WICKED APPRENTICE
by Madeline Iva

Wicked apprentice is the first book in the Wicked Magic series it is a well written story about the love between an apprentice Zephyr and a half elf named Theo. It is full of magical twist and turns that cause you to never quite know where the next chapter will lead. The fun and different characters and descriptions add to the experience of the world they live in. There are times when reading this book as you follow the ups and downs of the relationship between Zephyr and Theo that you really don't know where it will come out. Both have done things in their lives that affect them greatly but both have honor in their hearts. Its that honor that will either cause their love to grow and blossom or fail. Although it can be confusing at times it's a fun romantic tale to read.

I am a great fan of paranormal stories and I really enjoyed Wicked Apprentice. Once I got started, it was a hard job to put it down. It's a well written, magical storyline that incorporates a sorceress, an apprentice and an elf, well half elf anyway! There were times in the book where I got confused and had to have a quick reread, but other than that I can't think of anything else that disappointed me.

Wicked Apprentice is a story about love and how our past can have an effect on our future. Both Zephyr and Theo were characters that were instantly likeable. I knew from the point of meeting them that the apprentice and elf would be favorites of mine. Although I wasn't too keen on the sorceress throughout the story.

A very enjoyable read and I am pleased that this is book 1 of a series. I am looking forward to more from the characters and the author, Madeline Iva.

I found this to be an interesting, engaging and enjoyable story, but one I needed to pay attention to!

It's told from two points of view, that of the Apprentice and the elf Theo, whose relationship develops through a series of sometimes uncomfortable see-saws as the balance of power between them changes.

The world-building is done with some thought and a light touch. Madeline has clearly given thought to the realities of life in a world which seems to be broadly based on Tudor Europe, but with magic. And magic which has to be used with care and thought, as it can bite back and have undesirable side-effects.

There are times with the story jumped rather abruptly in time, but it was soon clear from the context what had happened and these jumps helped keep the story moving along.

Wicked Apprentice is the first book in the Wicked Magic Series.

Zephyr is an apprentice who later becomes a sorceress.

Theo is half elf and half human with both halves at battle with each other his whole life.

This book is well written. Most of the book is so descriptive of their world I kinda got bogged down a bit. Not that it made the book bad it just was very descriptive of the world they were living in. Hope this comes in to play in the rest of the series.

These two characters have a love hate relationship that you will love.

Great read just took a little longer to read than normal.

Wicked Apprentice by Madeline Iva is Book 1 of the Wicked Magic Series.

An ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review of which I am reviewing both honestly and voluntarily.

What an interesting idea for a new book and series. I absolutely loved the book description and had to read this story, what with me being such a huge fan of PNRs and all. Ms. Iva did a bang up job with her awesome characters and very detailed world development, however in the execution there were some issues that left me confused and having to keep going back to re-read sections to figure out what was going on, and this is what caused the rating to be lower than the 5* it could have earned.

I got this book for free and was asked to write an honest review on it. Honestly, I can't see anyone being able to put it down after they start reading it! It it well written, well edited, and keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end!

This was a great story to read with the current state of our country--the rich fantasy world was very diverting to sink into, and the world-building was interesting (the spells and those birds!). Also, all elves should be so smoldering. :)

I just finished reading Madeline Iva’s Wicked Apprentice and quite enjoyed the back and forth between the apprentice sorceress and half-elf wizard. What an amazing imagination. Very skillful world-building as well. Makes me want to draw maps to figure out the green door portal.

This was quite a strange read for me. It started off with a prologue that enticed. However as I continued reading the first few chapters, it became clearer as identified that Prin was that mysterious woman who'd fell through the door, and was now learning magic, but had a few restrictions placed on her by her teacher i payment..namely her real name and tears.

When she is tasked to go find something behind all her mistress's door she came back with a half elf, who quickly realised that he was trapped until he could get her to release him and a case of mistaken identity play out until the truth is told and he escapes and captures her.

It also happens that on this capture, she is released from her former mistress and remembers her name and where she is from. This turns out not to be such a good thing as Theo( half elf) tries to throw her back, until she comes up with a plan.

Then the book changes and i became so confused, because for some reason zephyr is now a sorceress and Theo can't do magic, but is her apprentice. This goes on continually through out the book. My head started to hurt and i just read/skipped to finish.

There is a lot of world building going on, a lot of things that just seem to add to the words but not the story itself hence leaving me just a bit cool towards this whole book. I may probably give the author another go, but only if it's a shorter piece of her work.

Wicked Apprentice is the first book in the (Wicked Magic Series ) by Madeline Iva ,and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed great story . Madeline Iva has given us a story of love and did you know that pasts can have effects on futures . As I started reading this story I just wouldn't put this story down until it was finish, it just grabs you and holds you until the end. it's so well written and it has a magical storyline with a sorceress ,an apprentice and an elf or half an elf .Zephyr and Theo are both characters that I instantly took a liking too ,and I must tell you that as soon as you meet them you know that the apprentice and the elf will be favorites throughout this story. The sorceress I found that I wasn't very keen on throughout this story. This story is full of magical twists and turns that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat ,well waiting to see whats going to happen .The relationship between Zephyr and Theo have ups and downs that will make you wonder where it will go or what will come out of it. These two have done things in their lives that have effect them greatly, but they have so much honor in their hearts. It's that honor that will cause the love to blossom or will it make it fail. I could tell you more about this story ,but that would spoil it for you. I highly recommend that you read this story ,you won't be disappointed.

To quote Shakin stevens(British singer in case you're not old enough Green door whats that secret you're keeping " , well Prin soon found out when she went through the mysterious door while on a dig in the Amazon , next thing she knows shes Hulgetta's apprentice Zephyr & learning about magic , forgetting her old life . Hulgetta gives her apprentice the task of kidnapping a half elf for what dubious reason Zephyr not sure but the attraction she feels for this elf keeps on growing & hes using it for all hes worth to get her to free him .I found the book is quite funny in parts & i loved "watching" Zephyr & Theo working through their romance . quite happily buy into another book of magic , elves & sorcery

This book covered every toxic abuse relationship behavior. I didn't like it when I started reading it for this reason, but kept expecting the characters to learn something and improve or grow. Instead, they got steadily worse in abusiveness to each other. It was like watching a car wreck and made me feel gross.

I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I have mixed feelings about the book. The premise sounds great. The writing is good. The author does a great job of world building. I really enjoyed parts in the middle when Theo and Zephyr are actually working together and involved as a couple. I also enjoyed a large part of the ending even though it had some confusing and unexplained happenings.

**reason for rating and small spoiler**

That being said - I struggled through the first twelve chapters due to the excellent but numerous in-depth descriptions that I felt really slowed down the storytelling. The story picked up in chapter thirteen though it still had a lot of in-depth descriptions. At chapter 36 the story went wonky for me, with a sudden, out of nowhere, 20 some odd year gap with very, very little explanation of what happened in that time (gathered from servant conversations). Also, the ending has one major unexplained incident (regarding immortality), that left me with a WTF moment (and it still bothers me). I guess I was looking for a romance but saw the book as more of a fantasy story (where the main characters continually think lustful thoughts about the other) with a very small side of sex.

This sounded like such a good premise and it started out well. Prin is an archeologist from Ohio. While on a trip she falls into another world and becomes an apprentice to a sorceress.

As I said the book starts out well and I enjoyed the beginning but about half-way in it became convoluted. I'm not sure if the author wanted this to have more erotica or more fantasy but it seemed like the story line became lost. I think it would actually benefit by a longer story to go into more detail and untangle the storyline.

This was a difficult book for me to get into. I enjoyed the magic and spells and love the genre but this book was slow paced for me and often left me confused and bored. I couldn't really connect with either of the main characters. Despite all this I pushed through the book and I did like where it eventually led but was just glad to be done with the book.
