WTF just happened here? Seriously, what did I just read? First there's a prologue and I'm like whaaaaaaat? Then there an absolutely beautiful and breathtaking love story and then there's absolutely the worst decision in the history of bad decisions. Vi, baby girl, I can't get behind that! No, no, no!
Okay, rant over, so here we go.
KD Robichaux, if nothing else, you're a mastermind at brutally yanking (tugging would be too mild) on heart strings. Vi is essentially an introvert who discovers rock climbing (indoors only - introvert at work here, people) and eventually meets Corbin a Specialist in the US Army. I usually don't read story laced with military involvement due to my current status as a soldier (I spend more time picking out flaws than enjoying the story), but I was able to overlook any issues I might have had because it actually enjoyed the book. Vi and Corbin don't have a whirlwind romance. Attraction and love are immediate, but they don't rush it, they let it develop over time and that's what this story is about, how their relationship develops. They're perfect for each other, complementing each other in the best ways possible.
I kept expecting some sort of "action," but that isn't what this book is. The synopsis is very vague, so it lends an air of mystery, but I would have liked to know a bit more. Also, I hate the ending (in case you missed that from my initial rant). I totally understood Vi's reasoning, but I'm petty and I still hate it. I hate Corbin's reaction as well. Ten years??? Come on, Corbin. I expect so much more. Also, there were tons of descriptions at Rock On that I could have done without, a little info here and there would have been good, but I didn't need to know exactly how to belay step-by-step in order to understand her love of rock climbing or enjoy the dynamics of the story.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to others. I'll blindly purchase more from this author and I'm looking forward to the next installment. Also, that cover - yes, yes, yes.
