Join USA TODAY bestselling author Sheila Roberts this Christmas as she returns for the final installment in her treasured Icicle Falls series
When Muriel Sterling released her new book, A Guide to Happy Holidays, she felt like the queen of Christmas. She's thrilled when the new tree she ordered online arrives and is eager to show it off--until she gets it out of the box and realizes it's a mangy dud. But rather than give up on the ugly tree, Muriel decides to make a project out of it. As she pretties up her tree, she realizes there's a lesson to be learned: everything and everyone has potential. Maybe even her old friend Arnie, who's loved her for years. Except, she's not the only one seeing Arnie's potential...
Meanwhile, Muriel's ugly-tree project has also inspired her friends. Sienna Moreno is trying to bring out the best in the grouchy man next door, who hates noise, hates kids and hates his new neighbors. And while Olivia Claussen would love to send her obnoxious new daughter-in-law packing, she's adjusting her attitude and trying to discover what her son sees in the girl. If these women can learn to see the beauty in the "ugly trees" in their lives, perhaps this might turn out to be the happiest holiday yet.
With fifty books to her credit, both fiction and non-fiction, Sheila Roberts is a frequent USA Today and Publishers Weekly bestseller - and a fan favorite. Her books have sold over three million copies and have been turned into movies for the Hallmark, Lifetime and Great American Family channels. Before settling into her writing career, Sheila owned a singing telegram company and played in band. When she's not traveling, Sheila can be found hanging out with friends, playing tennis, and, of course, writing and reading. Sometimes she even remembers to post books she's read!
Christmas in Icicle Falls by Sheila Roberts Last book in the Icicle Falls series. Contemporary holiday romance. Can be read as a stand-alone. Alternating 3rd person POV for multiple residents in the small town. Muriel released her new book, A Guide to Happy Holidays but the tree she ordered was not as seen on TV. She made the most of the situation and added additional decorations and used it as a learning moment. Sierra was inspired by the ugly tree episode and tries to cheer up her grouchy neighbor. Olivia Claussen learns more about her new daughter-in-law.
Each woman has life hurdles to overcome. The more they learn in each instance, the more compassion they have, they more they let people into their lives. It’s emotional with a heavy holiday feeling and a bit of feeling a Scrooge enlightenment.
🎧 I alternated between a paperback copy and the audiobook. Because of the number of different ongoing stories, this was actuality easier to follow in the paperback. The narrator did a fair job with a number of different voices but a couple were too close that I thought characters may have crossed stories. Checking the print, I was able to track better. The narration was done by Amy McFadden and she does have a good range of character voices that I enjoyed. I listened to this at 1.4 which is a smidge faster than my preferred but that was needed for conversational comfort.
CHRISTMAS IN ICICLE FALLS by Sheila Roberts is the eleventh book in the Life in Icicle Falls series and it also happens to be the last one. Even though I'm sad that it is ending I have loved this series and the wonderful characters in Icicle Falls. I craved chocolate the whole time I was reading this book! CHRISTMAS IN ICICLE FALLS is a sweet read that I devoured in just two days. Sheila has a way of just pulling you into the story and getting you all involved in everyone's business. I love how romance was found along the way with their troubles but it did not overpower the story. I hope you will be like I was, cheering for these heart warming characters as you keep flipping the pages until you reach the very last one.
Sienna Moreno and her son Leo have just relocated to Icicle Falls to start over. Leo has special needs and Sienna needed to get away from her deadbeat ex-husband. CHRISTMAS IN ICICLE FALLS is filled with love and community and everyone in Icicle Falls reaches out to Sienna and Leo. Sienna loves everything about this quaint little German town, except for her next door neighbor Bob Cratchett. Mr. Cratchett is a grumpy old man who complains about everyone and everything and is always yelling at Sienna or about Leo or their dog, which they don't have.
Olivia Claussen owns a bed and breakfast in Icicle Falls. She finally has all of her family back under her roof. Her son Brandon has returned home with his new bride Meadow. Meadow is a bit rough around the edges with her attitude and language, and Olivia is having a hard time getting past the tattoos and piercings and warming up to her. Once Olivia learns why Meadow is the way she is, she tries to embrace her and make her feel welcome. CHRISTMAS IN ICICLE FALLS had me reaching for the tissues over and over again.
CHRISTMAS IN ICICLE FALLS is filled to the brim with family, new beginnings, love, and hope. It is a wonderful Christmas story. There are a lot of wishes and prayers fulfilled this Christmas season at CHRISTMAS IN ICICLE FALLS. This is such a charming place any time of the year, but especially at Christmas. Sheila Roberts brings this picturesque Bavarian town to life with her description of the countryside as well as the quaint shops in town. Her characters are genuine, sincere and original, if not a little eccentric. There are several subplots woven throughout the storyline that lend depth to the novel. You'll fall in love with both the town and the characters. Put this one on your reading list for good Christmas-themed novels this year. Sit back with some hot chocolate brimming with whipped cream and another wonderful story from Sheila Roberts! This tale should become a delightful Christmas movie very soon!
Christmas in Icicle Falls is actually the first book I’ve read by Sheila Roberts. So trust me to choose the eleventh and final book in the Life in Icicle Falls series. However, despite arriving in Icicle Falls somewhat late, I’m pleased to say this was a fun and festive feel-good read, set in a friendly close-knit community with one grumpy neighbour.
This book has a good mix of characters. I loved how each chapter began with a snippet of Muriel’s pearls of wisdom, advising on how to be happy during the holidays. A couple of them made me giggle.
I may have only spent a short time in Icicle Falls, but it seems like a wonderful place and community to be a part of.
There is also an added bonus of food recipes from this series at the end of the book, so great for any food lovers out there too.
I did buy three other books by Sheila Roberts in paperback last year. All Christmassy ones , so I’m really looking forward to reading The Snow Globe, Nine Lives of Christmas and On Strike for Christmas at some point.
Such a delightful Christmas story! I loved the idea of the ugly Christmas tree in each character's lives and how they strive to see the good in him/her. Sweet story anyone would love to read!
I am sad that this is the last book in this series and I will no longer be able to visit Icicle Falls. Once again the author takes us to the magical town of Icicle Falls to catch up with our friends we have all come to love. This time we get to follow along with Muriel as she struggles with jealousy. Since she is the one who has written the self help books that all the ladies enjoy reading it was hard to imagine her struggling with this issue but at the same time to see that not all are perfect. I liked the idea behind the ugly tree as we all have an ugly tree in our lives and should figure out a way to make it beautiful. Then we go to me Sienna and her little boy. What a nice woman who just deserves to be happy. If was fun watching her become a part of the town and the way she handled Mr. Cratchett and how he changed because of it. We also watched as Olivia tried to welcome a new daughter in law that she was not too happy about. I like Olivia and would have felt the same as she did about her daughter in law. What a character she was but in the end I really liked her and felt bad for her. I have loved this author's writing style are her books just flow and the story jumps off the pages. It is a can't put down book for me. This has been one of my favorite series and a go to author for me, luckily she will be giving us a new series next year. I am looking forward to seeing what she has in store for us readers.
Lighthearted humor and swiftly changing emotions shook things up in Sheila Roberts’ Christmas in Icicle Falls, where no one in town was immune to the unexpected–or to the ever abundant holiday cheer.
I must admit that reading this year’s Christmas book by Sheila Roberts is bittersweet. It was an absolutely lovely story as always, however, it’s the final book in the Life in Icicle Falls series. *sniffle* But she sent us fans off in the best way possible with a few loose ends getting wrapped up nicely and of course giving us that wonderful sense of community and family I’ve come to expect. This particular story showed us the different types of families that exists in Icicle Falls, with people making the most of what they had in their lives during the holidays and sharing that love with those around them. This was a really cute book. It wasn’t the best writing but for a fun and light Christmas read, I thought it was good. I liked that the book was totally centered on a romance but instead had a few story lines between people within the community and the idea of being kind to all, even those who aren’t kind to you. Definitely a feel-good holiday read.
Christmas in Icicle Falls is the first Sheila Roberts book I’ve read. It’s the last in the Icicle Falls series, which is just one of many series penned by the author, so I’m not sure how I’ve missed reading her novels so far. But it’s a very enjoyable standalone book, so a good introduction to the author’s characters, style and stories. Plus it’s a Christmas story, perfect for the season. It involves an ugly artificial tree, made beautiful with wise decoration. And it involves very real, messed-up human lives, made equally beautiful.
Single mom Sienna Moreno just wants a safe environment for her developmentally challenged son. Local author Muriel Sterling wants lots of people to find Christmas joy in her book. Friend Arthur wants Muriel to go on vacation with him. And the grouchy old man just wants… to be a grouch perhaps.
As the story continues, backstories add just enough depth to each character, creating believable quirks and compelling explanations, decorating human imperfection with touches of delight, and leading to happy conclusions. Simple acts of kindness add up. Simple misunderstandings retreat. And messed-up relationships give way to trust. It’s a sweet novel, with just enough tart for laughter, heartache and hope. It stands alone easily if, like me, you've not read the rest of the series, and it ends with sweet recipes too.
Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
What a wonderful holiday story this is. Three friends ...not looking for anyone special....but ..... Muriel has had two wonderful marriages and is now best friends with Arnie. He invites her to go on a cruise but she refuses... Sienna is a single mother with a special needs son and feels she doesn't need anyone else in her life. Just her and her son. Then Tim comes along.... Olivia is very happy running her lodge with James her new husband and her son Eric and his wife Brooke. Then Brandon comes home to stay with his new wife Meadow. Olivia just cannot warm up to Meadow and she is the last person she would have picked for her son. Welcome back to Icicle Falls and read how each of these women find peace and happiness. I loved this book and was sad for it to end.
What a wonderful story! I turned the final page with a huge smile, though feeling bittersweet because this is the last book of this series. I will truly miss the characters and visiting them again and again as their lives grow and change. One of the themes of this story is that with enough love, patience and care, even the grumpiest of people (or ugliest of trees) can be beautiful. Find out a person's story before judging. You may just be surprised...and humbled. Once again, the recipes included sound amazing and my mouth watered as I read, lol. Christmas in Icicle Falls was a story that truly filled my heart as I read. I love this author's style of writing and her enormous talent for weaving a story that could be about your own friends or acquaintances. Thus is a definite must read!!!!
I've taken many trips to the fantasy town of Icicle Falls over the past several years and this last trip was not a disappointment in the least! As sad as I am to see it end this was a great conclusion. I met new friends and visited old friends while on this last visit. Muriel Sterling is a long time resident and celebrity in that she has written and had several books published. Her newest, A Guide to Happy Holidays, is her best work yet. She's on top of the world until she opens her newly delivered fake Christmas tree. It's a pitiful sight and terribly distressing to Muriel. She is having guests in a few days and her Ugly Tree will be the talk of the town, after all she takes great pride in her holiday decorating skills. Sienna Moreno and her young son are new residents in Icicle Falls. She wanted a fresh start in a new location and she does have a cousin living here. Her fly in the ointment is her crotchety next door neighbor. Olivia Claussen is also an old time friend with a new daughter-in-law. Why did her son ever marry this uncouth, obnoxious woman? She wonders how in the world she will ever make it through the Christmas season. Seems like several residents need an attitude adjustment and the "Ugly Tree Project" sounds like just the ticket to do that. I'm never disappointed in anything I read by Sheila Roberts. She takes me to a happy place full of fun, laughter and some very good life lessons when I'm holding one of her books in my hand. This book will get you in the spirit of the season and take you on a final trip to Icicle Falls. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author/publisher and was not required to write a review positive or otherwise.
It's great to be back in Icicle Falls for one last time! The towns beloved Muriel Sterling - Whittman has written another book to help people get through the holidays. Holidays always have people bustling around and getting ready and trying to be their best. Muriel herself tries to get herself that new tree only to find out when it arrives that it is an "ugly tree". She doesn't replace it but works to make ut a beautiful tree. Muriel finds out she needs to work on herself regarding her desr friend Arnie. She misses out on a trip with him that her good friend Dot takes instead. A bit of the green eyed monster appears. Can she reign it in and find her happiness? You have to love Muriel!
It's great to meet Sienna Moreno and her lovely challenged boy Leo. Not being lucky in love she's afraid to meet her Mr. Right. Her "ugly tree" is her neighbor. He really seems like a scrooge, but is he really? No one realky knows what he has been through. She will find it difficult at first to understand him. Will he show his true side? Sienna finds a man she thinks she could fall for, but is he the right one? Can she open her heart to this man?
You can't be in Icicle Falls and not stop in at the lodge and see Olivia, James and family. There is a new family member Meadow. A new daughter in law who is a diamond in the rough. Could she be Olivia's "ugly tree"? Olivia has to learn what Meadow has been through and find a way to make her family for her son. We all know a Mom will do anything for her family
I always love my trips to Icicle Falls and Sheila Roberts hasn't disappointed me. I am sad that this is our last trip to visit everyone in this little town. They will be missed!
A delightful and heartwarming Christmas story that will make you laugh and cry. I just love the residents of Icicle Falls. They draw me into the story like I am right there with them. Muriel Sterling's UGLY TREE spikes everyone interest. I guess everyone has an UGLY TREE in their lives. An enjoyable and fun read that I hated to see end. Read the story to find out about the UGLY TREE. A MUST READ for the Christmas season!

I have enjoyed returning to Icicle Falls again and again but I am disappointed that this is the last book in the series. There seems to be more stories to tell and an epilogue could have tied up all the loose ends but alas it wasn’t to be. I did enjoy the recipes at the back of the book and may give a couple of them a try.
It was nice to be reunited with many of the characters I’ve come to know but Muriel was not at her best in this story and that was disappointing. She was definitely putting a damper on the holiday season except for the ugly tree scenario she spun that seemed to help others out by putting a more positive spin on their thoughts and actions. I enjoyed that each chapter started out with a quote from her newest book, A Guide to Happy Holidays, and some of them really gave me pause. Sienna and her son were a nice addition to the town and I liked her and her son’s interactions with Tim but also with his daughters which I didn’t expect. The ex-wife left a lot to be desired though and his uncle and Sienna’s neighbor definitely did a one-eighty in his outlook on life. Olivia and her family had their trial and tribulations with Meadow joining their family but I liked that Olivia really tried to get to know her and be there for her.
There was a lot of holiday spirit – both Thanksgiving and Christmas, but also sadness, hurt, frustration, anger, upset, fear, tears, happiness, laughter, family and friends, friendship, kindness and in some cases love. Chocolate and food as always played a major role as did many of the small businesses in town. The story flowed smoothly for the most part but their wasn’t the usual depth to the characters. There were a few happily-ever-afters or potential ones in the offing.
I’ve always enjoyed reading this author’s books. I look forward to reading what she pens next!
Favorite Quote: Leo was in no hurry to settle down, and Sienna understood why. They had enjoyed a Hallmark-movie kind of day, a veritable ice-cream sundae of fun, their two families blending perfectly. The cherry on top had been seeing Leo’s archenemy get a dose of the humiliation he’d been doling out. Ah, yes, a very satisfying day.

Christmas is the perfect time to visit Icicle Falls, and Roberts makes sure to give her readers the traditional sights, sounds, and smells of the holiday as well as visits with many of the Bavarian town’s favorite citizens. This book has the charm and the humor that have characterized the series throughout its five-year run. The “ugly tree” moral is not subtle, but it is credibly applied to the lives of these characters. And readers may find themselves asking if seasonal goodwill applied to their own “ugly trees” might produce changes as welcome as those that occur in Icicle Falls. The recipes at the end might add some extra cheer too. I’m considering the eggnog muffins myself.
Life in Icicle Falls debuted in September 2012 with Better Than Chocolate. Readers who have followed the series will certainly want to include Christmas in Icicle Falls in their 2017 Christmas reading. Readers who love a good Christmas story with a full cast of characters and a message with the merriment can appreciate this story even if they are unfamiliar with the series. Some may find the moral a trifle heavy-handed, but I found the reminder to try a little kindness appropriate for our times as well as the holiday season.
Sad to see the Icicle Falls series come to an end especially since it was in Leavenworth where Icicle Falls is based that I discovered this series and where else but at Pat's Book for all Seasons. Yes, she she really does exist! This brings the characters, shops, and scenery of this Bavarian town with the Cascade Mt backdrop alive in my mind having walked the same streets.
Roberts never disappoints weaving the stories of the residents and their families into the storylines as it changes over the years, my own complaint that it leaves the readers wanting more but knowing this is the end of the road.
Icicle Sheila Roberts’s newest book, CHRISTMAS IN ICICLE FALLS, is another favorite read! We again meet Muriel Sterling, she writes books of encouragement and positive thoughts. Yet, it seems she can’t move forward herself. She finds herself stuck in both her book ideas and in her love life. As Muriel prepares for her annual Christmas tea, she is unprepared to find herself with the ugliest and only tree left in the town. How she turns this ugly tree into a glorious creation becomes the theme of each person’s stories. We meet a new member to the community named, Sienna Moreno. She is a single mom making a fresh start with a special needs son. She uses the inspirational quotes from one of Muriel’s books to help her deal with a difficult older neighbor that unbeknownst to her, becomes her Ugly Tree project. The rewards are more than she ever expected! Then, there is Olivia, she owns the Inn and has everything to be thankful for. She has found love again. Her two sons have moved back (with one, married to the perfect daughter-in-law with a baby on the way) and, are all living under one roof. The only hiccup is that the second son also has recently married. And, she is everything the perfect daughter-in-law isn’t. Can Summer become her Ugly Tree project? Sheila Roberts writes such enjoyable books! Her Icicle Falls series has made us fall in love with a lovely German themed town on the foothills of the Pacific Northwest and its inhabitants. CHRISTMAS IN ICICLE FALLS is the final book in this series. I have thoroughly enjoyed these books and highly recommend them. I will miss visiting Falls but, can’t wait for the next book series to start!
Is there such a thing as an ugly Christmas Tree?? Surely not, especially in Icicle Falls - the delightful mountain community created in the beloved Life in Icicle Falls series by the incomparable Sheila Roberts, inspired by the very real and delightful mountian community of Leavenworth, Washington.
When Muriel Sterling - author of A GUIDE TO HAPPY HOLIDAYS - opened her Internet purchase of a new, artificial tree, she couldn’t believe her eyes. “ ... an insult to Christmas ... “ was her immediate thought!
It was a bittersweet reading for me as I wandered once again through the lives of the wonderful people who have come to life for the devoted readers of this series. In this final visit to Icicle Falls Ms Roberts never disappoints in her characters’ dilemmas, dramas, dialogues, and debacles!
CHRISTMAS IN ICICLE FALLS gives the reader everything you expect to find in a Sheila Roberts romance ... sweet heroines - manly heroes - cute kids - mix in snow, cookies, icy roads, jealous friends, disappointing in-laws, a not-so-secret crush that’s lasted a lifetime, great food, ugly trees, lousy “ex’s”, Santa, and of course some Sweet Dreams chocolates - toss in a tough cop and mix it all together like only Sheila Roberts can ...
As with all of the books in the Icicle Falls series, CHRISTMAS IN ICICLE FALLS can be read and loved as a stand-alone book. But why would anyone want to do that?? Start with this book and then go treat yourself with the rest!
So this is the last book in the Icicle Falls series. I’m sad that it’s ending but can’t wait to see what little Sheila has in store for us next. I’m going to miss this town, but it was wonderful to tie up all the loose ends. Muriel Sterling, Local writer from Icicle falls and the Queen of a chocolate factory has had two loves of her life and widowed both times. Is there room in her life for one last love? Well, Muriel doesn’t think so, but Arnie might just change her mind, unless her friend Dot has anything to do with it. And our new friend Sierra, single mom to a special little 9 year old who needs a lot of attention. How will she ever find a man, especially with mean Mr. Cratchett living next door. Well if Mr. Cratchetts nephew has his way, he might just break through that tough facade and help Sierra find love again., And finally what to do about Meadow. Meadow is Olivia Clausse’s new daughter in law, a bit rough around the edges, but Olivia’s son Brandon loves her so. Can she work with Meadow, and what about Meadows Mom? So when all the ladies have a holiday get together at Muriel’s house, they see how Muriel transformed her sad little fake tree into a beautiful holiday tree. So that’s when they all hatch a plan to fix their own “ugly trees” in there life. Can these women, get past the “ugly trees” in there life and turn them into something wonderful? Well you’re just going to have to read the book,! Excellent book, I give it 5 amazing stars..
As Sheila Roberts takes us to beautiful, heartwarming Icicle Falls, at Christmas time, we happily join her. We see sights, sounds, and tastes of restaurants vividly. We feel the love as Olivia shares her baking secrets with Meadow. We understand not all daughter in laws are created equal. We learn the term "ugly tree" doesn't just mean trees. We contemplate ugly tree projects we have in our personal lives. We happily partake in empanadas, flan, and hope to enjoy the handful of recipes carefully described in the back of the book. I always love getting to visit the characters I've come to relate to from this series. Icicle Falls included the 18 characters, and more, of whom I can bake with, read with, knit with, eat chocolate with, and feel the love with. These folks seem to be my kind of folks/town. They care for people, pets, and strays. They improve their lives as we travel through the book. I enjoyed the development of Bob Cratchett in this story. We saw his gruff exterior, learned the cause, and watched him melt. The "ugly tree", that was Mr. Cratchett, wasn't so ugly in the end. This leads to my enjoying the love relationships between couples who were in their twenties, thirties and in their seventies. I felt the kinship and bonding. I personalized like unto my own relationship with my husband. I also appreciated the way Sienna was patient with Leo, then Tim's daughters were patient and loving with Leo. After there were bullying incidents, no one completely lost their minds-as seems the real world we live in. We see mind loss on the news reports. More people should read the Hallmark channel type books like Sheila write. They might lose their minds less often.
This book is the last in the series and I am both happy and sad. Happy because it
ended on a wonderful note and a new series will begin soon. Sad because I absolutely loved Icicle Falls.
I do NOT give away spoilers so if you looking for that…sorry!
Shelia Roberts out did herself in the final book of Icicle Falls. She brought out the kindness in her characters, love to share abundantly and caring for everyone. Muriel, Arnie, Dot, Sienna, Tim, Leo, Ashley, Amy, Olivia, Brooke, Meadow and so many more wonderful characters to enjoy.
Her characters had many things to conquer in each their own way. They had the task of making an “ugly tree” into something beautiful. The “ugly tree” for everyone was something different. It was a large learning curve for everyone but the story told was magnificent.
I cannot stress enough how good this book was and the best book I have read in a long while. Don’t take my word for it…..read it!!
It's the holiday season ... Thanksgiving to New Years. Muriel is an author and twice widowed. Her friend, Arnie, has made it clear that he's always loved her since they were teenagers but she has always seen him as a friend. When he invites her on a European cruise, she declines and he takes their friend, Dot, instead. Right away Muriel is sorry she said no and is jealous of the relationship that is now developing between Arnie and Dot.
Sienna has recently moved to town and feels it's the right place to raise her son, Leo. She loves the town, her house and her job ... the only thing wrong is that she lives next door to a cranky man who yells at her for everything. Sienna must learn patience.
Olivia and James own an inn. When her son, Brandon, brings home his new bride, Meadow, Olivia can't see what he sees in her trashy new daughter-in-law. She too must learn patience.
I've read many books by this author and like them. It is the eleventh and last in the Icicle Falls series and I've read them all. Though it is part of a series, it works as a stand alone as each book in the series focuses on a specific character or characters and you get enough information about the others to know the background.
It is written in third person perspective, with the focus shifting among the characters and you get to know what they are thinking. These books always end with happy endings so it's great if you are looking for a nice "feel good" story. I like the writing style. As a head's up, there is some mild swearing.
In (sadly) the last of the icicle falls series Sheila Roberts does it again. Take Three of the most different women and mash them together and you get nothing but a roller coaster of a ride. Oliva has to deal with her new daughter in law who she doesn’t start out liking and a daughter who is her everything. Will teaching her the family business bring them closer? Then theres the very well liked and loved city celebrity author Mueriel Sterling- Whitman who is dealing with the loss of her second husband. Along with trying to stay “just friends” with her long time friend Arnie will this be a christmas for them both to remember or will it be like her “ugly tree contest”. Finally theres Sienna single mother of sweet little Leo. With her grumpy neighbor and a child with learning disabilities and a job at the bookstore this single mom has a lot on her plate but when she meet her grinch neighbors nephew a lot changes. This is by far one of my favorite of Sheila's books, sad to see this series end I know with Sheila's works I’m sure she’s got something just as magical in store for all of us soon. This is truly a book you will love and devour.
I loved, loved, loved this story. Christmas in Icicle Falls really gets you thinking about your "ugly tree attitude". This is the last in the series, so it's kind of a bittersweet ending. Sad that it's over but very, very thankful that I read it. If you need a "push" to get into the Christmas spirit, this is the book for you...or if your dealing with a "ugly tree" yourself. Christmas in Icicle Fallls is the last in the Icile Falls series, you can read them as a stand alone, however, im warning you know once you read one, you will read them all. You can NOT go wrong with a book written by Sheila. Christmas in Icicle falls focuses on "the ugly tree" project. Muriel, the town celebrity so to speak. She writes "self help books". Her latest book (A Guide to Happy Holidays) is about getting through the holidays while dealing with people that have (or you yourself have) a "ugly tree attitude". Muriel herself orders a tree online, gets it and its nothing like she thought, she see's potential in the tree, she knows that the tree can be decorated and look good....this is where the "ugly tree" project comes from. At Muriels party her and some friends agree to work on the ugly trees in their circle. Muriel starts to see potential in Arnie, but she's not the only one. Muriel is know having a tough time keeping her ugly tree attitude in check. Olivia's son has brought his new wife home to meet mom (Olivia) well Olivia can not see any reason that Brandon could marry someone like Willow....she's the complete oposite of what Brandon would date. Can Olivia fix up HER ugly tree attitude and move forward with Willow and Brandon? Seinna is a single mom and new to Icicle Falls, she has a cousin who lives here to help her out if needed. She has a 9 year old son who needs alot of attention. Seinnas new neighbor has a real ugly tree attitude towards her and her son.....seriously can this guy be human with this attiude? Seinna has read Muriel's book and is using advice to try and loosen up Mr. Cratchett. Will it work? Seinna meets Cratchetts nephew....oh boy does she like him!!! Can they build a lasting relationship....after all he is Cratchetts family.... This is a MUST READ!!!!! you will love it!!! I did receive this book from the author for my HONEST review. This review is all mine.
I just cannot get enough of cheesy Christmas romance! These books are not earth-shattering and I cannot in good conscience give them higher than a three-star rating, but if I were ranking based on the sheer joy and good cheer I get from them they would give five lighted Christmas trees!
Christmas in Icicle Falls takes us back to a German-centric town in the mountains of Washington. Local author Muriel has written a feel-good, self-help book on how to make your holidays bright by changing your attitude and reaching out to those around you. It inspires an Ugly Christmas Tree Challenge among friends—to reach out to that annoying/challenging/infuriating person in your life to improve your relationship.
We follow Sienna and her young son Leo reach out to their crotchety old-man neighbor, and befriend (and maybe more) his handsome nephew; Olivia struggles to connect with her new daughter-in-law who is the polar opposite of what she always hoped for her son to find in a partner; and Muriel herself is challenged to be happy for her life-long friend Arnie who seems to have finally gotten past his unrequited love for her and moves on to their mutual friend, Dot.
There are toher minor characters as well and these sugary sweet friendships and blossoming relationships are set against the holidays from Thanksgiving to the New Year.
Just adorable, feel good, pure enjoyment. But, I am ready for my next cheesy Christmas romance novel to have a little more heat.
If you want a feel good book this upcoming holiday season that will make your heart melt, this is the one you want to get. There are a bunch of different story lines going on all at the same time in this novel and the author manages to tie them together perfectly by the end.
Even with so much going on, it is easy to keep what is happening straight because the characters are so varied. Each of them has an "Ugly Tree," situation that they must overcome in order to follow the helpful hints in a new book released by one of the members of the community. I loved the way the author used Cratchett as a name in the book and showed that even the most unlikely people can sometimes be redeemed with a bit of generosity.
There are a few different romances developing simultaneously in this novel and other friendships and family relationships building and being tested as well. This is the kind of novel where there is something for everyone. I thought this was a wonderful book and look forward to recommending it to others.
