Another heart~warming and endearing read from Ms. Johnson. The most unlikely Romance between a guilt~ridden Duke and a bookstore owner, bridging the social gap by putting love and affection first instead of rank and duty. Emma Carter owns a bookstore and has a habit of enjoying a macabre read very much akin to the Duke of Ravenswood's mother. A duke buying his mother a complete series of Sweeney Todd's exploits has endeared His Grace to Emma from their first meeting. Although the Duke can not help himself falling for the bookshop owner, his guilt over his fiancee's death prevents him from total commitment. Still, he brought his mother to Emma's and both mothers met, too. Only by letting go of his guilt and his past can he be happy with Emma as well as dispelling her doubts regarding his true and honorable intentions towards her. The Duchess only wanted her own son to be happy with whoever he chooses as his bride.
This marvelous short story is part of the bonus content, contained in " Earl ". It is a very romantic piece, and very well written. I applaud the writer's techniques for a very entertaining piece.
This is a short story about a bookshop owner and a Duke. As I've mentioned in reviews of other books by this author, I wish she will write longer stories as the characters are always interesting.
