Darryl Sims, a long forgotten murderer, has been locked up in a maximum security prison for the last twenty years. Only when the family farm is repossessed for back taxes and sold to a megastore does the full extent of his heinous crimes—and the crimes of his son, Max—finally surface. When the property is excavated, skeletal remains of women that have gone missing over the years are exposed.
Max is now on the run with Jade Monroe closing in. Worthy adversary that he is, Max eludes capture and continues his killing spree.
With Darryl Sims calling the shots from behind prison walls, Max has been given his most important task to complete. This final murderous act rocks Jade to her core and makes her question the very career she loves most.
Note: All Detective Jade Monroe books are standalone stories, yet they are best read in chronological order. #1 Maniacal #2 Captive #3 Fallacy #4 Premonition #5 Exposed
C.M. Sutter was born in San Jose, California and split time between the sunny California coast and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a senior in high school, she chose Wisconsin as her permanent address. After many years in the Badger State, she decided on a warmer year-round climate to call home and moved south. Years of progression took her from working in large companies, to twelve years as a massage therapist, and finally, owning a corporation. She has been self-employed for over twenty years. Ms. Sutter has been writing and self-publishing since 2014 with eleven titles published in a different genre. Because of her deep interest in crime and thriller novels, she took up writing in the police procedural/crime thriller genre in 2016.
The end of the first “chapter” of the Jade Monroe story didn’t disappoint. Sutter is perhaps under the radar but very, very good.
A brutal, evil serial killer struck very close and changed a career trajectory. This was high speed but I could have done without the cliffhanger... It will be interesting to see how Sutter begins the next phase of Jade’s story. Looking forward to it.
A very nasty bad guy being led by the nose by his father who is incarcerated. Some twists and turns, and for me not unexpected incident, but still jarring!
Excellent conclusion/cliff hanger for this series!
I am once more impressed with the writing of CM Sutter. I am invested in Jade, her family, colleagues and her purpose. No spoiler...but I was literally sobbing at the end of this book.
This was an excellent book, and on track for my first 5 star rating of the year, but I feel that the ending let it down. Max Sims is being evicted from the family home where his father, Darryl, killed his mother and grandmother 20 years ago. But those aren't the only murders that have taken place, and there is a field of dead bodies waiting to be found when developers start working on a furniture store. Darryl is already serving life without the chance of parole, but the bodies need to be identified, and Max has been following in his father's footsteps.
Jade and her detective colleagues from the Sheriff's department are trying to track where Max is hiding out (although the prison that his father is in is not notified that he's wanted for murder, or that there is a BOLO on his truck, despite being within the same state. And he's also not named in a newspaper article about the bodies that have been found, despite the publicity on the tv stations). There are a few inconsistencies like that, but they were forgivable to keep the plot moving.
OMG! was all I could think and say at the end of this book....the story was well rounded up and I was so emotional at the end of the book. I read a spoiler of this book coz I accidentally read the 1st book of the Amber Monroe series so I had a feeling about 'that murderous act that rocked Jade to the core' that was told in the blurb but when that part came I was in shock. It didn't matter that I had read about the spoiler before but when that part came it did shock me immensely. Also I didn't have high hopes going into the book coz the last 2 books were kinda repetitive but this one made up for the whole series. It was very suspenseful and I was literally on my toes wondering what was to come next. Highly recommend it. But please don't read the Amber Monroe series before you read this one ...coz it contains major spoilers.
I would have given the book a five star rating but I am not a huge fan of Jade... Excited to see what the other series brings tho.
Wow. Just finished book five, final book in the Washington County Sheriff Detective Jade Monroe series. Chase bad people over rural Wisconsin county highways and through fields, marshes and woods! The author resides in the Midwest, although she originally is from California. Now, I will continue to follow her as Jade continues her law enforcement career with the FBI in CA -- as she hunts for one serial killer in particular. It's personal. Note: have a handkerchief handy for the ending of this book #5. And when I finish this next FBI series, there still is Jade's little sister, Amber, as she follows in her big sister's footsteps with the Washington County Sheriff's Department, herself! -- I just really like books set in rural areas by local authors. And these are good ones!
Another thriller to keep th turning the pages to see what comes next. Jade Monroe is the Sergeant of the Sheriff's department high crime unit chasing murderers and serial rapists. Kate's father was a Detective I North Bend, Wisconsin uti he got divorced and moved to California to e a Detective there. While he was in Wisconsin he put away a man who killed his wife and mother-in-law. Now that man's son is seeking revenge. A story full of murders and man's inhumanity to man that left me in tears. Not only because of what happens in the end but because this is the last Sergeant Jade Monroe stories in this series. I will miss her.
I’m honestly not sure what to write for this review I don’t know how to feel about it. The book itself was very solid, and the antagonist is very hatable while Jade is as awesome as ever. However, I’m so shocked by the ending. I was getting a bad feeling midway through this book, but I just didn’t see it ending this way. A very solid and fitting way to end Jade’s first series, but I’m ready to begin even more after the way this series ended.
After reading this, the 5th book involving Detective Jade Monroe, I now know why she left the sherrif’s Department to become an FBI Agent. It is a story of murder, merciless killings for pleasure that culminate in a horrific event that changes Jade’s life forever. I won’t give away the ending, that’s for the reader to find out. Just know it’s a goo, quick mystery!
I love how there are some twist and turns going on. While there can be too much detail and mundane information sometimes, it has proven to be useful while getting to know Jade as a character. I am kind of sad she is leaving all her friends and family, but, I'm also excited to see her adventures in her new life.
I just finished the 5th book and must say all 5 were some of the best reading I have done in years! Jade Is one tough cop with a great team of co workers and family. Terror, murder and vicious killers are what Sutter writes and very hard to put down, well worth the time reading, can't wait to start the next series she had written.
Dark and twisted! With a surprise I did not see coming! I loved this story and I hated this story. The killer’s thoughts and actions are sometimes hard to swallow. Too realistic or graphic? I love the connection that Jade has made with people/family and she grows smarter every day. Nicole Zanzarella does an amazing job portraying all these characters’.
I would have given every book in this series a 5 but I have gotten tired of the continual description of preparing and drinking coffee's and full description of every breakfast, lunch and dinner. I hope this author's other books are more of a story and less about beverages and meals.
What a book!!! The series was FANTASTIC and this final surprise ending threw me for a loop!! To say the least. I will be starting on Sergeant Monroe's next adventures in the FBI just as soon as I can download it. Thanks to C.M. Sutter. Keep up the good work!
Really enjoyed the details of this latest book. Like the characters interactions and the humor injected in times of stress. Wish the ending had been different, but it was to be expected in time.
Evil sucks the life out of everyone and everything. Law enforcement made so many mistakes in this book but understandable. Hindsight is 20/20. Great book to read!
Very active story with enjoyment of the characters. Disappointed to have the one character die in the end and the criminal still at large. Understandable that the heroine is looking to a career change that enlarges her jurisdiction
OMG! I didn't see this outcome from this series! I've been on such a rollercoaster ride I need to take a step away, for the rest of the weekend, to catch my breath before moving on to Agent Jade Monroe Series
Still enjoying the plot of the books and am excited to begin the next 5 part series. The only negative I would say about this book is that Jade is a little high and mighty as well as more naive and careless as her character makes decisions that don’t seem to fit how I initially viewed her.
Writing has improved with each book. Exciting plot, action, and moves very fast. Did not like the ending...however, increased tension and emotional impact. Characters are well developed and interesting.
This series will most definitely hold your curiosity. Great characters that are intriguing and believable. As for the bad guy? Makes you shudder at just the thought of him being real.
The author has done an outstanding job of creating characters that a reader can identify with and grow to enjoy. I'm looking forward to following more of Agent Monroe in the next 5 installments of Sutter's work.
