to read about how the 2 grew up together and eventually reveal their love for each other. Molly is a cowgirl and loves living on a ranch. Guy enlists in the military, experiences heartache while serving and returns home. He comes back to Molly a broken person. Molly is also dealing with a loss and we see how the two slowly start living again and falling deeper in love.
“I’m right here. I love you and always will. I hope you find it in you to let yourself live again because I need and want you.”
I like the way the story is told. The author starts out with Molly at an old age, retelling her life experiences with her granddaughter and the book ends at the same time era as when it starts. We get to follow Molly and Guy's story from start to finish.
I don't know why I haven't read more from this author, I have a lot of her books on the TBR!!! This is the first book of a trilogy and now after finishing this one.....I am soooooo excited to dig in to the next two books because I am a little perplexed at how the stories are all going to tie into this family. This book was pretty short, I guess you could say Short and Sweet! I would have loved a longer fleshing out of their story, but it was all so nicely put together and the feels throughout the book were amazing!!
I'm pretty sure this is one of the best covers out there - it puts off the most heartwarming connection. What you see on the outside is exactly what you get on the inside. This story starts in the way future, then tells the love story of Guy and Molly. You also get all the family connections, the Grandpa, her parents, her brother in the retelling of the past and it brings you into the future with all the next generation of kids and grandkids - which I think are the next 2 stories in the series??? I am so curious to see where this all goes! 5 star love for the Family, the Ranch, the healing, and I love a good going off to war love story!!!
This book's layout, the idea behind how the story was told, was very clever. Reminded me of Nicholas Sparks and I mean that as a very high compliment.
"I'd give you the world, Molly."
I loved Guy and Molly's story. It made me cry (A LOT) laugh, and swoon. Truly a good and emotional read, one you need to check out. I'd say it's HJ Bellus' best book, although I'm sure she'll wreck us even more with her next installment!
These characters, all of them, were very relatable, down to earth, and funny. I connected with them from the very beginning which only made my emotions run on high even more while reading. And man, they sure went through a load of obstacles! Guy Webb had a long road ahead of him and Molly did too. It was incredibly sad reading how much they were hurting! Their emotions and situations were written and developed very well, painfully so. That said, seeing their relationship blossom and seeing them both heal was heartwarming and completely fulfilling.
Such a great book!!! Fair warning, though: this book will make you cry, and more than once! (Totally worth it towards the end!)
The book is quite enjoyable until halfway through (end of chapter 17 to be exact). I love that the story starts when they are both young and we can see the main characters develop feelings for each other. The book is not a fluffy read because it deals with heavy issues such as loss and healing after coming home from the war and losing a best friend.
But once the hero starts healing (not really a spoiler, is it?), all tension is gone. He turns into the Hulk when someone shows interest into the heroine. And the dialogues become incredibly cheesy.
So 4 stars for the first half and 2 or so for the second half.
Sweet story but lacked something. I don't know if it was the writing or of it simply was a bit bland but something seemed missing. Otherwise a safe sweet read.
Phenomenal! I knew going in that I would love this book. I am a huge fan of this author and have loved everything I have read of hers. However, I was not prepared for the level of emotion that she brought to the table with these characters. This storyline blew me away and left me in tears, breathless with my feelings. Every once in a while, you come across a book that will not only touch your heart, but will forever brand your soul. Royal Atlas is my soul marking book for 2016. This is not just a story, or a book. It is a journey, to be started with your heart fully open and ready to "feel" everything along the way. These characters (all of them, not just Molly and Guy) are everything. There are some LOL moments, some "aaawww" moments, and some epically tear worthy moments. If you do not read any other book this year, it MUST be this one. You will fall in love as deeply as I did.
LEEANN'S REVIEW 5 STARS
Ok so I finished this book a couple of days ago and have been sitting on the review because I honestly didn't know if I would be able to extract the words to do it justice.
Molly and Guy share such an unexplainable and unbreakable connection. Their love is timeless and lasts through the years. Within this story you are transported to another place completely. I was so swept up in what I was reading that I lost track of all time and became completely oblivious to what was going on around me. From the very beginning the love pours off the pages and not just from Molly and Guy but also from Amos and Molly's parents. Even though Amos was a bit of a bugger in the beginning he truly loved his sister and his best friend and only ever wanted happiness for them. The bond Molly and Guy share will last for eternity and shape the lives and loves of their own children just like Mollys parents shaped hers and Guys. There are traditions within this family that are passed from generation to generation and only further cement the love this whole family has for each other.
Now I did need wine and tissues for this book and I would probably highly recommend you don't read it in a public place.. I sobbed that much at times that people would have looked at me strange if I was in public. In saying that, I also laughed my butt of at times. Molly is hilarious and comes out with the most awesome stuff sometimes! At rhe end of the day, Molly is a sweetheart and Guy is an absolute gentleman until the end.
The story is told in the 1st person but is at times in the present with Tessi (Guy and Molly's daughter) and than at times by Molly herself.
This is a definite must read!
GINA'S REVIEW 5 STARS
You know you are starting a great book when you haven't even made it through the prologue and you already feel all the butterflies!
I loved how the author told the story in a flashback. It gave the book that extra push from good to AMAZING because you get all those feelings right at the beginning. I just absolutely loved it! There was the perfect balance between all those emotions, the good, the bad, the sad, the joyful. It just made for such a well-rounded book. The characters where amazing! They all had their struggles and I loved reading how they were able to over come those struggles. It just made the book feel so...real! And for the fact the author made me shed actual tears, which very rarely happens, just shows how truly emotional this book is.
There are not enough praises I can give to the author for this one! It was such a beautiful, yet tragic love story. It is one of those stories that you will never forget. The writing was fantastic, the story was phenomenal. There were a lot of little touches the author put in the book that made it even more special!. Royal Atlas being one of them and how that was incorporated into the story. I loved the Amos quotes at the beginning of the chapters, it showed how much of an impact he had in the story.
HJ Bellus did an amazing job capturing ALL the emotions in the book!!! I laughed, I cried, I swooned, I felt joy and I felt sorrow. If you need a book to make you feel, this is it! This is a must read but be sure to have a box of tissues handy!
Reread 9/23. Changed my rating to 3 stars. This was a nice little romance, but the h was too immature in some of her reactions to the H. And there was a lot of "woe is me" by the characters. Just too maudlin in parts.
Original Review: This book is almost as good as this cover. Dang, that's a good picture!
I really liked this book. The romance was sweet, sexy, funny, and sad. It's low on angst but high on drama. I liked the writing and the story moved along really well. It was a bit too sticky-sweet at times and the ending was nice but a bit too much all tied up in a sweet bow. But overall, a great book. I'll be reading more from this author.
I loved when Molly and Guy were playful, “this is kind of her circle and not my thing, but she’s hot as eff strutting around in tight *** jeans and a cowboy hat .” He grabs my hand from his chest and lowers it until I’m cupping the bulge in his jeans." A drunk Guy equals a horny Guy, “no, you’re going to ride me like I’m a God da*n champion.” He drops his hands to my *** pulling me to him." I loved this book, Guy was so sweet.
I'm probably in minority here, when I say, that this book was 'just OK'. It was just missing something, it felt very superficial and I haven't felt the depth or connection to the characters. It's not bad read by any means, it made me laugh and cry, but at the same time it's very forgettable.
For a first book by this author for me, I must say it was really good.
The storyline, characters, the romance... It was all good.
It's a really emotional story. Some moments a little too much so for me. I'm conflicted as I write this review because while I know it was well written, and I can see why people love this author's work so much, I personally was a little put off by the ending. I'll just say it was a little reminiscent of an extremely popular story that had a beginning that made me sad, a middle that was really good, but an ending that had me vowing to never watch or read it again. And I haven't. Because every time I think about the ending, it completely puts me off.
So while I feel like I loved Molly and Guy, there was just a little too much realism in the end of their story that I don't particularly enjoy in my romance.
The narrators however did a fantastic job. I don't know what it is about Lacy Laurel's voice, but I feel like she pulls off country and cowgirl so well. I'm also really impressed with her voice for the male parts. She was able to give them a good distinction. But I really liked her voice for the leading man. Jeremy York had a gentle quality to his narration on this story that I think paired well with Guy.
Overall the narration was perfection, and the story was good. It's just not one that could be a repeat for me.
This story was breathtaking. It’s very rare I am moved to actual tears reading a novel but Bellus achieved that with Royal Atlas. I’m an absolute sucker for novels where the hero is a wounded soldier with both emotional and physical scars and boy does Guy deliver that. What made this novel stand out was that Molly knew that she alone wouldn’t be able to fix the problem and together that made them such a powerful couple that I was rooting for the entire way through. It was a quick, addictive read which leaves me glad there’s another two in the series or I’d be seriously jonesing from a book hangover! My final comment is that the cover matches this novel flawlessly. I know you’re not meant to judge a book by its cover but this one is perfect.
I picked this book up when it was free. Fell in love with the cover. Got time today and opened it up. I was unable to put it down until I finished it. This book has some really great highs and really low lows. Lots of tears flowed reading this. It is a book that spans generations of a family. About finding your first and true love and the trials and tribulations that go with it. This story is about Molly and Guy and the love they shared. They met when Molly was 5 years old. Guy was the only man she ever loved. Their love was enough to fix all that was wrong in their lives. Everyone should read this book. I am glad I did.
I knew it would have sad parts, but If I would have known it would have been this sad I would have waited. I wouldn’t mind reading this series, but I am going wait til I have read a few happy books first.
