This is not a collection of stories and excerpts from literature, but instead it has been expressly written with the intention of helping students strengthen their understanding and use of the more challenging aspects of Spanish grammar.

The book divides its stories into manageable and coherent parts of a few pages each, followed by a short glossary and some comprehension exercises. This is more natural and smoother than the one page text one page translation format some other books use. That makes it easier to enjoy the stories while learning from them

It adds new vocabulary for the reader, with useful notes on some more unusual words and phrases, but does not allow the vocab to overwhelm the reader. I found that I could understand each story well enough on a first reading without having to be familiar with every single word.

Noteworthy areas practised in the stories:

Direct and indirect object pronouns
Reflexive verbs
Past, future and conditional tenses
Compound tenses
Imperative and subjunctive moods
All forms of the 2nd person singular and plural (the stories often use vosotros forms for the familiar 2nd person plural, which is helpful as so many available modern text books seem to focus only on Latin American Spanish)

I'm an intermediate Spanish student, and my vocabulary could use some improvement. This is a great little book; it not only defines the "hard words" at the end of each story, there's also a short comprehension quiz. The stories themselves were better than expected. The one about the female who was spying against the Nazis was quite engaging.

Short and very interesting stories to keep the reader curious. After every chapter, new vocabulary and questions regarding the story. This was the first book I read in Spanish and I loved it.

Waiting for the next book!

I loved the variety of stories! Very fun to read and I even learned a few new words along the way. I'm hoping there are more intermediate or advanced stories by Olly coming out soon!

The language was useful. The stories too simple

I did appreciate the work that went into writing these stories. I would have appreciated a bit more thought in the content of the stories.

Excellent tool.

Excellent way to improve your intermediate Spanish, especially on a tablet w a Spanish-English dictionary downloaded. I would tap on a word I wasn’t sure of and just continue reading. By the end of the book, I was needing the dictionary’s help less and less.

Interesting stories

The short stories were interesting enough to keep me reading. I forgot I was reading to learn the language and got sucked into the stories instead.

Very good to improve vocabulary but the sentences and the writing style is “very” easy.
