The Fourth Protector

Rate this book
The 4 protectors have 3 rules:
1. Guard your kingdom
2. Produce an heir
3. No female protectors

These rules have been followed for 2,000 years since the consummation of two protectors resulted in the greatest evil the world has ever seen. Until now. Lena is the first female protector since the original five. Born seconds before her half-brother, Anwar, her father has been able to keep her existence a secret from the other protectors. But due to unforeseen events, Lena must work alongside the other four protectors while hiding her true power and keeping a safe distance from the devilish fire protector.

Ela é a única mulher guardiã.

Lena isn't supposed to be a protector. She was born minutes before her half-brother Anwar, who was meant to be the first born and inherit the power to control water, and this means that she's spent her whole life pretending not to have powers and to help Anwar pretend he does have powers. This wouldn't be a big problem, except that the four protectors have been called together. Lena joins Anwar as his bodyguard, and she has to deal with constant harassment from the mostly-male group of protectors and guardians. Jay, the fire protector, is especially annoying - both because he's very strong and because he can heat up her desire. When Anwar is attacked, Lena leads the other protectors on a journey to find a flower that will save him. But can she keep her secrets?

Although some of the world-building is a little weak and some of the plot points a bit convenient, this was a solid fantasy with some interesting elements. I really liked the premise, and Lena's chemistry with Jay is fiery and fun. By the end I forgot exactly why all the protectors were called together, and I feel like the story should have eventually gotten back around to that. With some editing, this story could be really solid - all the elements (har har) are there.

True rating 3.5/5
Loved the story loved the cast and the relationship between the main cast. As for why the book wasnt a 5/5 , well there are inconsistencies, and random moments a plenty that just seem like they are thrown to further the plot. The love for the characters over powers this by the time you reach half way through though so i still recommend.

The book also had a masterful ending that just reorganized my reading list to read the next installment asap.

I didn’t finish this book . I couldn’t . And I really HATE quitting any book half-way . Let me tell you why :
This story was so badly written . It contains paradoxical characters ( Jay is both mocking and “warm” , Lena both hated him and was charmed by him , Lena is the said-to-be girl who is strong as a warrior , knocked 2 junior protectors in less than 10 seconds and never practiced more than twice a day (?) , and so so much more ) . I hate the characters , especially Jay : over-confident, mocking , flirtatious , and he’s the main male character . Damn it. It focused too much on the training period : nearly nothing about the junior protectors’ past , their backgrounds ,or the made-up world ( like how the hell can anyone be certain if the child who inherits the protector’s supernatural power is always a boy to set up such a stupid rule ? Why only the protectors’ bloodline have power ? What is their origin ? Who the hell is the four kingdoms against ? Where are those kingdoms located ? Why Anwar and Lena - children of a protector - know nothing about the others ? And , oh , let me count : 1,2, no , 3 thousand other questions ) . No , it’s not the training sessions that was written the most . It’s the freaking stupid drama between Jay and Lena . So , here we go again : a perfect , born-to-be-great girl feels attracted to the self-centered , ambitious warrior , bad-but-warm guy against her wish . Oh , such cliché . And that’s not all . The plot is so predictable , and those really tiny plot twists were given away far too soon , too unsuprising , too easy . And then there’s the writing : sometimes it’s freaking hard to tell who’s saying . They keep talking and I’m like : wait , who’s talking to who ? The author gave too little description on ,well , everything . She also had trouble telling the whole story without some nonsense : why noone introduced anything to the trainee about books they had to read ? Just “hey ,we’ve got a HUGE collection of novels and diaries over there . You all must read something ‘cause they are sooooo important “ . And then there’s a whole lot of questions kept popping up during the reading process : Why such a smart girl as Lena - as written - had never thought Jay might have some special feeling for her ? Or why the books they must read were said to be crucial but actually writing bs about flowers ? What have they learned about , well, whatever unmentioned evil guy they’re against? What happened if a power can’t pe passed down to descendants or both the protector and his son be killed ? Why a monster unseen for 2000 years suddenly popped up and noone wonder how it got to the VERY BALL- which , too, is cliché ? . And a ( sorry for cursing , I can’t restrain myself ) fucking thousand questions more. I’ve been writing too many “and” , which means definitely Not Good . I can’t understand why this story has so many readers . Too little information , too much drama . A waste of time .

**3.5** It was a pretty mediocre book with a great idea- though written about countless times based of the elements with a nice twist. Overall I enjoyed the read, and it's by far from a bad novel but felt rushed, amateur and convoluted sometimes. Probably will read book 3- which continues off Lenas pov as well? If you're looking for a quick easy fantasy read this is pretty good- though I felt it relied a little too heavily on the romance aspect as well.

I really enjoyed this book!!! And even the second one!
I am looking to where I can read it again and the new one!! I would pay for this book honestly. It’s a cute and fun read that brings you to a world you would rather live in with hot guys, superpowers and adventure starring a bad ass woman!!!
