Robert Kirkman is an American comic book writer best known for his work on The Walking Dead, Invincible for Image Comics, as well as Ultimate X-Men and Marvel Zombies for Marvel Comics. He has also collaborated with Image Comics co-founder Todd McFarlane on the series Haunt. He is one of the five partners of Image Comics, and the only one of the five who was not one of the original co-founders of that publisher.

Robert Kirkman's first comic books were self-published under his own Funk-o-Tron label. Along with childhood friend Tony Moore, Kirkman created Battle Pope which was published in late 2001. Battle Pope ran for over 2 years along with other Funk-o-Tron published books such as InkPunks and Double Take.

In July of 2002, Robert's first work for another company began, with a 4-part SuperPatriot series for Image, along with Battle Pope backup story artist Cory Walker. Robert's creator-owned projects followed shortly thereafter, including Tech Jacket, Invincible and Walking Dead.

In case anybody is wondering each issue of TWD gets a 5 star rating from me because i feel its one continuous story.Dont want to give anything away in this one but there is a real cool moment that im not sure casual readers will appreciate as much as us die hard fans.Lastly because of the Image comic anniversary we get another issue in 2 weeks.Cant wait.

Weird reading this on kindle, but it will have to do. I mean 25 cents!!! Pick it up.

This takes place after the whisperer war.... (that's not a spoiler, btw). Like most things in this dead universe, the crap hits the fan on a daily basis. Just when you think you can take a breath, walkers or non-walkers; throw a monkey-wrench in your survival plans.

This was too short. About the length of the comics; but it had good action, as always.

This edition was a lot more exciting than the last, the pacing was a lot better and the tension was built up effectively. Also more effort looks like it was put in to the art this month.

Whispers and the Dead

The whisper ers send an ocean of the dead towards Alexandria in the hopes that the residents will be drowned in the sea of bodies. The sheer volume makes the tactics of the past useless and the inhabitants are forced to improvise or die. But casualties are inevitable.

Nicely written and drawn.

First of all, look at Rick's tiny hand on the cover. Look at it.

This book is intense and the artwork is incredible!

Hordes of zombies are on their way to Alexandria. Will Rick and company survive?

What an exciting issue! As the zombies descend upon Alexandria, I could only wonder who would be lost. There is no way that they can battle that many and not have casualties. I also wondered what role Negan would play, if any at all, since it seems he has been riding the back burner for a while now. Luckily that was not the case with this issue. Unfortunately though it looks like we will have to wait to see how our group fares and whether or not Alexandria will remain standing. This arc kept my attention and I sat on the edge of my seat with each panel. With a few close calls and some definite setbacks, I can't wait for the next installment.

This is a review of the entire series.

Rick Grimes is a strong-willed deputy who missed the end of the world because he was in a coma for a month after getting shot in the line of duty. Shaken, starving and confused, Rick escapes the horror of the abandoned hospital only to be met with something far more terrible. Not only has the world ended, but the dead have learned to walk and to kill without mercy. After learning that his wife and son have fled to Atlanta from a single survivor and his son, Rick goes on a journey to reunite with his family and search for more survivors.

Rick quickly has to come to terms with the fact that the world has ended and only a select few survived. The dead have risen from their graves and they prey on the living. In a world where every minute feels like hours, where there's no such thing as law and order, where finding a small meal is a tremendous task, the walking dead are quite possibly the least threatening thing for the survivors to have on their breaking minds. Humanity is pushed to the brink of destruction, forcing them to embrace their cruel and primal nature in order to survive. Sometimes you have to be more concerned about who you let into your community so they don't kill you in your sleep and steal everything you once cared about. Rick has no choice but to abandon the ways of law and order that he's upheld as an officer for so long in order to protect the few loved ones he has left. He has to become a monster to protect his crew or risk being devoured by those who became more monstrous than him and even the walking dead.

Despite zombies running the world and having the series named after them, what really sets this series apart from the average zombie apocalypse tale is the focus on realism and the daily struggles, flaws and depth of the characters. There's plenty of badass zombie killing action, but the action often takes a back seat to give the characters plenty of times to share their extremely tragic yet endearing stories, grow through mutual suffering and learn to adapt to a world that has left them to die. Even after the world has ended, many people still can't see eye to eye. They turn on each other and kill each other when they should come together. Others form alliances in spite of their differences and try to rebuild over the corpse of everything that was lost. The daily human drama and conflict is more intense than any monster apocalypse could hope to be.

We watch Rick struggle to balance his old moral code with the many necessary evils he has to commit in order to survive and make the world a better place for the ones he holds close. We watch people like Glen, Dale and Maggie attempt to find love in spite of having every reason to be filled with fear, hate and self-loathing. Characters like Michonne have to learn how to forgive themselves and convince themselves they deserve to be loved despite all the blood on their hands. We watch the weak like Carl and Andrea become strong and sometimes the strong become evil like The Governor. Even monsters like the wicked yet oddly lovable Negan are given the chance to find new ways of redeeming themselves by struggling alongside the other survivors that have all been changed by the horrors of the fallen world.

The pacing is extremely slow and I can understand why that may be a turnoff for a lot of people, but I eventually learned to enjoy watching the characters grow, overcome their trauma, find meaning in life and learn to love again. The characters are forced to do many terrible things to survive and it haunts them every waking moment. The ways they overcome these regrets is very realistic, human and hopeful. The slow pacing really gives the feeling that we're living beside these people. The way every tiny detail of their lives and who they are is explored makes them feel very real and believable.

When I first started reading the series, I wasn't expecting it to have such an uplifting ending. It seemed so bleak and nihilistic for a long time and things would go horribly wrong even when they seemed to be going so well, but the finale channels all the pain, suffering and betrayal of the previous volumes and tops it off with a very touching and inspiring finish. This was never a story about hopelessness. It's about learning to appreciate the little things, learning to forgive yourself and learning to move on even when it's hard. When everything seems lost there's always more to be found, even when we believe otherwise because we convince ourselves that we don't deserve to be happy ever again. Instead of dwelling on what was lost, strive to try and make things better than they were before.

I've never been a huge fan of zombie apocalypse stories, but The Walking Dead had enough heart and strong social commentary to make me stick by the characters until the end and I enjoyed every moment of their long trial.

Oh man, I'd hate to be Rick and Dwight and Andrea and Eugene right about now. When you can hear a whole chorus of the dead and they're heading your way, that means you're in deep shit and need to figure out a plan.

That's fucking crazy, man. Eugene just passed out a little while ago, and yet Rick's gonna let him go and try to herd the walkers away from the community. I mean, he's in no condition to do more than rest and get his strength back.

Siddiq had the right idea in my opinion. I feel like half of them should have tried to find a way out, while the other half tried to fend off the zombies, but what do I know. I just feel like having some of their people get out, is better than possibly none.

I like that they have a nice decent group of people, I think 9 maybe, that are going to try and help lead the walkers away from the community. Hopefully the whole thing will go well and that will end up being one less problem.

I really hope that things go well for the riders. I could never do that, if I found myself in a real work version of zombie hell like that. I'd honestly be terrified that they would end up biting or scratching my leg or something else just as bad.

I like that they're optimistic, or at least Dwight is. Hopefully he's gonna stay that way and things won't end up being too bad or dangerous.

Holy crap, look at that large fucking pile of zombies. That's insane. They're likely to wipe out not just Alexandria, but any of the other remaining communities, if given the chance. Which, hopefully they won't get the chance.

I feel like their chances would be a lot better of not attracting more zombies, if they would just stop talking while standing there at the gate. I mean, I know, it's not like they're raising their voices, but if any of the zombies heard them talking, it would cause them to stay and possibly others, too.

Oh man, Negan again. I'm seriously tired of this guy. Why hasn't Rick shot his fucking face off, or Maggie? I mean, the asshole killed Glenn and Abraham, and plenty of others, and yet he just gets to walk around free as if he's paid his due for his crimes? Bullshit!

Glad that that trench that they made seems to be holding up, at least a little. Eugene's right, and Jesus is stating the obvious here. I don't know how I feel about them breaking up into groups of two with that many zombies.

With that many zombies around, I can tell that we're going to somehow end up losing one of those characters on the horses. Possibly even more than one. That's just too many zombies for them not to have any casualties.

Yeah, I know what Michonne's plan is, but I've got to say that I sure as hell don't like it. While she and Jesus are both good at the hacking and slashing with the sword, I'd rather they not face a huge group of walkers along as they try and take them out.

I like the plan of them stabbing the walkers through the gate and in the head. As long as they're quick about it and can get as many as possible that should help. Although that gate doesn't look to stable, and I don't think it's going to stand much longer.

Negan, the colorful way he talks. It always makes me laugh. He's not one of my favorite characters by any means, that ship sailed when he killed Glenn. But I'm not gonna lie, some of the shit he says is hilarious.

Oh no, if the walkers in front are being crushed against the gate by the walkers in the back, that means it's going to have twice the amount of weight against it. Which means that that gate's pretty much guaranteed to come down soon, and all of the people behind the gate and in Alexandria, are in deep crap.

There goes the gate. And Rick should've said something besides get back. He should've told them damn people to run and try to get into the nearest house or houses, lock the doors and bar the windows and try and wait the fucking walkers out.

I think the fire was a good suggestion, but Rick's right and there's the risk of it spreading too quick for them to put it out, and causing the town to burn down. Oh damn, now the walkers are everywhere and it's a good thing Rick told them to run now.

Too bad that lady got eaten, and hopefully Rick or one or some of the others will find the son, Mikey. Huh. Wasn't expecting that. I'd never had thought that Negan would save Rick's life. I'm pretty sure that Negan hates Rick, almost as much as Rick hates him.

That's not good. I forgot who those assholes are in that small community that want Rick and his people to die so that they can take over and take all their stuff. Well, whoever those assholes are, hopefully they'll all die soon and we can be done with them.

Spoilers here. Obviously.

What an utter disappointment the Whisperer War has turned out to be. I was banking on the payoff from last month's issue being big in this issue, but instead we're just getting a repeat of "The No Way" arc.

Not only are we just repeating the "No Way Out" arc, but previews for the next couple of issues give the impression that the next big danger is going to be... the Saviors. Again. This time run by Sherri instead of Negan.

For all the writing problems the TV show has, the one thing it has managed to avoid is becoming incredibly same-y. That's more than can be said for Kirkman's writing over the course of this arc.

At the risk of sounding like every other fan boy on the internet, I think Kirkman either needs to implement a serious shakeup in format, or he should start winding the series down. It's starting to spin its wheels.

This was solid. Let me start by saying, first Walking Dead I've ever read. And I've not seen the show. I know a little of course from social media but I'm not well versed. This is apparently a jumping on point, and it was. Yes, there were some things I didn't fully get, but I got enough to get into the story, and like the people in that short time.
I loved the art, loved that it was greyscale, not sure if they are all like that? But it made it stand out to me and made me pay better attention to the detail.
All that being said, zombies aren't my thing and the whole issue freaked and grossed me out. I don't know that I'll read another. But the issue was great, everything about this is great. It's just not my thing.

I honestly have no clue why I have one issue of TWD in amongst my collection.

Lots of zombies attack a town. My first thought, since they were all gathered together, was why don’t they just lob burning oil at them. Nobody thought of that, so it kinda pissed me off. I mean, I’ve never watched the show, can’t the zombies burn? Or is it an issue with airborne particles from the burning bodies? Anyhow it pissed me off. I’ve no desired to read more or previous issues, certainly not 162 of them.

Apparently this issue celebrates 25 years of Image. Maybe that’s how I ended up with it.

This is the first TWD comic I've read and I can't find something other than good about it! I was impressed with the suspense in the build and the stakes being well established and how seemlessly executed in so few pages it all was.

Also, I especially love the personable approach with the 'Letter Hacks' excerpts in the end--brilliant! And the bonus Extremity #1 teaser got my attention too 👏🏼

One of the strongest issues and the strongest conflicts with the Whisperers - facing a huge flock of walking dead's that is going to attack the all .
that issue in which you hear the sound of gasping and breathing of the belligerents
Union is strength
