She is a siren on a mission from the god-like creatures she works for. He is a soulless entity of dark and fearsome power and NO ONE dares confront him, until her. Lyra must convince the “Graverobber” to stand with their magical kind to defeat the vilest of evils who wants to destroy them all.

Hello to one tough Siren! Lyra is a force to be reckoned with! Tough, standoffish and not particularly likable at times, we soon discover her tough as nails exterior hides a woman who has suffered, who has felt pain and never wants to feel it again. It is Lyra’s boldness that intrigues the Graverobber and warms his cold heart.

What they will face, what they will learn and what they will feel brings Emma Hamm’s RED BLOOD to life in a fast and furious tale of looking beyond the exterior to finding the real treasure and strength of another.

Absolutely riveting, as Emma Hamm takes a sharp turn from book one and digs deep with heavy emotions, heavy action and two characters who were fabulous together. Talk about well-developed and intense, both Lyra and the Graverobber could continue to hold my attention captive for many books to come, they are that good!

Ms. Hamm displays some sharp and versatile writing talent that cannot be ignored!

I received an ARC edition from Emma Hamm in exchange for my honest review.

My review of Silver Blood (Series of Blood #1)

CHARACTERS

We met Lyra in Silver Blood where she was a secondary character. Even while reading silver blood, readers could see that Lyra was a mysterious being with dark secrets. Red Blood is where she is a main character and we are told more about her. In the beginning I found it a bit hard to connect to Lyra. I was used to the quirkiness of Wren in the first book and Lyra is so much different from her. As the story went on, I began to enjoy Lyra's narration. I enjoyed her love for materialistic things and personally thought the opening with her trying out boots at a shop was hilarious. This is not to say I enjoyed the decisions she made throughout the story. More often than not, I was shouting at her in my head!

The Graverobber is someone I can't really talk about without giving away major plot points. I'll just say he is a man of magic and quite the anti-hero we all love reading about! I absolutely enjoyed his character development throughout the book. Again it's not that I completely liked him. I didn't. I had problems with his ideas, his way of thinking at his possessiveness but considering the kind of being he is, all that while not too nice, seems only natural.

PLOT

The plot was even more complex than the plot of Silver Blood; and that's saying something considering how much I loved the first book! Red Blood deals with multiple plots that join up to give us these absolutely unexpected and amazing plot twists.

In book 1, Burke follows the clues in the prophecy to find Wren. Now Lyra follows the next segment of the prophecy and tries to find the next person. Throughout the story many things about Lyra are revealed and more questions answered.

This book leaves me waiting anxiously for book 3! The ending had me asking for more and hoping that the next book would be about Jasper.

WRITING

When creating a fantasy world which is in a lot of ways different from ours, world building has an important role. Emma Hamm totally nails it. She creates this vibrant world where magic and prophecies are real and does an amazing job explaining everything to us. I enjoyed the vivid descriptions of various places and the banter among the characters a lot.

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THE BOOK

- The characters
- The plot
- The writing
- The dialogue
- The Cover

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT THE BOOK

- Certain things about Wolfgang

CONCLUSION

Go ahead and pick up this series if you love original fantasy stories with three dimensional characters! I LOVED THE BOOK !!

Red Blood is the second book in the Series of Blood set by Emma Hamm. In this story, we meet again with Lyra, a siren that we originally met in book one. We learn more about her past, her life, and the secrets she is keeping from everyone. When she is given the mission to find The Graverobber, she accepts it with equanimity. After all, she has already met him and finds herself fascinated by him, a fascination in return that he shares. With Malachi still plotting in the background, we reunite with Pitch (love that dude!) and meet The Trinity (who I also loved!).

This book does NOT suffer from the 'second slump' that some second books do. In fact, I enjoyed this book more than the first! Perhaps it is because I am now acquainted with their world; perhaps it is because I am reunited with characters that I already know and like; who knows? All I do know is that this was exceptionally well written, with no editing or grammatical errors to disrupt the reading flow, and a whole gamut of emotions of keep me glued to every single word, scene, and page!

Red Blood is quite simply an amazing book and an excellent continuation of their world. I can absolutely recommend this book, and this series, without any hesitation.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and my comments here are my honest opinion. *

Another 3.5 star read. I liked the story and I loved the world building but I didn't like Lyra. Yes, I understood her personality was because of her siren side, but that doesn't mean I had to like her. She was quick to anger, childish, and irrational. She irritated me the heck out of me. However, there were some flashes of personality that I did like. She looked past Wolfgang's outer appearance and fell for who he was. It was odd, but fitting that she enjoyed being with him because he was ugly which, by contrast, made her more beautiful. Lyra' a vain woman, a trait she fully acknowledged.

One thing I really enjoy about these books is that the characters feel more real because they aren't perfect. They whine, cower, and aggravate each other.

I am most definitely a fan of Emma Hamm thanks to this series. I have many books waiting for me, but I can't stop this series. The characters are deeply flushed out without the stereotypical personalities and stories. That said, there is definitely a warming, comfortable creation to her lore.

I went into this book thinking

And boy was I right! Silver Blood (the first book in this series) was thoroughly enjoyable, but this book was completely different than the first. There was still the element of magic. There was still the excitement and twists and turns, but in particular this book had me wanting to go back more and more. I would read a few chapters, get up to clean or work around the house, and find myself inevitably wandering back to the book to see what was happening with the characters. I just couldn't put it down!

Now the main female character, Lyra was so very different than Wren. Where Wren in the first book was quirky and fun, Lyra is sexy, dangerous, and very much in control.

This is where you can really see the growth of Emma Hamm as a writer. In her first books, I'd frequently find that she was constantly telling us that her characters were "strong women" but never really justifying it. Lyra is on a whole different level. I'm not sure there's even a point where she says that Lyra is a strong woman, but she absolutely is. She's badass and confident in a way I really wish I could be!

The main guy? Well I can't really talk about him too much without giving away spoilers (ssh!), but let's just say that he's my favorite part of the twists and turns. I'm not even going to say his name. However, out of all of the characters in this series so far, he's likely my favorite.

Or maybe that's Jasper. Hopefully the next book is about that one, because I just can't wait to read his story! Heads up, it is a little bit more of a cliffhanger than the first book. Lyra's story is all wrapped up, and the next book will clearly be about a different couple, but I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book.

Absolutely could not put this book down! Now we just have to wait for the next one.

Firstly I would like to thank Emma for giving me her opportunity to read and review her 2nd offering from her great new series, "Series of Blood" (of course you need to have read the first book to follow the story)

I have to admit making a bit of a mistake when I started this book, something along the lines of assumptions making an ass out of us all, me in this case.
I was thrown for a bit of a loop when, I fell boots and all into the life and sighs of Lyra a kick arse Siren with a weakness for bling, whom we met with her BFF Jasper in the first book. I actually had to take a step back from the book for few days to re orientate myself about the story because I thought I would be reading more about Wren and Burke. I clearly didn't read the book blurb STUUUPID.. so you have been warned

Lyra comes across as shallow and selfish with few friends, and she hides dark secrets which are starting to eat away at her and her mission (with clothes her only real passion), to help the "Five" save "Red Bloods" and the world with her besty Jasper, who she is starting to push away.
Util she forced to find the "Graverobber"......

Yes you are allowed to rub your hands in anticipation my pretties...I don't want to give too much away except to say this was a great read, full of magic, mayhem and romance to keep hooked all the way through. I loved it all and highly recommend it especially if you loved the first book, just one word of warning is that Emma sadistically puts a teaser in at the end for the 3rd book ..... You cruel women!!!!

Emma Hamm does it again! I was on the edge of my seat during this entire novel. I simply couldn't get enough of it. Getting to dig deeper into Lyra's story seems to bring to life so much more about the world and the situation at hand. The creatures shown and the places explored are so vibrant and realistic that it really feels like falling into an incredible and diverse realm.

Lyra is a Siren who happens to be more of a ticking time bomb than the rest of her species. Her past is rickety (like a running skeleton), and her future is uncertain. She's vain and selfish, but there's clearly so much more to who she is. She's truly the life of the party with confidence to spare (despite her height)! I absolutely adored her.

The Graverobber is not a pretty man...or at least that's what some of the description leads you to believe. However, I completely fell in love with him. While Burke (Silver Blood, book one, buy it, people) might be more physically attractive, I found that Graverobber had me swooning twice as much. He was well developed and completely...magical.

This novel very strongly makes me anticipate Jasper's story. Lyra and Jasper are so close that it was impossible to avoid seeing the hints at his past and future inside the text. The epilogue only does further to make me wish Blue Blood was already available. The connection between Lyra and all her teammates is heart warming as we see that a Siren can care about more than, well, sparkles.

Every aspect was incredible. Not a single chirp was out of place. 5/5 <3

Returning characters from the previous book are Wern & Burke, also the best friend Jasper who act like an annoying big brother. The story focus now on Lyra, who’s soul has merge with a siren. She is a seductress and is used to get what she wants, especially men.

Lyra is working for the Five and still trying to prevent the end of the world. The next step in her mission is finding a person with infinite power that have been mention in a prophecy, that goes by the name Graverobber.
The siren met the handsome Wolfgang at the Black Market and is totally taken by surprise when the man doesn’t seem that much interest in her. Lucky for her, Wolfgang and the Graverobber are one and the same! The mysterious man happen to be a magician, a race that were supposed to be extinct.
Even with the warning of her friends that he is dangerous, Lyra is drawn to him and spend a month in his company, learning to him and discovering that he is not the monster everyone seems to think he is.

I didn’t like Lyra much, I know she is a Siren and it her personality to be selfish and to think she is better than every other woman, but this was getting on my nerves. Wolfgang didn’t have much character background nor personality, he was bland, so I didn’t care much about all the romance between those two.
First book was great this one so-so. Moving on to the third one, hoping Jasper P.O.V will be better.

A dark twist and an interesting storyline. I love how it picked up from Wren and Burke’s narrative and continued from another characters point of view.

This instalment in the series was much, much darker than the first book. It had a bit of a new spin on the Beauty & the Beast type theme. Unfortunately I found the main characters Lyra and Wolfgang EXTREMELY unlikeable. I understood that the characters were made this way on purpose but it tended to make it really hard for me to get through the story. I mean, who wants to keep reading when the characters are THAT self centred and annoying???

However, the plot kept me engaged enough and I had to find out what was going to happen next. (Even if I did want to bitch-slap Lyra frequently throughout the story!) The little snippets of Wren and Burke didn’t hurt either - I absolutely love them!

I did feel like the last fight scene kinda went wayyyy too quickly though. Like they ‘talk and plan and plan and talk’ about this big show-down yet then it’s over in just a few pages. Then I thought, you know what? That’s better than a long winded, blow-by-blow account so it could really be much worse!

All in all, I’m still totally invested enough to keep going with the series. I really want to see how it all ends for Wren and Burke but I couldn’t really care less about Lyra and Wolfgang 😂😂😂 Wish me luck!!!! P.S. Wren and Burke 4eva!!!!!!

I found Red Blood to be a very interesting, captivating and enjoyable novel!

Red Blood is told from Lyra perspective, instead of Wren in Silver Blood. I thought this was really unique as we will get to know more about each character! Lyra's mission is to discover the second person in their prophecy. She then meets Wolfgang, a mysterious man whom she feels drawn too.

Red Blood was again another great novel by Emma Hamm! It had a great plot that was filled with magic, romance and action.

I really liked Lyra and Wolfgang, they were great together and understood each other. Lyra was an interesting character who admits she has her flaws and is vain. And Wolfgang was an enigma that was mysterious all the way. I also liked how Wren, "E", Burke, Jasper and even Pitch were still a huge part of the story!

I'm really looking forward to seeing where the rest of the series will go! I definitely recommend fans of Silver Blood to read Red Blood as you won't be disappointed!

I loved the heroine and her unapologetic embracing of her Siren personality traits. Other major positives were:

-the start of the romantic plot with the heroine aggressively chasing after a stranger she met on the street
-how the ugly hero was in fact truly ascetically "ugly" -- none of that dude with one medium sized scar from years ago whose scar actually healed well (over the past 10 years while he melodramatically hid in the shadows and covered up all mirrors) and whose "ugliness" is all in his head or whatnot that romance novels love.

Where the book failed for me was that while the romantic aspect started off strong, it fizzled by the end.

Enjoyable Series

This is an interesting series. I started reading them on Kindle Unlimited but decided to buy them. The world and characters are unique and quirky. I like quirky. I enjoyed getting to know the Graverobber and Lyra. They grew a lot in this book. Their romance was sweet. There was no sex or "forecfull" kisses. Just a slow realization and fierce caring. Does that make sense? Well you get the idea. I'm going to start the next book right now.

Great story

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Lyra and Wolfgang's story.
I strongly suggest that the author employs a proof-reader or editor, or gets a few beta readers though, there are quite a lot of mildly irritating mistakes. Like apostrophes in plurals, and using 'a' where it should be 'an'. While these don't detract from the story, they do distract...

I really enjoyed this book! Very creative story and engaging characters were a huge part of that! The flow of the story seemed a little disjointed to me and parts that could have been expanded upon were not while other sections seem to drag a bit. Overall a good read and I'll be moving on to Blue Blood very soon!

Beautifully done! Emma always gets me with her writing. This is the second in the series of blood books and it did not disappoint. I absolutely love that the attraction between the two MCs was rooted in something more than physical appearance. I cried all the tears at the end but Emma held my hand the whole way and put me back together whole again. This book is seriously breathtaking.

I've read Silver Blood, Red Blood, and half of Blue Blood so far. Out of the three, I enjoyed this one much more. It had a bit of a Beauty and the Beast feel to it. The Graverobber is, by far, my favorite character in the series so far. I have yet to read Black Blood, but I hope to be starting on it soon. I love Pitch and can't wait to read his story

With as much as I loved Silver Blood, Hamm has done it again with Red Blood, leaving me wanting to open Blue Blood right now and see where this story will go next. Hamm hasexpanded my imagination even further in this book, learning to understand the complex, misunderstood, painful path of the dark side. Red Blood took a beautiful strange possible character love interest and tore it down to the most pitiful, ugly and dangerous dark characters. I thought that there was no way that this character will win me or Lyra over. But in the end Hamm showed us that a little hope will go a long way. Loved this book, couldn't put it down and can't wait for the next installment! :)

I'm not usually one for romance novels, but after reading and enjoying Silver Blood, I wanted to see where the rest of the series went. Needless to say, the second book certainly didn't disappoint.

While the story no longer focuses on Wren and Burke from Silver Blood, they are still contained in the overall story, so you still get to keep them around which is nice! Instead of the story being told from Wren and Burke's perspective you get to hear the story from Lyra and her counterpart for the series (I won't say more as I don't want to put any spoilers in). Lyra provides a sassy, independent, and slightly chauvinistic in a way that makes you say "Fuck yeah! Go kick some ass!" while also making you empathize with the development of her character. Balanced with the chapters from her counterpart's perspective the book flows naturally and before you know it you'll be chomping at the bit for her next novel to come out.

I'm a sucker for backstory, so slowly learning more about Lyra's past really made the book more enjoyable, and Emma does a great job of slowly revealing her past without interrupting the events of the novel. I also appreciate how the story never seems forced or contrived, and you really do feel like you're hearing it from both perspectives.

Before I ramble and end up giving away part of the story: if you like Harry Potter, The Name of the Wind, or The Hunger Games you should definitely check Red Blood out! Maybe check Silver Blood out first though!

Yeah this was really fun. I think this book stands on its own (as in, you don't have to read the first one) and this will probably be my favorite in the series. Not that I don't think the rest of the books will be enjoyable but this kind of book is my crack.

Characters -

Lyra was one bad ass woman! She was so much fun to read, and cool to be in the head of because she is that "I'm going to destroy you" personality, but also "I really enjoy shoes and sparkly things". I just love a female character who is strong, but isn't masculine. There's really no need to keep perpetuating issues like that, and having a character who isn't afraid to get dirty and kill people, but also isn't afraid to show a feminine side, was really refreshing.

She was also extremely human. There were so many issues in her life that she was dealing with, so many lies that she kept buried, and when it all bubbled to a head she made poor decisions. Like everyone else would make. I know some people don't like reading real life in books, but it made me connect to her all the more.

And then there's Wolfgang. Ohhhh this character! He was just so lovely and wonderful and dark. Holy crap was he dark!

I couldnt' find a picture that accurately represents what I think he looks like. But he's the beast 100%. the terrifying decaying corpse of a man who's so kind hearted inside but has had a really rough life of it. And he sees her, Lyra, this gorgeous woman and wants her so bad that his palms itch. And of course he can't have her because he's "ugly".

Except she doesn't care that he's ugly. Not even a little bit.

Plot -

Like the first book in this series, Red Blood had some serious world building going on. Where the first book was in the Dream World and the City, this book dived into an underground world.

Needless to say, it was pretty fun to read.

I loved the characters, I loved the world, and really above all else I loved the relationship. Where the emotion was a little bit lacking in Silver Blood, it was really there in Red Blood. I could feel their hearts breaking, and the turmoil of bad choices constantly heaping on top of these characters until they finally had to dig their way out.

Together.

In Summary -

This one was considerably better than the first, and I liked the first one! If you're a fan of darker beauty and the beast esque stories, this is definitely one for you.

On to the next!
