One of the BEST art reference books I've seen. I checked this out of my local library - now I MUST buy it!
Artist's Drawing Techniques covers all the basics first: composition, focused/gestural lines, tone, color, value, expression, perspective, etc. It also covers the pros and cons of drawing from life vs. drawing from photo references. Discusses indoor and outdoor setups.
Then it moves into different mediums and showcases art and step by step tips on each medium: pencil, charcoal, pen & ink, colored pencils and soft & oil pastels. Each section also discusses which items you will need and how to use them. Each media section has projects and examples from beginner to intermediate to advanced. The examples are good.
This 304 page book is just amazing! I MUST add it to my art reference book collection. Enjoy.
It took me quite a while to finish this book, and I am really sure I will return to it many times. It is a wealth of knowledge on different techniques for different drawing media. I really love the structure of the material and illustrations and how everything is put together so that you can easily locate particular technique and exercises for it.
Nice for a beginner who wants to be serious with art. This book listed the basic supplies you need and what its used for. You can learn many different techniques from beginner to expert level on different mediums in this book.
don't let the title fool you! this book is not just about drawing. it goes into extreme detail about drawing but also has a little bit of everything else. A very good book for the artist looking to draw different things.
It's an excellent book for beginners you can find all mediums and basics you need for drawing, Good introduction but I didn't take any extra or new knowledge from reading it also I didn't enjoy a lot, it was not for me from the beginning since I'm not a beginner at the same time I liked to have a book like that in my Library and even if you are not beginner Artist still you need to go back to the basics from time to time and make exercises.Overall I highly recommend it for beginners.well explained.
