This was a fantastic volume. After Neena attempting suicide and getting into a comma Kasane, locks her in her own home, but she keeps getting visits from Neena's parents. The mother suspects that there is something wrong with her daughter. What happens next? Read!
With Neena recovering from a recent episode of her sleeping sickness she discovers lending her face to gain fame is not all it is cracked up to be as her world seems to be passing by without her having any control of it. In the mean time Kasane is having her own crisis with identity as she not only takes on her role as Neena on the stage but in life as well after she has been taking her face through the power of her lipstick. It will take some tricks from her manger to keep their secret away from the discerning eyes of those closest to Neena.
Definitely better than the first two! A lot happens here and it’s definitely worth going forward. Still not a full 4* because I know all the potential that this story can have and it’s not yet used in fully.
It was definitely the best book from this series so far! Finally, we got to see the whole extent of how damaging the whole “identity theft” is for Nina as she tries to commit suicide out of misery and helplessness.
The only thing that took me out was how nobody paid attention to the fact that their hair colour switched so fast. I'm guessing the day before Kasane (as Nina) went to work with black hair, the next day when the real Nina ran away and got to work she was obviously blonde, and her manager's (Kasane's) hair was black. Then, after Nina's jump, the fake Nina's hair was again black, and her “manager's” were blonde... Idk it doesn't make much sense to me.
The part with Nina's mother being suspicious of Kasane was also very well written, and I enjoyed it.
And dayumm, Uno's hot asfff

My ugliness isn't skin deep... It's eaten right through the surface, and comes out even in how I act!
Kasane said this line in volume 2 and it is the perfect line to describe volume 3. We are looking at this world through the eyes of a parasite. Yes, that's what she is, from my perspective. We understand her psyche but we cannot condone it as we can clearly see what she is doing to the host Neena.
Even though volume 2 tried its best to portray Neena as just another bad person, we end up feeling sorry for her in this volume. I've to say, the writer really knows what they're doing.
The story really takes off in this volume, as we see the psychological ramifications of Kasane taking over Neena's life. The ultimate acting challenge comes when Kasane has to impersonate Neena well enough to fool her parents. Along the way, Kasane also confronts the way Habuta and the memory of her mother are pushing her into crueller actions. Really really interesting the way it weaves her story with the plays she's in. There's probably a really interesting thematic reading to get if you're familiar with all of the plays, but that ain't us.
It's getting a tiny bit predictable at points, but it's still very exciting. I would've flown through this, had I not needed some sleep as well. There's a bit of filler, but the story picks up again quite quickly.
The stakes rise at this point in the story, and everything that happened with Nina is beautifully heartbreaking. The way in which the characters experience consequences for their actions and circumstances is superb.
Volume three absolutely blows the pervious two volumes out of the water! It’s incredible! Sinister, intense, dramatic, and nail-biting! Neena is understandably becoming more and more anxious and doubtful of her decision and identity, driving herself mad overthinking and wondering if the fame was worth the price she paid. And when things looked like they couldn’t get any more complicated, Kasane has to undertake her hardest acting job yet and it’s not in a theatre. This story is so twisted! Kasane is a manga where the horror is more unnerving and unethical rather than visually shocking. In saying this, if you are triggered by topics of su*cide this is not the read for you. All characters are well fleshed out and although their actions are questionable no one is outright “good” or “evil”. They’re complex. In saying that I don’t like Habuta one bit! He’s the only prominent figure that has little to no background, yet gives off puppet master vibes. I fully invested in this manga! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
