During class, Junie B. realized that her upper front tooth was loose. She was really excited and made sure the whole class knew about it. She was proud to be the first student in her class to have her top tooth about to fall out, where new big girl teeth will grow in. But when she went home to see her grandpa, she got worried that she would look weird (like her Uncle Lou, who is missing his top teeth). She decided that if she stopped wiggling it, then it will get tight again and won’t fall out. Her grandpa told her that wasn’t going to happen and asked her if he could feel it. While he moved the tooth a bit Junie B. shut her mouth hard and fast, making her tooth fall out. She was afraid that she looked weird and was also afraid of the tooth fairy (who she heard from friend that it’s a tooth witch). Junie B. was nervous when she got into class, but soon realized that they were all cheering for how cute she looked. Proud and confident, Junie B. went home to put her tooth under her pillow. The next morning she woke up to a lot of money under her pillow! She excitedly told her family, when she noticed the Ollie’s (her little brother) tooth started to grow. Junie B. then got an idea that the tooth fairy doesn’t only collect the teeth, but she saves them for when children are first growing teeth. We think that this would be a good book to read to the class during a health lesson. Students can learn about the importance of cleaning their teeth and the process of growing new teeth. This book can show them to not be nervous of the way they will look or about the tooth fairy.
