We were only eighteen when we married. He wanted to make sure that I was taken care of when he deployed, just in case anything were to happen. Six years later, after half a decade of a love I could never hope for again, I failed to take care of him. I didn't see the warning signs. I made the mistake of believing his words, and I didn't see how far he'd fallen.
When I lost him, I lost my everything. My life had been ripped out from underneath me. I never imagined picking up the pieces. But... sometimes we can't always see what's right in front of our faces. New beginnings. Hope. Possible love. When I met Aiden, my entire world changed.
But could I really give in? After a year of being alone... Was it okay to move on? More than that... Was it okay to break a rule quite that big?
A powerful tale of love, loss and second chances. We check back in on Desi a year after the events of the first book to find that all has not been well. Aiden disappeared after the funeral and he’s been keeping secrets. What does it take to find a once-in-a-lifetime love for the second time? I loved watching Desi and Aiden heal from their loss. And I really liked the opportunity to check back in on Jax and Lizzie. I received a complimentary copy of this book.
I read a free copy of this book, here is my honest review. I liked this book about as much as the first in the series. Desi gets a second chance at love after her husband commits suicide. Aiden falls in love with his best friends widow. The only reason why I did not give 5 stars is because I would have like to know more of what happens to the two.
Growing up military gives me a different perspective that those who did not have. I knew men that had been in WWII and how that event changed them. In this story, I see a man who, even late, realized that he needed to fulfill his promise to a fallen brother.
This was a heart wrenching story of love and loss for a woman who just couldn't let go. However, after a year even her best friend felt enough was enough, but it wasn't until Desiree learned of Elizabeth and Jax having a baby that things really hit home. Then he arrived in town and took her completely by surprise. Aiden had waited a year before he could wait no longer. I say this was a heart wrenching story because of the information that Aiden had held back from Desiree and I couldn't stop crying. You need to read this series of books, and you won't be sorry. I voluntarily read this Advanced Reader Copy from an author truly new to me and I'm glad I took up the challenge in adding her to my collection.
I voluntarily reviewed a complementary copy from the author.
This was another enjoyable read. This is book two in the series. It follows Elizabeth's cousin-in-law, Desiree, a year after her Caleb's suicide. Aiden returns feeling guilty after being absent for a year, especially since he had promised Desiree he would be there for her. We see Elizabeth and Jax again a year on from when they got together, which was great to see how their relationship had progressed.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and voluntarily chose to review. This was a great short romance story between two amazing characters. I cried a lot while reading this book, but it was worth it. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
